I think David Price will pitch a great game tonight, don’t you? I’m thinking he’s got some payback on his mind.
Here’s the lineup:
Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Russell Martin C
Andruw Jones DH
Eduardo Nunez 3B
Brett Gardner LF
Let’s Go Yank-ees!
I'm not a game show fan, but Price Is Right was the best ever in my opinion. Great concept, and fun to play along with.
I remember watching it as a 14-16 year old on summer mornings with my friends. This is going back about 30 years. We would get together early, like 8am, and play wiffle ball, stickball, or softball for a few hours, then duck into my friend's air conditioned den and watch Price Is Right drinking a pitcher of lemonade or ice tea. I don't think we went inside specifically to watch the show,(or maybe we did) it just always seemed to be on when we were taking a break from the heat. Speaking of which, the prize girls, or whatever the models' official title was, God, they were fantastic to look at.
I'm dating myself, but I remember Bob's earlier gig "Truth or Consequences"

I know that it is de riguer these days to complain about Jeter at the top of the lineup, but is it time to complain about Russell Martin batting in the middle of the order? I fear that my preseason prediction that he would be awful (at the plate) is coming true, after his glorious first few weeks in pinstripes
In good news, Chavez had 4 hits in his rehab start today, though I not sure if he played 3rd or was at DH.
Heh, seems like YES has been visiting the Banter today.
Oh, I also get the SWB-Columbus game tonight.
Grandy is Dandy!
Curtis!
Sweeeeeeet!
Damn, that's two consecutive at bats that Russtache has just missed hitting one out.
This is off topic and I hope you guys don't mind. My 10 year old lab Mickey was diagnosed with cancer this week. He's been watching Yankee games with me on Yes since moving back to NY 7 years ago. He liked to hide in another room whenever my yellling or hat throwing became too much for him to bear. He always knew the difference between happy celebration hollering and WTF yelling, though. He especially liked going back and forth between my legs while I patted him like a drum after big home runs. He knew I was happy and the Yanks were winning. Anyway, sorry again for the personal stuff. But I hope there a few more good moments before summer's end.
Go Yankees!
[11] Damn man, that's terrible, I'm sorry. Give him lots of love and enjoy the time you've got together.
[11] Very sorry to hear. Lost a few dogs over the years. Never easy. Have a couple of guys who are on the downside as well. Should still have a few good years, but I am seriously looking at a pet stroller for one. (Arthritis in the front leg -- which has a steel rod in it.)
I hope Mickey gets to run through your legs at the end of October.
[3] I don't have de riguer. I had de riguer, but penicillan cleared it up. Jeter at lead off is much worse than Martin batting 6th.
Jeter is SEVENTH on the team is RS, 6 behind Gritner.
Jeter has 106 TB, but 20 came in 2 games.
He is hurting the team. SSs in the AL are very poor this year, but Jeter is still near the bottom.
Hmmm, "catchin' some ball", that's a new one by me ...
pastadivingjeter!
sigh.
[16] What you got against Italian food? Goes real nice with a good Chianti -- which I need when watching Jeter field.
11) Hey man, sending all our love right to you, man. That's tough. Hang in there! You da man!
Gotta sign off for the next few days folks. Driving to Philly for a convention (law librarian) for the next few days. Plus meet up with an old college friend. Liver is already protesting.
Sit down, Evan.
19) Be SAFE, son! And enjoy. Have a cheese steak for us.
[14] Martin is batting .188/.297/.279 over his last 200+ ABs, since rocketing out of the gate for his first 60 ABs. Outside of his hot start, it is almost certain that Martin is hurting the team more. In any case, the reality is that both should be hitting at the bottom of the order (though I can see a better case for Jeter batting one or two), and Gardner should not be at the bottom.
Wow. Talk about hitting with shitty luck.
3 times in a row Russtache has smoked the ball, he's got 4 outs to show for it.
Meh.
I don't like having a 2-0 lead.
Who the hell does Price look like? I just can't call it but it's someone, or a combination of someone's who are familiar. It's not Tim Duncan, is it Brad Dougherty? Or Obama? Can't. Call. It.
I gotta root for players from NH....
Fuld is Eckstein on Red Bull.
FAT FREDDY FILTH FLINGER!
Fat Fred, how does he do it?
[26] A homeless man's GGBG?
10 swings and misses in 4 innings for Garcia. That is a boatload.
[26] Yeah, and I really admire his band, the Sam Fuld Five.
Oh, man, just caught up with this thread.
Just Fair, if I were a praying man I would pray for you. But my heart goes out to you and your boy. There is really nothing positive and true to say, so I'll just say that I am deeply sorry.
29) LOL
I think Gritner could play CF from LF.
When the fuck did Casey Kochman become George Brett?
[35] He had an eye problem correct over the winter. (Suzyn reported it -- I was listening to the second inning, driving.)
Oh, unbelievable.
I LOVE CURTIS!
Grandy!!
36) He's got fucking x ray vision now. Always seemed like a good dude. Good for him.
Well, at least Curtis doesn't have a problem tracking booming drives to the wall ...
[11] :( big cyber hug to the little guy.
[25]All three of those guys!
Fab Five Freddy throwing up gooseeggs with 7 hits? I like it!
[41] [25] A little like Magic Johnson?
They really got to win tonight..Boston has Seattle over the weekend so that's a sweep-a-coming..
Thanks for the kind words everyone. Much appreciated.
Damn, Curtis better be back out there in center in the bottom half.
David Pinto says Price is a distinctly worse pitcher with men on base (Here, at Baseball Analytics.) He puts the ball more in the middle of the zone. But doesn't look that way today, does it?
I had a dream last night that Cashman traded Montero, Swisher,Banuelos and Nunez for King Felix..in real life Seattle would hang up immediately on that offer.
Crap.
Great pitch to handcuff Swisher.
The Yanks have to work to make next inning Price's last.
Rob was like, "Baseball is easy."
Man, Robbie makes that over-the-shoulder catch looks as easy as getting out of bed.
Soooooooooooooooo smooth.
Jeez, Robbie. That kid is funny.
[49] Yep! And just imagined how good he would be if had Pedroia's hustle!!
Well done, Freddy. Great to see him and Bartolo still have it.
12 sb's for Nune5. Holy smokes.
Heh-heh. Don't know the little 5 skill. : )
How the fuck was that fair!
Good point by Kenny. Nunie's got to follow that ball and grab it once it is foul.
[54] Correct. Fuck up by Nuney.
Well, at least Nune5 is better than Alex at fielding pop ups ...
Fucking Bollocks!
Oh no.
Chess.
For the record: I am against this move.
Get well soon, Eric ... soon.
Nice of Freddy to tap Nunie there before he walked off. Let's hope another error doesn't hurt them tonight.
And that's why they call him Nuñe5. (Even thought the scorer didn't agree.)
C'mon Boone.
Aha! It's Nuñ-e5 after all.
Nice 2-1 fastball, Boonie!
I'm calling a Evan vs Robertson grand slam right now.
Yeah! So happy to be fucking WRONG
LOGAN!
The Chessmaster!
Boone's slider really looks much better now than early in the season.
Bone! (sic)
[65] Hey, you can call homers against Boone all you want, but next time you say that about D-Rob we're throwing down, Belth.
Are you FUCKING kidding me! Damn, Curtis. Watch out.
Dude's made of steel.
And he waves "don't worry about it" to Price. Pure class.
Boone snagged 9% points of Win Probability for getting that out. Clutch!
Argh. The streak ends.
Teix hasn't been helping much lately.
76) At all.
It's funny, I like Teix, but he gets a huge pass. Guy is just real streaky offensively but he never gets ripped.
[68] His fastball velocity is up again as well, he hit 94 on the strikeout pitch.
[78] Red-ass factor, he always looks like he's giving 110%.
Balls..
D-Rob.
Speaking of Tesh, RAB had an interesting little piece on how his batting stance has changed over the last couple of years.
http://riveraveblues.com/2011/07/mark-teixeiras-balance-at-the-plate-52771/
When you look at 2008 vs 2009 vs 2011, the differences are pretty stark.
Nasty.
D-D-D-D-Rob.
Man, great job so far Robbie.
I'm surprised TB hasn't gone hard after Beltan. They have tons of fodder to trade, and the Mutts would pick up a big piece of salary if they got the right prospects.
Yeah, baby. It's Hammer Time.
[87] I think the Pirates should go after him.
They have prospects galore to deal, and they really, really need a bat, and as you say the usual problem for the Pirates is mitigated by the Mets' checkbook.
[83] They also had a post showing how Teix has only been a shade better then Tino... comparing their first 3 Yankee years. Of course, Tino fell off after that, and Teix has been far better as a non-Yankee... but still, considering the contract, it gave a disappointing slant on Teix.
[88] Alabama Hamma!
[91] Door Slamma!
[89] Besides, it would be beyond awesome for Pirates fans and for baseball in general if the Pirates made a big splash trade like that.
"Heh heh heh... Your move, Girardi! Hahahahaha!"
[89] Don't you mean "the 1st place Pirates?" gasp..
Could be a huge ab for Dickerson here.
Bubkus.
I mean it could be a huge ab for Nunie.
[98] You just like typing "huge ab". It's your way of puffing yourself up.
Some GOOD news via RAB
http://riveraveblues.com/2011/07/injury-updates-nova-soriano-chavez-52788/:
They said, "If only Gritner could but get a whack at that..."
Word to Nuney!
Biscuits and gravy, baby.
Yeah!
Lucky is better than good!
So does Mo throw, or not?
Ah, Kenny answers my question.
Fuck, remember when the Rays ran all day against us?
Let's go Mo.
Uh. I thought Kenny said Ayala started warming when Nuñez knocked in the two insurance runs.
Sit down, Junior.
Fuld folds.
The one step back punch out!
Coney on fire tonight.
"That is called seniority. You are Sam Fuld, this is Mariano Rivera."
Today's funny bloging comments via RAB:
Xstar7 says: Hey, Derek Jeter grounded out.
Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says: Sometimes you CAN predict baseball
Mo vs. Sam Fuld..that is not fair. Why was there such hype on this guy earlier in the year, he can't really hit..?
Keep watching, Reid.
Thanks be to Mo.
Nine pitches. That's a little high, no? Some efficiency.
All praise MO!
All Rise.
Good morning. Good afternoon. Good night.
Curtis is The Fucking Man!
"Mariano" = "Buddha" in Spanish
Cashman looking pretty good on the Grandy trade:
.272 .367 .572,939 - 26 HR, 85 RS (Eighty Five!!!!!!!)
[113] Funny? I thought that was sad.
