Beautious day here. Temp in the 60s, with blue sky. Hey, it's actually spring!
It's stil gray here but not hot and much brighter and lighter than it's been the past two days.
Dave Robertson is now THE EIGHTH INNING GUY™!!!!
Wow...Dave Robertson responds to a questions about his new role as THE EIGHTH INNING GUY™!!!!, calmly stating that the role doesn't matter all that much.
Ice water veins.
[4] hahahah!
Garcia has replaced Mitre on my despise-o-matic.
Good work Mr. Slop. Need a longer outing from you today.
Of course, more innings like that and I'll start changing my tune.
Rats!
Damn.
Ack. Jeter just doesn't have those extra few feet these days.
[6] Why don't you like him?
Well struck, Curtis.
If Curtis did that consistently he'd be unstoppable.
Yes, Paul! Exactly! "If you can show them you can hit that pitch, that's when you'll hit homeruns, because they have to come in..."
[14] Yeah, we might actually have a .300 hitter on this team!
Ohh, Alex.
[12] Because he's a slop throwing retread who did little to justify making the team except being a veteran. A few of his starts (against cruddy teams) have helped mask his 1.4 WHIP; otherwise I think he's shot. And yet he will live on, because of injuries and the Yankees fascination with veterans (and seeming inability to develop their own young pitchers), blocking more interesting pitching options. I'd much rather see Noesi (for example, start. He has replaced Mitre as standing for what I sometimes dislike about this organization's strategic tendencies.
This ump has a huge strike zone.
[19] He did on that pitch anyway!
[18] I can understand that.
[20] He looked pretty generous on the outside corner in Alex' ab, too.
Does Kay consciously choose to say that every fly ball is "driven" to the OF? Or is it a reflex? I wonder if his boothmates cringe.
Sigh.
CB Buckner has a great punch out. Too bad we had to see it there. Shite!
[23] Maybe he gets some kind of kickback from Jeep.
Lots of well struck balls and men on base, yet nada to show for it. You just can't predict that...
Man, he does call that high strike.
Hm. My MLB.tv is showing only a blank, green screen. This is not good.
E6
Remember when Alex dropped that pop-up and Derek just glared daggers at him?
Must have been his first season here?
Game is back...what did I miss?
[32] Cabrera hit a one hop smash to Jeter that took an unusually high hop that ate him up. It was ruled a hit for OC's 2,000th.
Nice ab, Nick.
Jorgie!
That was a lovely swing.
sigh
It's funny how relieved I am to see Posada doing well.
"A piece of her skull flew off, she sneezed so hard."
Ok, Kay, that was clever.
Russell Has been a great pickup so far, no doubt. BUt I've got a bad feeling that after that super hot start he's settling into his form of the last few seasons.
[38] I know, me too.
Good work, Fab Five.
[42] I told ya' he's awesome!!
; )
Heehee!
I like him precisely because he's a slop-thrower. That's my type.
Man, that was closer than I thought!
Nice hit, Brett!
Fantastic. Now don't get picked off!
Fucking hell!
He was CS twice????
"Great baserunners are going to get thrown out," said Girardi?
Jesus Christ.
What a disgrace.
Damn it!
YOu're right, mp, that used to be a homerun.
Driven Deep, MP. Kay definitely needs a thesaurus. Or a permanent vacation.
Sooner or later, one of these will drop or make it over the fence, Jeter.
Nice work, Curtis.
Foul ball, Kay, chill the fuck OUT!
Ok, that's about 8 deeps in 2 minutes. Shoot me.
It's foul by twenty feet!
DRIVEN!!
Grounder to first ≠ driven
Alright, yard work's done, dogs been bathed, now to watch a Yankees win.
[58] :)
I thought that ball was going under Swisher's glove.
I really anticipated that.
Good work, Fredman!
I love Freddy Garcia!!
[62] *cracking up*
Sometimes I don't understand Alex.
If he'd swung like that his last ab, it might have been a run.
Damn it, that was smoked.
Kay: "That is scalded to CF..."
OK, that's an improvement.
Same hop!
Weird!
Cue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8vINCq_IAI
YAAAYYYYYY!!
Nice, Jorgie!
Ok, come on motherfuckers, don't fold now...
COCKSUCKING FUCKING FUCK!
Sigh.
Cue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ytCEuuW2_A
[72] *laughing*
Fab Five Freddie!
PLease stop talking about the NBA. [Meanwhile, in the background, a taught 1-0 baseball game is on...]
[75] Or even a taut game.
The obvious answer is: THE EIGHTH INNING GUY!!!!
Stupid fans.
*laughing*
That was funny, that little hitch!
He suddenly thought he was going to get hit in the face with the ball, I think, he flinched.
[75] After all, it is the finals. If they continue, then I would agree.
Now, the score truck needs to do some work this Sunday.
Choo scroos it up.
[75] After all, it is the finals. If they continue, then I would agree.
Now, the score truck needs to do some work this Sunday.
Choo scroos it up.
You know, for all the talk of Shoo's arm, he's made one good throw to 2B and a bunch of really crappy, wild throws.
[75] Baseball is never taught when Kay is at the microphone
=)
Oooh, the double post. How does that happen?
Oooh, the double post. How does that happen?
[81] I don't give a fuck if it is the finals. If I cared about the NBA I wouldn't be watching a MLB game...I'd tune into to some other channel.
Again, it's magic!
Yay, Derek!
2992!!!
Run Gritner Run!
Fisted!
[84][85] Now you cut that out!
Driven!!!
[86] Your opinion is heard and understood. Sorry for bringing it up.
Ok, here we go...
God, Jesus, that was horrific.
Ferfuck's sake!
[93] No need to apologize, even if facetiously. We can agree to disagree.
Score truck has left the garage! Come on Arod...
C'mon Alex ... DRIVE one!
Ok, now for the love of God, Alex, PLEASE shorten your stroke...please...
YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Score Truck!
DRILLED!
Kearns, turned, burned!
Drilled >Scalded>Driven
Bravo, Alex!! Bravo!
[93] More seriously, I think in general MLB should discourage announcers (yes, I know, they are team employees not league employees) from talking about the other major sports. My sense is that the NBA and especially NFL do a much better job presenting their sport as the only game in town. I never hear NFL announcers talking about MLB even when it's playoff time for baseball.
Wow, Alex's hit broke the space-time continuum ...
This is beautiful. : )
Ahhhhhh, that's my boy, Robbie!!!
There's that prodigious stroke!!!!
LASHED!
SLASHED!!
[104] Well played.
Man, that was a goofy hit.
DRIBBLED!!!
I was just going to say the same thing, Kenny.
Seeing eye single? Or bad Indians' defense?
Ooooh, LOFTED!
Good work, Jorgie!
Small Ball!
[115] Kind of a bit of both.
[115] The latter. Tesh makes that play.
[119] Yeah, that too.
Do the Indians OFers know how to throw the ball actually to the base?
[122] I know, right? That was ten feet up the line!
Well, at least Martin can't make another 2 outs with one swing this time ...
[124] Well, not for lack of trying ... yeesh.
At least Cervelli's suck is set to random ...
The big inning should have gotten Jeter an extra AB. Now let's hope for some gravy!
[106] It's different with the length and pace of baseball. Even the great Vin Scully will mention the other sports.
And during WS time, football announcers will comment on the games and players, albeit briefly.
That's a fucking strike, blue!
You can tell the Martin is in pain. He's a tough mofo, but when throwing and hitting, he's grimacing.
Nice catch by Gardner!
Alright ... I'll give him a DRIVEN on that one.
DRIVEN!!
And the circle closes.
Is playing LF in post-1988 Yankee Stadium really all that hard, relatively speaking?
FAT FREDDY!
I LIKE Fat Freddy Fifth Flinger.
Skyed. MK's got one eye on the Banter.
Damn, that was a nasty pitch.
Definitely not gravy.
[132] Well, you always hear about the sun being brutal out there, now?
RIPPED!
Sweet Sweet Curtis.
I do love Curtis' wrists.
His stroke is so good he really should be a .300 hitter.
Meaning, his wrists are so fast, he should have awesome plate coverage, able to spray the ball around at will.
[138] I wonder how it compares to the old stadium in that regard, given the building's slightly different orientation, as well as architectural differences.
SERVED!
Bravo, Freddie boy!
FAT FREDDY!!!
[143] Right, that's the question.
I can't believe i am writing this, but i would have stuck with fabulous freddy for another batter or two.
Nice work Boone. Lefty walk specialist. Ugh.
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
CONCENTRATE GODDAMMIT.
Ruh roh!
It totally looked like he wanted to turn two.
Pfew!
153) yeah, not the tightest inning all around...but it could have been worse.
This season is setting the record for most audible f-bombs heard at home plate.
Twins' Liriano loses his bid for a perfect game on a 7th inning error by the third baseman.
Uh, maybe Martin's back would feel better with a nice rest on the DL ... FREE JESUS!
(at least for 15 days)
[158] I'm in favor...indeed, I am a believer, if you will. But you and I both know what would happen if Martin went on the DL.
SLAPPED!!!
Slapped by Slappy.
Now, a proper Yankee LCF might have meant an inside-the-parker.
Seven!
Seven!
CHOPPED!!
My dad was telling me about Dee Gordon of the Dodgers the other day. He's Tom Gordon's son. Anyway, the old man was telling me he's never seen someone run so fast.
Hey Captain!
A hit for the Rangers, no no-hitter for Liriano.
If I had an older daughter I would beg Curtis to marry her. lol....
[168] :)
Isn't he great?
Sigh ... back to DRILLED.
You don't DRILL a ball you pull, Kay.
[169] Long time fan. I'm running out of platitudes.
[170] The thesaurus is only so big.
[172] Well I sent mine to Kay back at [50] so I'm flying by the seat of my pants. : )
Why is Cervelli at 3B?
Poking around BBREF a bit, Gardner has been coming on strong:
He had only 6 games with hits out of his first 21 and no more than 2 days with a hit in a row.
Starting April 28th, he hit in 6 straight and 7 of 8.
Since that date, (115 at bats) he's sporting a .330/.418/.443 line with a 17/17 BB/K ratio and that doesn't include his 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a triple this afternoon.
Now, if he could just learn to fucking steal ...
Nice to see Girardi not bury Whelan and nice to see Whelan bounce back.
Nice little win.
Heh..Garner almost caught that on the infield.
A win without Mo taking off his jacket is always nice.
Sweep sweep sweep! I wanna sweep tomorrow!
[180] And three hits for Jeter, please.
Just got in. Pleasant outcome for sure. Hey, has anyone noticed what the Sox have done to Toronto? They are just on cruise control.
[182] Pretty brutal, isn't it?
[182] Everyone looks real good during a long winning streak. This too shall pass.
[182] Also the second hit of Jeter's today was sad. Another grounder! Although Minka seemed okay with it.
