Roy White was really a fine ballplayer, which I never fully appreciated as a youngster, at the tail end of his career.

This team could win a shitload of games. I'd bump Van Slyke for Otis in a heartbeat, though.

It really does show how hard it is to make the Hall of Fame.

[1] He also came up as a 2nd baseman, alomg with Hoss Clarke, and was then coverted to a LFer... where he set the record for most consecutive error-less games.

He was one of the most solid, dignified, underrated Yankees of all-time.

(A really, REALLY cool utility from FanGraphs!)

Anyone hear of the trade of Montero for Pineda? Heyman confirmed. Oh my!

6 cult of basebaal   ~  Jan 13, 2012 7:56 pm

The deal is Pineda and Jose Campos for Montero and Hector Noesi, a source tells MLB.com's Greg Johns.

from MLBtraderumors.

[6] Jose Campos better be REALLY good...
I am not happy about this trade..

8 Yankee Mama   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:06 pm

Who is Jose Campos?

9 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:07 pm

[8] Exactly.
Twitter feedback from many is that Yanks made a great deal..I don't know, have they SEEN Jesus hit? Pineda is nice but Jesus can be a 30+ tater guy..

Here's a scouting report.

http://marinersfarmreview.com/2011/07/mfr-top-20-prospects-20-jose-campos/

That's from last summer. KG ranked Campos the Mariners' #5 prospect last week over at BP.

Here's another scouting report from the summer.

Here's from a scouting report over the summer:

[blockquote]
Campos is a very, very impressive young man. While he doesn’t have the upside that Felix or Pineda did at his stage, he still shows a lot of things that you like to see, especially in what he flashes for future development at his age. His body type is almost picture-perfect for the type of pitcher he is, which only adds to the excitement and feelings of plus projection.

If I had to throw a future projection on him, I’d say Campos has a good shot at holding down a third or fourth slot in a rotation in fine fashion, with a chance at being a number two if his command improves sufficiently. If his command doesn’t progress enough, however, he could still have solid enough value as a late-inning reliever with his stuff. This is a kid to keep an eye on, and be more than willing to get excited about.

Man, I think this trade just broke River Ave. Blues ...

14 cult of basebaal   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:15 pm

Maybe this means that Cletus Pisshands isn't retired quite yet!

15 randym77   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:16 pm

Boo. I like Montero. :-(

[13] Haha!
[12] Twitter is exploding too, glad I got my new iPhone to check as I head out.

And here I was thinking I was going to upgrade the server tonight.

I've never seen Montero play, but holy crap Pineda is impressive.

18 kenarneson   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:23 pm

Wow, and you landed Kuroda, too. Congrats on another fine season for y'all.

19 Yankee Mama   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:26 pm

We got Kuroda too? I love shopping.

I'm going to miss Montero ... a lot. But Pineda is going to make all the "possibilities" of Hughes a reality. This kid is GOOD.

25 cult of basebaal   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:31 pm

So, CC, Pineda, Kuroda, Nova, Hughes/Garcia.

Guess who's missing from that picture?

Oh yeah, fucking AJ ...

26 Yankee Mama   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:32 pm

My non-Yankee fan people are jealous. I'm getting "kudos" texts. Hope they're right.

27 thelarmis   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:34 pm

[25] yeah, let's hope we eat some dough and get rid of his punk ass and disgusting tattoos.

i dig kuroda. reportedly, a 1-yr. deal bet. $10-11mil. we should all be so lucky...

i was really hoping jesus would homer at the pale hose, so i can say:
"Jesus just left Chicago" ...there, i said it! ; )

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:35 pm

[26] I hope it works out like the Granderson/Kennedy exchange did, Pineda's a stud and Montero becomes a mid-order masher.

30 thelarmis   ~  Jan 13, 2012 8:48 pm

[29] nice dude! i totally didn't realize that was on there. i just pulled the cd from my collection and will have to spin it!
