According to Hard all Talk, Sherman is saying Pineda was shut down with soreness today and will be re-evaluated.

I want my Montero back.

2 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 21, 2012 1:49 pm

Three months into the trade. Still too early. But discouraging news today, for sure.

3 RIYank   ~  Apr 21, 2012 2:11 pm

Montero's OPS is .693.
Maybe we can wait a year or two to evaluate the trade.

Good start cap'n.

5 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 3:11 pm

41 degrees and rainy here. Good day to see some sunshine on tv.
[1] Crud.

OK, off to go see the Mud Hens play.

7 randym77   ~  Apr 21, 2012 3:27 pm

Well, this is not a fortuitous start.

Love that chef/egg photo. Is it Oliver Hardy?

Just checking in on the game. Is everyone doing the Freddy?

I know I keep saying it, but for $2M, the Yanks could have kept that wily Bartolo Colon who is nothing but great so far this year with the A's.

Garcia needs to go. Good to see that Phelps is coming in. Not really good, but better than what's going on now. That first double by Sweeney was a good hit on a very good pitch, but the rest of the hits have been solid.

10 Simone   ~  Apr 21, 2012 3:53 pm

Good grief. Talk about putting your team in a hole.

11 monkeypants   ~  Apr 21, 2012 4:05 pm

So, according to the idiot FOX announcers, Girardi stated that he wanted to get Phelps into the game because he hadn't had work in a while. Now, aside from this underscoring how teams these days carry too many pitchers, isn't it perverse logic to *want* to get relief pitchers (outside of the "closer"), especially the long-reliever, into the game?

Well, in any case, I guess Girardi got his wish today.

Chessmaster!

12 The Hawk   ~  Apr 21, 2012 4:14 pm

Freddie and his slop bucket vs the Red Sox ... Is this a rerun from last season?

13 Eric McCauley   ~  Apr 21, 2012 4:19 pm

This effing game...TV off. I'm drinking a beer and dealing with the lawn. Check back in a couple of hours.

14 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:17 pm

A cut away from the Yankee game to Seattle. Today's only bright spot.

15 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:21 pm

Onions form Humber. Coming back from 3-0 for the K. Wowzers!

16 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:25 pm

Dont't walk him for Mo's sake!

17 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:26 pm

Check swing on a 3-2 slider. Called strike. Gets by the catcher. Batter argues. Catcher to 1st. Perfect game in the books. Congrats to Humer of the Whites Sox.

18 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:34 pm

Nice to come back from the perfecto to see the Yankees coming back and putting the fear in the Sox!

[20] It is a beautiful day, and there are only so many weekends in the Spring to fit everything.

23 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:40 pm

Holy shit. Turned the channel after the perfecto and now it's 9-8. WTF!

24 Eric McCauley   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:41 pm

26 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:46 pm

Or maybe losing 9-1 renders us all speechless?

27 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 5:54 pm

Good work, Soriano. Time for another 7 spot.

Hell fucking yes!

34 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:12 pm

Wow.

I missed all the fun. I checked in and it was 9-0 and suddenly I came back and it was 9-8 and hey, look at Swish!

Unbelievable.

35 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:12 pm

Amazing!
And the IBB to Cano? Take him deep A-Rod!!

Part of me almost feels bad for Bobby V..he'll be killed but that bullpen really isn't his fault.

36 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:13 pm

TIME TO TRADE SWISHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

37 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:14 pm

[34] See that cool, quick shot of Jeter schooling Nunez in the dugout? The Captain at work.

38 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:15 pm

No one is scared of Alex.

39 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:15 pm

45 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:18 pm

TEIX! Eat shit, fenway.

Time for some bone saving.

49 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:22 pm

Damn. Got to go. GO YANKEES!

50 randym77   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:23 pm

[44] Really? Phil Humber had a perfect game? He was the Mets first round draft pick (third overall) in 2004. A lot of Mets fans had high hopes for him, but he was widely considered a bust. Until recently, anyway.

51 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:23 pm

Those clever BoSox fans..booing the manager cause their pen gave up 12 runs! Man, what a great comeback.

52 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:24 pm

Damn.

53 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:24 pm

More runs!

54 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:25 pm

Best Game Ever!

57 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:30 pm

[50] From FauxJohnSterling on twitter: "Suzyn, Humber's perfect game proves that if you wanna accomplish something in this world, you need to leave the Mets." :)

58 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:34 pm

[57] Hahahahahah!

59 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:42 pm

Beautiful that John Henry & Larry Lucchino are at the game taking notes. "To do list: Get yacht cleaned; compliment wife on face lift; give OK to Ben to fire Valentine; watch L'pool game on DVR"

60 randym77   ~  Apr 21, 2012 6:46 pm

[57] That's hilarious.

Maybe he's finally coming into his own. There's a lot of people who think Rice University has produced a lot of busts. Among Rice first round draft picks who didn't work out as hoped: Jose Cruz Jr., Wade Townsend, David Aardsma, Joe Savery, and the inimitable Bubba Crosby.

Phil Humber was on that list, but maybe he'll turn into something.

Then again, it was the Mariners...

61 randym77   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:00 pm

Instant YES Classic.

62 Bama Yankee   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:03 pm

What a game. We need to have more cut-a-ways-to-perfect-games in the future... ;-)

63 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:08 pm

Glad I didn't wake up early for this. I woke up just at the right time. Figured the game would be over, and it was for all intents and purposes.

Yahoo!

Only problem is Pineda. Fuck me. Forgive me here, but can never have too much pitching.

64 Eric McCauley   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:17 pm

[57] That is great. The FOX guys mentioned at one point that the Mets have traded seven guys who have gone on to pitch perfect games. That sounds unbelievable, so it may be no-hitters. In any case, if there is a mistake in there it's mine.

[59] Also hilarious. I must say, though, that while I don't know much about Lucchino and Werner, Henry is a good guy.

[63] Yeah, what is the deal with Pineda? This game would have been really different if he or Phelps had started instead of Garcia.

65 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:22 pm

[63] Oh, no, what about him? Has his progress been retarded or something?

66 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:23 pm

My comment #65 is awaiting moderation, presumably because I used the word r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d?

I asked:

[63] What happened to Pineda? Has his progress been r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d or something?

67 Jon DeRosa   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:29 pm

During that game, at 9-0, my son said "I'm just going to root for whichever team is winning." I said, "You could do that, but it won't be much fun int the long run. And what happens if the Yankees score 10? What will you do then?"

He thought it over and didn't commit. When he saw it go to 9-8, he was blown away. Then he went to his bedroom smiling when it was 10-9. And then while he was reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in bed with his mom, I came in, waited for the chapter to end and led him out to the TV one more time.

"Mom, you gotta see this, they got fifteen!!!"

A valuable lesson, courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Bronx Bombers.

68 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:31 pm

I like Swish.

69 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:48 pm

Time to have a thread about the Yankees all-time greatest combacks.
This has got to be in the top 5 or better.

70 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:56 pm

[67] Awww!

71 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 7:56 pm

[69] The one in '98 with the pinch-hit Strawberry grand slam.

72 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 21, 2012 8:58 pm

[71] Good example, although overall, I'd rate that game a notch below this one (down 5-1 in the 9th).

73 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 21, 2012 9:08 pm

[72] Ah, is that all it was? Maybe I'm conflating games, then...I have a recollection of a '98 game when we were down by a similar margin late, like 8-0, maybe?
