Animal! My favorite Muppet.

I agree with the author that the character-based humor is missing since Jim Henson passed. Three puppets singing an Irish ballad isn't funny. The Swedish Chef, Beaker, and Animal singing Danny Boy has me in tears.

Yeah, like the best of the old Warner Brothers cartoons the Muppets were made for kids with a big wink to adults.

This is great! I got the Muppet Show 1st Seson DVD for Jazz Jr, watching him really dig Florence Henderson, Jim Neighbors and Ruth Buzzy musical numbers with the Muppets..too cool.

I remember finding out that Jim Henson had passed away.

I was in college and we had partied all night and were sitting on a stoop in New Paltz, NY in front of a little market. The sun was coming up and it was a beautiful morning. The guy delivering newspapers without a word dropped a bundle and pulled one out and handed it to us. He had this serious face and this slight hint of a grin as if he was trying to hold something back. He left without a word.

We saw the headline announcing Henson's passing and it stopped us in our tracks. I don't think anyone spoke for at least a minute.

Henson was a genius and such a big part of my youth. I remember watching the Muppets with my family and in particular loving the old guys in the balcony. Nothing can live up to the original, but I guess that is almost always the way things are.
