[2] I'm sure it is; he concluded with "Let's Go Yank-ees!"... now if anyone is gonna be around, that's a different issue. I gotta work in a little while, so I'm just checking in to see what's up. Have a good one!
How psyched is Ivan Nova? A complete unknown around the league till this year, now he's the Yankees' #2 and he'll get two starts if necessary in the ALDS. That's a meteoric rise.
[22] Ya know, for some reason it seemed like a chardonnay evening. So I went with that instead. Now I'm cooking with the rest of it. [23] Ummmmm. I'm thinking D.C., because the idiot schmo is a talking 'head'.
remember 'jews for jeter'? my mom wanted a t-shirt.
i have a brother-sister set of students that are 'jews for jesus'. it's quite weird. they go to catholic school, yet celebrate all the jewish holidays. even the smaller ones. sooo strange.
[48] well, i'm not prestigious, but i'm terrible with money. maybe i can be the bookkeeper? i'm very organized. i guess, monies can be part of that. treasurer, it is. you, sir...are Mr. President.
[66] Oh! I didn't know what that link was and didn't click it.
Wow.
The cello suites make baseball seem like just a game or something.
I listened to them many, many times in my late teens. End of high school and college. I think that's how I learned about polyphonic melody.
[67] they absolutely do *not* trust him. but brains won't be ready, po will be on the PS roster, but won't catch. i'd rather not 'waste' a spot on romine. i wish they'd let jesus catch a bit this last week...
[69] i've listened to the cello suites TONS of times ever since college. most beautiful music ever composed. ever.
i performed some of the cello suites - on marimba - quite a lot throughout school. in fact, i won some awards and scholarship competitions with my interpretations and performances! : )
i also wrote some analysis papers on it for music theory class. i included 3 preludes on my debut percussion CD, which i'll link to from here soon.
the siblin book is most excellent. i plan on getting in touch with him, at some point, so he can hear my preludes on the marimba.
[71] I don't see why they need to carry Romine. Posada or Montero could catch in an emergency, and they're allowed to make roster changes if there's an injury, so Romine or Cervelli could always be added later if something happens to Martin.
[72] So you think Montero might be a regular or semi-regular catcher next year?
A lot of people don't think Montero can stick at catcher. They consider him a 1B or DH.
I'm not a scout, but I've seen quite a bit of him at Scranton, and I think he's fine as a catcher. I know he's supposed to be too big, but catchers are bigger these days. Look at the Royals' young catcher. Salvador Perez is so huge he makes the batter look like Eddie Gaedel.
yes, they work beautifully on the marimba. i agree there is a timbre and range similarity between the 2 instruments. cello is my favorite non-percussion instrument. i plan on taking lessons in a few years...
the cello suites are quite popular on many instruments and marimba is a common choice. if you ever get my cd, i hope you'll enjoy my versions!
[74] Randy, one thing I really don't trust scouts about is who can be a good catcher. (This was a huge deal in Moneyball -- don't know if it shows up in the movie.)
[90] well, i was going to last week, i even wrote a post to you, specifically that said "RI - you ready?" and then you disappeared.
i've been trying to find a good game thread where's there's quite a bit of us regulars. i thought it'd be more fun that way. right now, it's just you, randy & me and i'm about to leave in a few minutes, to meet someone for a drink.
i'd like to link to the site asap. just waiting for a prime moment...
[88] I'm really hoping Montero can catch. Not least because he'd be much more valuable as a catcher than as a 1B or DH.
I guess I'm just wondering what the Yankees think of him. A lot of the talking heads seem to think the Yanks are just pretending they think Montero can catch. As a negotiating ploy for trades, etc.
Just woke up, praise Jesus!! Charles Mingus jazz listening party last night, taking Jazz Kids to Indian Food Festival in park later today, and Yanks go wild on Jon Lester??! Can the weekend get any better??!
Huzzah!!!
Can you watch the early innings later on mlb.tv or something? Because man, it was very, very satisfying. (I really wish I could have watched on NESN, though.)
[115] Oh, no, I mean, NESN didn't do the game. It's not that I just couldn't get them. It's a Fox game. (Now you're not looking forward to it as much, right? McCarver is brutal, eardrum-popping horrible.)
[118] Oh No..may just watch the 30-min condensed game on mlb.com then. I imagine the Yanks crushing them led to the FOX sounding something like the newscasters when JFK died? Or is it only the ESPN guys who are Boston homers?
[125] I know. If we're going to face one of those two teams in the post-season, I would much rather play Boston. And yet, I'm not going to be the slightest bit disappointed when we sweep them yesterday and increase Tampa's chances.
[128] I dunno, they're pitching Lackey and Wakefield tomorrow. We could score double digit runs in both games, though I guess we'll probably play scrubs in one of the games.
[120] FOX definitely doesn't like the Yanks, which is funny since the Yanks definitely display all the corporate functionality and mindset they often champion. At any rate, E-fucpeeyen is in solid homer mode as we speak; I clicked on a couple of links there recapping the game and instead of a game recap or report, you get the Rangers hockey blog and a Stephen A. Smith article criticizing the Yanks' pitching. Can you spell bitter? "E-S-P-N-D-O-T-C-O-M"...
Chien-Ming Wang mowed down the Braves today (while the Cards won, meaning the NL wild card is as close as the AL).
I always liked Wang. Glad to see he's doing well. He doesn't have quite the velocity I remember, but he's pitching well enough that the Nats are going to offer him an extension.
He also got a hit and a RBI today. The first of his career.
Johnny Damon with the tater!! 6-2 Rays! [131] Man, I don't get that website at all. Great pennant races and their front page is college football??? Am I so out of touch with US sports, is college pigskin really more popular than baseball?
Also love all the sabre-Sox apologists talking about what a great team they still are. Great teams always collapse in September, right? [132] Good for Wang! Always liked him too, would be great for him to pitch a few more years.
Wang is a free agent this winter. I'd be happy for Cashman to sign him. That would make a nice rotation for us next year... assuming Hughes can return okay.
[133] They are focused primarily on what makes them the most money, and I'm pretty sure they're out of the money with baseball right now. At least the prevailing feeling is that the Sox are old news already and it's time to move on (ignore) to "greener" pastures. I used to be outraged, but what can I do; I can't move them to Independence, Missouri. Just ignore them for the most part. Sometimes it makes me laugh. Sometimes I listen to the radio station for laughs, and they even have moments of clarity from time to time, but other than that it's unabashedly revenue and gambling-oriented.
[135] I was going to say I'd really like to have Wang back. He was a solid guy from what I could tell and with some better personnel in place now he could rediscover some of his old magic here. Provided Cash can get off his duff or doesn't come across some legit medical reason not to sign him. At the least he can very likely push A.J to number 4 by mid-season.

[0] please, oh please tell me this is the game thread! it's gotta be the game thread...

braves wild card lead is down to 2 measly games...
How psyched is Ivan Nova? A complete unknown around the league till this year, now he's the Yankees' #2 and he'll get two starts if necessary in the ALDS. That's a meteoric rise.
i'm glad joe fuck's not there, but good god, timmay is insufferable.
i hate talk of the "nation." makes me ill.
leadoff bloop. stolen base on a pitch out.
1 out. here's the rat-faced midget fucker.
freddy reached 69mph on that curve!
midget fucker grounds to a-rod, ellsbury still at 2nd.

these announcers are fuggin' brutal.
[16] some idiot schmo. no clue who it is, but i just hit mute. surprised i lasted a whole inning...
Good range, good throw, kid.
well, that was a quick frame.
nice work, chief!
Idiot schmo = Omit hi coda.
RI - did you get into the merlot?
[21] would that be a D.C. or D.S. for the coda?
Wouldn't it be great if the Red Sox fired Francona, the Yankees fired Girardi and then the Yanks hire Francona?
[22] Ya know, for some reason it seemed like a chardonnay evening. So I went with that instead. Now I'm cooking with the rest of it.
[23] Ummmmm. I'm thinking D.C., because the idiot schmo is a talking 'head'.
i think it would be great if bud contracted the shit sox.
[24] No.
I'd take Jim Leyland, I've decided. I could take Joe Maddon, but there are some things about him that would drive me nuts.
If it's up to me I'll just stick with Girardi. Devil you know.
[25] very nice, da capo it is!
this is a veritable rally. i want some RUNS!!!
let's go jesus!
m/
yeah, i don't want tito.
between him and leyland, that sure is an awful lotta tobacco.
green light?
[29] Hey, let's form "Yankee Jews for Jesus"!!!!!
Way to go Jesus!
I'm liking this Montero kid.
Oh yeah! Our savior!
i didn't think he'd swing...
c'mon kid, rbi time!
and there it is. nice rip, jesus!
1-0
[33] 10 internets to Jesus for making RSN cry.
[31] i'm in!
remember 'jews for jeter'? my mom wanted a t-shirt.
i have a brother-sister set of students that are 'jews for jesus'. it's quite weird. they go to catholic school, yet celebrate all the jewish holidays. even the smaller ones. sooo strange.
Oh, this is too fucking beautiful.
Love you, Carl Crawford!!!
Nice $142 million contract there.
carl crawford!!!
3-0
Oh, man.
This is just too good. Do we deserve this? We must be much more virtuous than I thought. Baseball god is truly smiling upon us.
JETER!!!!!!!!
i love my captain!!!
jews for jeter. always.
mazel tov, DJ!
[41] let them smile wide 11 times beginning next friday!
Amazing how the wild races are so close this year.
Seemed like both the Braves and the Sox had it locked up.
[36] i wasn't here for the creation of this "+1 internets" business, but i really love it. quite clever!
grandy looks awful vs. lester. i blame this 2nd k on derek's rally killing hit.
[43] Annuit cœptis. (Like it says on our money.)
i have a very similar flattop haircut to maris's son.
Right, so, thelarmis, do you want to be president or treasurer? For most clubs president is more prestigious, but, you know...
[46] shekels? ; )
[48] well, i'm not prestigious, but i'm terrible with money. maybe i can be the bookkeeper? i'm very organized. i guess, monies can be part of that. treasurer, it is. you, sir...are Mr. President.
ooh, i know. i can be the brushes player!
crimson cock flies out on a blistering 81mph 'fast'ball.
freddy is fab!
siddown, salty
freddy not so fab.
4-pitch walk.
ooh, here's carl crawford! he's like their new coco crisp.
i'll never understand the neck tattoo...
[50] Oh, you can be the secretary, then. Maybe I'll be the treasurer, and we can save President to lure some highly desirable member.
Oh, Tim is going to talk about Moneyball. This should be good.
[54] good plan. me likey.
great job, chief!
Yes, Tim, it was a fine novel.
So, which is it: he doesn't know what 'novel' means, or he has no idea what kind of book it is?
those commercials are teh funny!
[57] speaking of books, did you follow the link i left for you yesterday?
These announcers are going to make the post season painful.
yankee jews for jesus!!!
I am in the hands of Jesus.
I am happy.
[59] What??? No, I didn't see it. Which thread? I'll go look.
Jesus casts Lester out.
[60] yeah, i was thinkin' the same thing before...
[63] go the "let's play two...on sunday" thread, comment #8.
The Yankees seem to be using Montero mostly as a DH.
Do they not trust him at catcher?
this little midget fucker really needs to shave. goddamn, he's gross looking!
[66] Oh! I didn't know what that link was and didn't click it.
Wow.

I listened to them many, many times in my late teens. End of high school and college. I think that's how I learned about polyphonic melody.
Ahhhhhhh.
I think I prefer Jeter's way of killing rallies to Papi's.
[67] they absolutely do *not* trust him. but brains won't be ready, po will be on the PS roster, but won't catch. i'd rather not 'waste' a spot on romine. i wish they'd let jesus catch a bit this last week...
nice, easy DP for fat liar!
I think the real problem is that they feel Montero should learn the pitching staff before they hand him the reins.
[69] i've listened to the cello suites TONS of times ever since college. most beautiful music ever composed. ever.
i performed some of the cello suites - on marimba - quite a lot throughout school. in fact, i won some awards and scholarship competitions with my interpretations and performances! : )

[72] i'm cool with dat.
scott atchison looks like he's 50 years old.
[74] i think russell will be the regular catcher next year. i hope montero is the backup/dh. let romine play the whole year at scranton...
frickin' scutaro. he's annoying.
shut up, tim. just shut up.
stfu!
don't walk him.
good.
verlander is NOT the mvp. he just isn't. give him the cy young, fine. he's not the mvp. just stop it. shut up and move on...
that was freddy's finest fastball.
crawford's iso discipline is .036
that's awful.
carl crawford = playa of the game!
dammit, a-rod. he did not look good there.
wow, 10 posts in a row.
hi me, it's nice talkin' to myself...
[73] I think it would work for me on marimba! Something about the timbre, marimba seems to have some affinity for cello.
holy crap, joba lookin' rather rugged.
long hair, beard. george definitely not in the house...
swish with another walk. obp, baby!
[85] stop interrupting me. harrumph!
yes, they work beautifully on the marimba. i agree there is a timbre and range similarity between the 2 instruments. cello is my favorite non-percussion instrument. i plan on taking lessons in a few years...

good lord, these scumbags are incredibly ugly dirtbags. quit panning the damn dugout!
this is where it'd be nice if freddy had an out pitch.
stfu, timmay!
[87] When are you coming out of the closet, anyway, with the Big Reveal and the cds and everything?
wow. great glove a-rod, terrible throw though. : /
Oy. A-Rod.
We want Nuñez! We want Nuñez!

[93] well, you kinda got him right there!
squib cakes.
Come on, Fat Fred. Finish, and you pass the audition.
Yay Fred!!!
6 shutout innings for the Chief!
#3 starter in the ALDS
[88] I'm really hoping Montero can catch. Not least because he'd be much more valuable as a catcher than as a 1B or DH.
I guess I'm just wondering what the Yankees think of him. A lot of the talking heads seem to think the Yanks are just pretending they think Montero can catch. As a negotiating ploy for trades, etc.
[99] Yup, #3.
I believe!
Jews for Jesus meeting right after the game!
Holy cow. What a stick this kid has.
omg, JESUS!!!
laser beam, oppo field line drive homer.
that was gorgeous!!!
now, i want double digits!
[103] might have to be a few hours after the game. i'm leaving in a few minutes, to meet someone for a drink.
you and randy get us to double digits and keep the shutout in tact, ok?!
[106] Okay! We are very tactful.
Oh, man. Not tactful. Dang.
Boone Logan up in the pen.
Jeez, A-Rod. Pedroia pwns you.
Uh.
Does A-Rod owe Pedroia some money or something?
Ummmmmm.
Why, Giuseppi? Because you were really counting on Wade to pitch well, and instead he gives up that booming single?
No, no. It's LOOGY time, is all.
Just woke up, praise Jesus!! Charles Mingus jazz listening party last night, taking Jazz Kids to Indian Food Festival in park later today, and Yanks go wild on Jon Lester??! Can the weekend get any better??!
Huzzah!!!
[113] Sounds like a pretty good weekend!
Can you watch the early innings later on mlb.tv or something? Because man, it was very, very satisfying. (I really wish I could have watched on NESN, though.)
They're actually showing the game on tv here in about 10mins, not sure which feed but can check mlb.com for NESN. Should be fun! No Mercy!!!
Here's Jesus.
I don't want to jinx him, but a particular kind of hit would complete a particular sort of achievement.
We want a triple
[115] Oh, no, I mean, NESN didn't do the game. It's not that I just couldn't get them. It's a Fox game. (Now you're not looking forward to it as much, right? McCarver is brutal, eardrum-popping horrible.)
Ooh, tough call kid. And a good pitch.
Also, rbj jinxed you.
[118] Oh No..may just watch the 30-min condensed game on mlb.com then. I imagine the Yanks crushing them led to the FOX sounding something like the newscasters when JFK died? Or is it only the ESPN guys who are Boston homers?
[119] My bad.
Ovah.
Ballgame.
Finito.
Ouch, I triggered the spam alert with my last comment about FOX. Murdoch's Minions are everywhere!! :)
Tampa two games back in the WC, with 5 games left to play.
[124] They HAVE to win tonight.
[124] Part of me thinks I should be rooting for the Sox.
They are slumping, while the Rays are hot.
But I just can't. Hate the Sox too much.

Tampa absolutely needs to win tonight.
2-2 in the 3rd.
I'm really surprised Lester, of all people, got torched. Dag. Rays up, 3-2.
[120] FOX definitely doesn't like the Yanks, which is funny since the Yanks definitely display all the corporate functionality and mindset they often champion.
