The Red Sox look to get even with the Yanks this afternoon. Fab Five Freddy Garcia–flammable so far this season–will pitch for the Bombers. C’mon, Freddy, hold that pill like a fuggin’ egg and throw the crap out of it.
Derek Jeter DH
Nick Swisher RF
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Curtis Granderson CF
Andruw Jones LF

Let’s Go Yank-ees!
According to Hard all Talk, Sherman is saying Pineda was shut down with soreness today and will be re-evaluated.
I want my Montero back.
Three months into the trade. Still too early. But discouraging news today, for sure.
Montero's OPS is .693.
Maybe we can wait a year or two to evaluate the trade.
Good start cap'n.
41 degrees and rainy here. Good day to see some sunshine on tv.
[1] Crud.
OK, off to go see the Mud Hens play.
Well, this is not a fortuitous start.
Love that chef/egg photo. Is it Oliver Hardy?
Just checking in on the game. Is everyone doing the Freddy?
I know I keep saying it, but for $2M, the Yanks could have kept that wily Bartolo Colon who is nothing but great so far this year with the A's.
Garcia needs to go. Good to see that Phelps is coming in. Not really good, but better than what's going on now. That first double by Sweeney was a good hit on a very good pitch, but the rest of the hits have been solid.
Good grief. Talk about putting your team in a hole.
So, according to the idiot FOX announcers, Girardi stated that he wanted to get Phelps into the game because he hadn't had work in a while. Now, aside from this underscoring how teams these days carry too many pitchers, isn't it perverse logic to *want* to get relief pitchers (outside of the "closer"), especially the long-reliever, into the game?
Well, in any case, I guess Girardi got his wish today.
Chessmaster!
Freddie and his slop bucket vs the Red Sox ... Is this a rerun from last season?
This effing game...TV off. I'm drinking a beer and dealing with the lawn. Check back in a couple of hours.
A cut away from the Yankee game to Seattle. Today's only bright spot.
Onions form Humber. Coming back from 3-0 for the K. Wowzers!
Dont't walk him for Mo's sake!
Check swing on a 3-2 slider. Called strike. Gets by the catcher. Batter argues. Catcher to 1st. Perfect game in the books. Congrats to Humer of the Whites Sox.
Nice to come back from the perfecto to see the Yankees coming back and putting the fear in the Sox!
TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIX!
Ouch.... 20 comments on a Saturday Sox game?
Nick Swisher! Leading the AL in RBIs with a Grand Slam; And now Tex going deep for three it's now 9-8 and the RSN is swooning.
[20] It is a beautiful day, and there are only so many weekends in the Spring to fit everything.
Holy shit. Turned the channel after the perfecto and now it's 9-8. WTF!
[22] Agreed. Great weather here.
Just got back inside and turned on the tube. Holy shit!
[23] Mind meld. LOL.
Or maybe losing 9-1 renders us all speechless?
Good work, Soriano. Time for another 7 spot.
Nunnue can hit.
Will Jeter bunt? I hope not.
wow..wow! need coffee to process this..
but it's on FOX, damn.
This ump has the knees confused with the ankles.
Holy crap. This turned into a game after all.
Hell fucking yes!
Wow.
I missed all the fun. I checked in and it was 9-0 and suddenly I came back and it was 9-8 and hey, look at Swish!
Unbelievable.
Amazing!
And the IBB to Cano? Take him deep A-Rod!!
Part of me almost feels bad for Bobby V..he'll be killed but that bullpen really isn't his fault.
TIME TO TRADE SWISHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[34] See that cool, quick shot of Jeter schooling Nunez in the dugout? The Captain at work.
No one is scared of Alex.
ARod needs to be able to do SOMETHING with the inside pitch....
Damn! Smoke it!
Foul ball.
Damn.
DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!
g e t t i n g t e n s e n o w . . . .
Hey, there was a perfect game today! Who is Phil Humber??
TEIX! Eat shit, fenway.
Double for Teix!
I'm having fun now!
Are yo'all havin' fun?
Time for some bone saving.
Damn. Got to go. GO YANKEES!
[44] Really? Phil Humber had a perfect game? He was the Mets first round draft pick (third overall) in 2004. A lot of Mets fans had high hopes for him, but he was widely considered a bust. Until recently, anyway.
Those clever BoSox fans..booing the manager cause their pen gave up 12 runs! Man, what a great comeback.
Damn.
More runs!
Boston Massacre 2012.
Go for two!
Best Game Ever!
[50] From FauxJohnSterling on twitter: "Suzyn, Humber's perfect game proves that if you wanna accomplish something in this world, you need to leave the Mets." :)
[57] Hahahahahah!
Beautiful that John Henry & Larry Lucchino are at the game taking notes. "To do list: Get yacht cleaned; compliment wife on face lift; give OK to Ben to fire Valentine; watch L'pool game on DVR"
[57] That's hilarious.
Maybe he's finally coming into his own. There's a lot of people who think Rice University has produced a lot of busts. Among Rice first round draft picks who didn't work out as hoped: Jose Cruz Jr., Wade Townsend, David Aardsma, Joe Savery, and the inimitable Bubba Crosby.
Phil Humber was on that list, but maybe he'll turn into something.
Then again, it was the Mariners...
Instant YES Classic.
What a game. We need to have more cut-a-ways-to-perfect-games in the future... ;-)
Glad I didn't wake up early for this. I woke up just at the right time. Figured the game would be over, and it was for all intents and purposes.
Yahoo!
Only problem is Pineda. Fuck me. Forgive me here, but can never have too much pitching.
[57] That is great. The FOX guys mentioned at one point that the Mets have traded seven guys who have gone on to pitch perfect games. That sounds unbelievable, so it may be no-hitters. In any case, if there is a mistake in there it's mine.
[59] Also hilarious. I must say, though, that while I don't know much about Lucchino and Werner, Henry is a good guy.
[63] Yeah, what is the deal with Pineda? This game would have been really different if he or Phelps had started instead of Garcia.
[63] Oh, no, what about him? Has his progress been retarded or something?
My comment #65 is awaiting moderation, presumably because I used the word r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d?
I asked:
[63] What happened to Pineda? Has his progress been r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d or something?
During that game, at 9-0, my son said "I'm just going to root for whichever team is winning." I said, "You could do that, but it won't be much fun int the long run. And what happens if the Yankees score 10? What will you do then?"
He thought it over and didn't commit. When he saw it go to 9-8, he was blown away. Then he went to his bedroom smiling when it was 10-9. And then while he was reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in bed with his mom, I came in, waited for the chapter to end and led him out to the TV one more time.
"Mom, you gotta see this, they got fifteen!!!"
A valuable lesson, courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Bronx Bombers.
I like Swish.
Time to have a thread about the Yankees all-time greatest combacks.
This has got to be in the top 5 or better.
[67] Awww!
[69] The one in '98 with the pinch-hit Strawberry grand slam.
[71] Good example, although overall, I'd rate that game a notch below this one (down 5-1 in the 9th).
[72] Ah, is that all it was? Maybe I'm conflating games, then...I have a recollection of a '98 game when we were down by a similar margin late, like 8-0, maybe?
