2 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:25 pm

Ok then. 1st two on base. Score a bunch!

3 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:26 pm

This is a good start, now cash in the chips.

4 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:27 pm

Not a double steal. Defensive Confusion. ; )

5 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:30 pm

Love me a good Robbie swing.

6 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:30 pm

Robbie comes through!

7 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:31 pm

Double > Groundball to right side
Groundball to right side > K

Therefore...

Kay: "Andruw [Jones] has not played in a while because the Yankees have played against a slew of RHP."

Translation: "Andruw [Jones] has not played in a while because he has been pretty awful and the Yankees figured out that Gardner can hit LHP."

9 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:37 pm

That was pathetic, Ed. : (

10 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:44 pm

I'd like to see Cano play short fo ra season for my own personal entertainment.

11 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:48 pm

You can't stop Frankie, you can only hope to contain him. And now we have the pitcher bunt him over to second....textbook baseball!

12 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:50 pm

Man, they sure are making Wulfie throw some pitches.

13 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:52 pm

"Driven DEEEEEEP"

14 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:52 pm

You can't waste a Frankie lead off single! They're a rare breed.

15 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:57 pm

KIm Jones: [paraphrase] "Six pitchers, that's what you're going to see if you want to work Phil Hughes back into the rotation..."

Translation: "Phil Hughes is going to the bullpen."

16 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 1:57 pm

This ump sucks.

17 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:00 pm

[15]
FOEIG = Phil
SOEIG = Dave
TOEIG = Rafael
Everybody wins!

18 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:01 pm

[17] Especially he Yankees, who would in fact never lose a game!!

19 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:03 pm

Heavyweight match-up.
C'mon CC!

20 RagingTartabull   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:04 pm

that was beautiful

21 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:04 pm

Frankie is good at strike 3 excitement.

22 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:07 pm

Drilled! # 300!

23 RagingTartabull   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:07 pm

300!

24 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:09 pm

Way to go, Teix.

25 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:13 pm

Yikes... anyone who complains about Girardi's getaway lineups ought to see who Franconia is playing today...

26 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:16 pm

Frankie goes to rbihood!

27 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:26 pm

Brett owes about 8,000 push ups for this home stand.

28 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:36 pm

[26] You can't stop him, you can only hope...etc.

29 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:37 pm

CC is... THE MAN!

30 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:40 pm

The ol' husband and wife play.

31 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:42 pm

The sad thing is that I fully expected Jorge to get thrown out---somehow, somewhere---on that blooper.

32 Start Spreading the News   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:42 pm

Cole hamels was cruising and gets hit by Gonzalez line drive off his right hand. He gets taken out of the game and the next guy promptly gives up two runs.

Now Lester has a lead and can lock this one up.

33 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:44 pm

Nuñez ran out of his batting helmet...that looked just like Pee-Wee League.

34 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:47 pm

Yikes. He had to have been safe.

35 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:48 pm

Not out.

36 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:50 pm

Michael Kay avoided that very obvious fallacy of the predetermined outcome moment.

37 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 2:53 pm

11 k's. Hot damn!

38 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:06 pm

Baker's dozen. Clappity clap clap clap.

39 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:08 pm

Now 13 ks. CC is dealing today.

40 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:10 pm

[38] It's too bad he won't have the chance to close it out. It would be cool to see him top 15 Ks.

Hm. When was the most recent high-K game by a Yankees' pitcher?

41 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:16 pm

[40] My baseball reference skills are bush league. A beer to who answers it. Maybe the booth will say it before game's end.

42 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:18 pm

[41] Cone had 16 Ks in 1997 (according to some or other website I found). I can't remember any Yankee pither more recently with more than 13 Ks, but I'm sure someone has accomplished that.

43 RagingTartabull   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:21 pm

BOOOOOOOOOOO

44 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:22 pm

Oh well.

45 RagingTartabull   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:22 pm

[42] Clemens had 15 vs Seattle in the 2000 ALCS, but thats obviously not regular season

46 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:26 pm

Didn't Guidry have 19 Ks in a game in 1978?

47 Sliced Bread   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:29 pm

Logan got lucky there. Prince was trying to hit it to Delaware.

48 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:30 pm

[46] 18.

49 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:32 pm

Meat tray for the 9th? Mo help us!

50 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:32 pm

Yayyyy!!! They're warming up Mitre already!!!

51 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:33 pm

[48] Thanks.

52 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:34 pm

Toughish throw, but that's gotta be an error on the pitcher. I mean, the throw hit his glove.

53 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:35 pm

I could make a stronger throw to 2nd. Yeesh.

54 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:35 pm

[48] That was the game where the practice of standing and clapping for the third strike of a strike out started ...

Meanwhile, that's an A+ reliever 'stache that Axford is sporting.

55 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:36 pm

They should send Dickerson home on a straight steal. Just for my own amusement.

56 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:38 pm

Holy Crap!

Frankie Brains with a hit!

57 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:38 pm

Cervelli with 2 rbi's today. Take that, MP!

58 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:38 pm

You. Just. Can't. Stop. Him.

59 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:39 pm

When was Frankie's last 3-4 with 2 rbi game?

60 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:40 pm

C'mon, I'm hungry ... hungry for some MEAT TRAY!

61 Marek   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:40 pm

Jesus who?

62 Sliced Bread   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:40 pm

[56] and the Yankeeography production team is deployed!

63 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:42 pm

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Just Ayala.

64 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:42 pm

So, how long after Unlucky™ comes in do we see Mo? I guess on the bright side, maybe Mo can vulture a few extra saves from Mitre's unluck and make a run at the all time record this year.

65 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:43 pm

[64] Whoops...Ayala instead.

66 Just Fair   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:46 pm

That was a damn fine game. CC is good.

67 rbj   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:46 pm

Another W for CC.

68 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:47 pm

Wow. Wunnerful, wunnerful.

69 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:47 pm

And no Mitre. We are all Lucky!

70 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:48 pm

Teix: "...I give ourselves a lot of credit..."

That made me laugh for some reason.

71 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:51 pm

I dunno, I think Mitre is a perfectly cromulent, break-glass-in-case-of-emergency, last-guy-out-of-the-pen who pitches in case of blowouts.

I'd much rather see him on the mound than Buddy Carlyle ...

72 monkeypants   ~  Jun 30, 2011 3:57 pm

[71] That pitcher shouldn't even exist, given the rarity of the situations suitable for his services. If a pitcher is used only in break-glass/last-guy/blowout circumstances, then his spot on the roster should be taken by someone else, like an additional position player.

In addition, given Girardi's apparent love affair with Unlucky™, I stand by my prediction that he will end up starting ten games if he stays on the roster.

73 Sliced Bread   ~  Jun 30, 2011 4:11 pm

CC giving unsolicited praise to Cervelli's game behind the plate. That's worth something.
