What gives with all the Serious Man stills? Don't get me wrong, I dug the movie.
i'm gonna go ahead and assume that 'serious man' is a movie? this photo reminds me of the Power Windows album cover by RUSH. great album, not good album cover...
Last night, I/we were talking about Mauer's value, and I said that so far, Mauer compares to the all-time great Catchers.
Well today, I found something very interesting.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/blog/archives/14231/comment-page-1
At first, I would point out how Posada (121 OPS+) compares to Pudge R. (106 OPS+). Next, compare Po to Munson (116 OPS+).
Now WAR is not a perfect statistic, as Defensive stats are flawed. But this chart seems to indicate that a Catchers D and CS% are very important to their overall value.
I really hate watching aj pitch. Don't think I'll last long.
A horrible 0-2 pitch
[4] I know. I didn't realize it was his turn and the minute I saw his mug I let out an involuntary groan.
Please heal quickly, Freddy
Oh, Jesus Christ.
Guess we can blame this game on the bugs, certainly not AJ
[6] wanna stick a fork in my eye.
Damn it.
Nice throw, Brett.
He's just not good.
Like Farnsworth.
2-0 ALREADY?!?!?!?!?
::facepalm::
Dear God.
Just turned on, 3-0 already? Good thing we all have our Brian Cashman apporved "Objective Caps"™ and can see that AJ IS performing well.
At this point, isn't it best to hope that AJ pitches every game like this? Isn't that the only way he'll ever be the odd man out of the rotation? Though I know that's a forlorn hope ...
Anyone remember the masochistic dental patient in Little Shop of Horrors? I think that we all have to have a similar mindset in order to endure any of AJ's games
[15] I'd feel much better if I was smoking something from a pipe, though I doubt objectivity is what I'd be packing it with ...
"AJ Burnett, if he's right, he can pitch a two-hit shutout."
--Kay
[19] He throws 94!!!!!!!
How 'bout that Russel Martin?
Dear God, will they all please stop making excuses - especially Kay who reams out AJ consistently on his radio show
Of course AJ hasn't allowed a stolen base - either the runner get wild pitched over or he strolls home on the HR
wow. aj really sucks. : /
Man, is there a hit the Twins have had that hasn't been absolutely smoked???
Dear god, will they please stop letting aj pitch. Can't watch this. Later folks.
Objectively speaking, AJ Burnett sucks. Subjectively speaking, M*****F**** don't let him pitch ever again!
That bottom 4 of the Twin's lineup is a murderer's row.
But he does have electric stuff. puke....
Kind of hoping Tolbert ran him over there.
[26] It is tough to take, isn't it?
Larry Rothschild should go out and ask AJ to pitch underhand. I mean at this point it can't hurt, can it?
[25] Nope.
Get him outta there before he gets killed.
O if only that ball had hit him square in the head - RIP, Ben Chapman
(33) no- that's the only reason to keep him in
I should be doing something better than watching this on a Saturday evening. Makes it all the more frustrating.
Tomorrow driving to Lake George leaving at 6 AM, so there is nothing else I could be doing.
Column A: 95 mph lively fastball, world class breaking ball
Column B: Among the most walks given up, the most by far wild pitches, not a clue on how to battle adversity and $80+M long term contract.
No sharp objects allowed ever for Freddy, please.

Christ, what a swipe by Robbie!
Looked out on the replay.
Every day Robbie does this crazy shit.
Every. Single. Day.
He's preternatural out there.
[37] He's also easy to run on.
Has anyone checked AJ's eyes? Maybe he just can't see the strikezone.
I really want Mauer to smoke one here
Well, at least we'll get an appearance from Noesi.
Of course, Noesi should already be warmed and in the game, but of course we can't bruise AJ's fwagile wittle ego ...
I did it again, the dreaded double post. How does this happen?
Somebody pass me the objective pipe, 'cause he still looks shitty to me.
I'd suggest AJ wear a garter like Nuke LaLoosh did in Bull Durham, but given AJ's problems, I'd have to suggest he wear a fucking dress and pumps to the mound ...
I am surprised Mauer took that.
No warming in the pen??!?!
I'm going to split for awhile and check in later, this is unwatchable.
Watching this on Gameday is the way to go. AJ's pitch scatter is hilarious. I should use his pitch location as a random number generator.
Ohhh, come ON!!
60 pitches in < 2 innings? Maybe Joe is hoping AJ throws his arm off here?
GET HIM OUT OF THE FUCKING GAME GODDAMMIT.
That's all, folks.
Fuck you, AJ.
aj is beyond awful.
Did he just bark at Girardi?
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
and of course the shit sox are already winning.
goodbye 1st place...
"That's fucking bullshit". He really had the balls to say that to Girardi. I think that's a fireable offense right there.
[58] Is that what you saw, really?
Oh my god.
Now I'm just laughing, this is too much.
1 2/3, 61 pitches!!
I really hope AJ breaks his hand and/or arm trying to break something in the clubhouse
dear aj,
please pull a kevin brown in the clubhouse.
we'll all thank you!
Twins announcers saying "how can he be upset with the manager, he only retired 4 batters in 60 pitches!"
Hope AJ gets fined for that, total bullshit barking at Joe G there. Blyleven is killing him, said he "doesn't compete".
Is AJ Burnett any better than Kei Igawa at this point?
well, two things here....A: the yankees are winning the game here unless morneau takes ayala deep, and B: i'm sold, burnett is pretty awful. at least he's not zito bad...or is he?........uggghhh.
Bench this bum. He's a misfit.
AJ has the nerve to complain to Girardi? I think he needs to go on the DL for mental issues, and work out his problems in S/WB and get some talk therapy.
Wish AJ would pull an Irabu at this point
I've had enough of this guy.
That's enough.
[58] holy crap, he said that?! wow. fuck aj straight to hell.
[61] great minds! ; )
[68] ooh. that's a bit too far...
deflating.
If I beat AJ to death with the objective pipe, would any jury in New York State convict me???
[70] Heh. And this is what I posted over on BBTF:
=)
Damn it. One step short.
Hi team!
I love watching the Yankees, don't you?
Usually I prefer to be alone during this type of game, but I just had to check in.
On a positive note, at least of all AJ's runners scored.
[76] Misery loves company!
[74] more great minds!
can you get alaskan amber ale in la? how 'bout nimbus red ale from tucson?
[76] welcome to creedmoor!
[79] Pretty common, at least in bottles. Not sure about the nimbus.
Burnett is Cashman's mistake, when will he own up to it?
[78] Yeah, that's what they say. Not me, generally speaking.
But, I'm not miserable, for some reason. The whole thing just seems humorous.
[83] It is that. It's also infuriating.
[81] nice. on tap, it's the best brew out there. wish i could get it in the parts; alas...
[83] i hear ya. life is waaaay too good to be miserable about this game. once i finish dinner, i'm headed to the studio. after that, it's good ales! : )
[85] Cheers to that!
[85] [86] Clink!
I just finished a porterhouse steak, three glasses of a Merlot way out of my price range, and local corn and tomatoes. Now, how am I going to let that fucker ruin the evening? Not happening.
I adore Curtis but it's really hard for me to believe he's the best player in the American League.
cash 'em in, Tex! i know rbi is overrated stat and a team stat at that. but this nugget from lohud, is still pretty cool:
Mark Teixeira is the 27th active player to reach 1,000 RBI, and the fifth current Yankee (Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Andruw Jones and Jorge Posada). Teixeira is only the sixth player all time to collect at least 1,000 RBI within his first nine Major League seasons. You’ve heard of the other five: Joe DiMaggio, Hank Greenberg, Ted Williams, Al Simmons and Albert Pujols.
maybe AJ will clear out his locker and retire...
[89] Strange that Aaron and Mays wouldn't be on that list.
my boy Kinsler (and our fellow tribesman RI), just hit his 2nd homer of the game. he's now 20-20! 5th member this season (it should double by the end of the year) and his 3rd time in 6 seasons. pretty coolio!
[92] Yeah, I like Kinsler.
This is the decade of the 2Bman.
My wife couldn't handle being home without a dog. She snuck off to the shelter yesterday and met Yeller. 4-6 year old lab/hound mix. I was pissed but I didn't have a chance. Brought him home today and he escaped the yard in a matter of minutes. Chased hime down after a 5 minute chase. He then managed to leap straight from the floor onto the kitchen table during dinner. All 4 paws mind you. Mo help me! ; ) I think it's time for that beer.
Yes, it's because Don Mattingly was the real thing.
[94] Damn, that's wacky! Sounds like a keystone cop scenario.
[94] Have two beers.
[96] It does!
Your wife isn't named 'Lucy', is she?
[97] i think i will, thanks.
[99] No, not you!
Oh well. Sure, go ahead. No skin of my back.
[100] : )
actually, i don't deserve a beer (or 3) until i get my booty to the studio and practice. got marimba work done before, gonna head to the drumkit in just a bit.
then, and only then, will i imbibe the suds!
[101] Admirable. You have the will power of a...
I dunno. Elephant? Macabee? Stoic?
[102] big, giant dork/geek/nerd?
though i'll settle for very serious musician.
2 beers. I can do that.
I am remotely familiar with the Keystone Cops. Lucy? Not so much.
Oh boy, Aaron Laffey!
Mattpat's night just got better!
I came to this debacle late.
Have they announced that AJ needs surgery and will out for the remainder of the season?
"You have the will power of a very serious musician."
No, it doesn't work. It has to be something snappier. How about,
"Sir, you have the will power of a flautist!"
No, that's no good.
[104] Oh, you know. Lucy. And you would be Ricky.
[106] we're hoping he's either gonna pull a kevin brown or carlos zambrano...
[107] how 'bout:
...hibernating yeti monster?
Always causing trouble, that Lucy.
[105] at least laffey is a lifelong yankees fan!
laffey in a laugher...
[91] Mays came up in late May his first season and got off to sucha slow start (0 for 25 or 26 IIRC?) and then missed half the second season because of military service, so I'm not surprised he's not on the list.
Aaron I don't get either.
No one else has said it, so I will - if the Yanks send Hughes to bullpen instead of AJ, I think Cashman should be fired. It certainly does not give the Yanks the best chance to win now, or in the future.
rockies were up for awhile. then, dodgers tied 'em up for awhile.
LA scores 2 in the 12th. helton, who homered earlier, is up with 1 out, runners on the corner. he works a FIFTEEN pitch at-bat, which ended in a run scoring double.
6-5 LA, runners on 2nd/3rd, 1 out. ground out ties it at 6...
[108] Ah ha. LUCY, You have some splainin' to do.
[110] You hire a lyricist, right? I mean, you don't try to write your own, do you? You should hire someone.
Who the hell does Hector Noesi have to blow on this team to get treated with a little respect. He's the damn long man, why isn't he in this damn game???
This just in ... Aaron Laffey sucks.
Whodathunkit???
I keep wanting to call him "Arnold". Arnold Laffey. I don't know why. Maybe he just looks like an Arnold.
The current radio conversation about what to do about AJ is ridiculous. Kay: "They've won games that he's pitched, just not because of him."
Oh, man. Wakefield left with the lead, but Matt Albers just coughed it up. Poor Wakey. He can't get a break. No W200 for you.
[116] i actually am a lyricist. damn you! my music is mostly instrumental, however. that said, my line in [110] has 'inside' funny meaning to me. might make more sense when i reveal myself here...
soon.
holy christ, royales tied it up! hope they take the lead and win...
Wha the deuce. That was terrible. TERRIBLE.
royales!
6-4
[122] Intriguing!
[123] And they have! (Much more fun to watch that game...)
i dig alex gordon. i'm glad he's having a good year.
And another Royals run!
I love Matt Albers.
leche!!!
7-4
3 singles, 3 doubles & a walk. plus, melk advanced to 2nd on the throw.
me likey.
Well, I suppose that could have been worse ...
IBB then *triple* for KC!!!
i loves it!
9-4
alright, i'm off to prak.
rock on, everyone. have a wonderful evening!
Yankees desperately needed this second lefty, right?
[122] Eric?
Fantastic, our long man finally gets to pitch ... in the 8th damn inning.
Bravo Joey Joe Joe, bravo.
Let the Games begin...
AJ was pissed because he thought he struck out Mauer.
And man, Girardi is FUCKING PISSED!
Damn, Girardi was ready to kick Curry's ass.
[138] Where can I watch this online? Will the YES site uplaod it later?
"I mean, two runs and two runs. I didn't have time to do much out there."
[139] Presumably, yes.
"But I was in a jam in the first, I got out of it."
The explanations from both AJ and Girardi make sense to me. I feel bad for AJ. He's just a big lug who is sucking the life out of everyone.
[143] Yeah. Well said.
Video of Girardi Postgame:
http://web.yesnetwork.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=18257531&topic_id=&tcid=vpp_copy_18257531&v=3
[145] Thanks for that.
[143] Yes, I agree. The explanations seem to be sincere, plausible and more than likely. In retrospect, Kay's broadcast comments were reckless...imagining why Joe went into the dugout as if it were fact. I was listening on radio and Sterling was pooh-poohing the outburst, but Susan was hyping it.
Interesting to see all the different angles.
[145] Thanks, going to check that out in a bit.
AJ..I really really want to root for this guy but he's just a frustrating payer to watch. At least he's not a dickwad like John Lackey, rolling his eyes at his teammates in the field.. (required anti-Sox remark from me, thelarmis or RIYank!)
