Girardi is really going out of his way to rest Jeter and ARod. While it seems unnecessary at this time, my guess is Joe wants to make sure they both have plenty left later in the season.

While a Win/Loss in April/May is the same as one in Aug/Sept...
it doesn't feel that way.

If this were true, Basketball players would play are hard in the 1st Quarter as the Last Quarter.... which they don't.

So maybe Joe has the right idea?

2 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 12:28 pm

1) Jeez, Elton Brand looks like he's playing pretty hard in the first quarter against the Bulls right now.

3 Dimelo   ~  Apr 28, 2012 12:51 pm

[0] Don't forget the Rangers either. I don't usually follow hockey, but this past Rangers series was really exciting. Let's go New York!!!!

4 Dillon   ~  Apr 28, 2012 1:06 pm

How many errors for Nunez today @ SS? I'm predicting at least 2...

5 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 28, 2012 1:10 pm

Man, Bryce Harper was called up and is making his debut tonight. How can a 19 year old kid make it the the bigs at that age and NOT be cocky? I hope he does well but that doesn't mean I need to like him.

6 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 1:54 pm

[5] Jeter wasn't cocky. (Assuming 'cocky' is a way someone acts rather than the way he feels.) What about Mel Ott? I mean, I have no idea, I'm asking.

7 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 1:55 pm

[4] I don't think you're allowed to pick 2. That's the over-under.

8 Yankee Mama   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:04 pm

[3] The Ranger games have been most entertaining. They've been so suspenseful, I keep forgetting to breathe.

Hope Garcia doesn't suck today. He needs a crafty win under his belt. Throw junk, dude.

9 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:19 pm

[6] Mel Ott was 17 in 1926. I am pretty sure he wasn't blowing kisses at Walter Johnson after any homeruns. And if he did his career would have ended right quick.
Jeter was 21 for his debut. He's in a class all by himself as we all know. ; )

10 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:26 pm

Man, 17, amazing. I'm pretty sure he wasn't blowing kisses either, but press coverage was so different then. Johnson and Ott played in different leagues, of course...

And Jeter was 20, not 21. By a few weeks.

11 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:27 pm

Hm, I should have said "too" where I said "either". I confused myself with "wasn't".

12 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:37 pm

[10] What? No inner league during the Roaring Twenties. Damn you Kennesaw Mountain Landis!

13 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:37 pm

[11] yes, you should have. please get a grip on the english language before constructing your next post. thanks.

14 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:38 pm

[12] i hiked Kennesaw Mountain with my girlfriend a coupla weekends ago. not far outside Atlanta. ; )

15 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:38 pm

ah, gotta hate it when the emoticons get split between lines.

16 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:43 pm

[15] I second that emoticon.

17 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:47 pm

[16] : )

18 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:51 pm

No 'Abreu talk'?

19 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 28, 2012 2:53 pm

I may be wrong, but it looks like Fox is NOT blacking out 4:00PM games on MLBTV. Last year, everything was black until 7:00PM.

20 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:01 pm

[19] Hey, you're right! Excellent.

21 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:04 pm

Awesome. Delmon Young is going to have a medical evaluation -- alcohol abuse and anger management. Can't play until a doctor clears him.

Paging Doctor Goldstein...

22 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:07 pm

[21] i *just* read that article.

23 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:08 pm

let's hope we don't get URP'ed tonite.

GO CHIEF! GO YANKS!!!

24 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:10 pm

Will Freddy make it out of the third today?

25 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:10 pm

It's getting late early for Fred.

26 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:12 pm

2-0 to the second hitter, Freddy lucky he didn't give up a dinger.

27 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:12 pm

I figure Miggy and Prince are licking their chops.

28 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:13 pm

Wow, there's one of Edward Scissorhand's talents.

29 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:13 pm

Good throw by Russell.

30 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:13 pm

Not catching, obviously. I meant falling down on top of runners.

31 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:14 pm

Mini Dave LaRoche for strike three.

32 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:14 pm

Oh, baby!
Partly good, partly lucky. Good because it really broke, but lucky because it was right in the middle waiting to be crushed.

Whew.

33 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:15 pm

12 pitches, one out. So, [24] no.

34 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:18 pm

Same pitch!

Freddy is a wonder.

35 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:18 pm

Just threw a pork chop past the wolf. Damn!

36 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:18 pm

Well, not the same, not down Main St. But that floppy lazy curve.

37 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:22 pm

Oh, Fred. So close to getting out of that crap.

38 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:22 pm

Have I ever mentioned how much I love intentional walks, by the way?

39 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:22 pm

Crap.

Hurry up Andy.

40 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:23 pm

Junkyard Dog.

41 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:24 pm

That was a Three True Outcomes inning for Fred, huh?

42 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:25 pm

i miss the 'Tolo...

43 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:28 pm

Oh, sure. They get a 3-run homer, we get a solo.

44 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:34 pm

Why does it feel like whenever I check in, we're losing?
Does this team ever take an early lead?

45 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:38 pm

I'm happy there is no Ibañez in our outfield today.

46 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:38 pm

Freddie might have a chance if everything was thrown 12" lower...
Man, he is UP in the Zone. Bad, bad stuff.

47 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:41 pm

Man, Swish saved a run there, I'd say.

God, Fred just sucks.

48 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:42 pm

Normally I don't question Cashman, but I can't figure out why Colon was not resigned. We know Freddie caught lightning last year, while Bartolo has REAL stuff. I figured he might be even better this year then last.

49 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:42 pm

This game is not even fun now.

50 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:42 pm

6-1. In the second inning.

51 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:42 pm

Oy.

52 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:44 pm

I don't want Freddy even in the bullpen.

53 monkeypants   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:44 pm

Hm. Just got back from dinner...tuned into the game...already a blowout-in-making. Has there been a single game yet this season when the Yankees starter didn't give up three or more runs in the first couple of innings?

oops, and as I type Freddie gets the quick hook.

Fucking awesome.

54 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:45 pm

I've been tracking Betances. He's too wild, still.
Anybody have Roy Oswalt's phone number?

55 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:46 pm

i never wanna see the chief in pinstripes again.

no more of this fucking crap.

56 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:48 pm

Has there been a single game yet this season when the Yankees starter didn't give up three or more runs in the first couple of innings?

Hm, besides Kuroda, I guess, since he did have that shutout and the 2-0 loss to Darvish.
Maybe Dave Robertson should pitch the first every couple days.

57 randym77   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:49 pm

Good grief. Six runs, in two innings????

58 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:50 pm

[42] I second THAT emotion.
His $2M salary was chump change. The Banter could have raised it, and donated it to the Yanks.

59 monkeypants   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:51 pm

[56] Yeah, I forgot about Kuroda's win. In the loss to Darvish, he still managed to give up a first inning run---albeit not three runs, but nevertheless it sure seems like the team is losing by the second inning of every game.

60 monkeypants   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:51 pm

DEEP to left field (caught a few steps short of the 318 ft sign)...

61 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:54 pm

Gunna be a long day. And Lebron is going off vs. the Knicks. Ugh.

62 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:55 pm

48) Good point, good point.

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:55 pm

[61} And the NY Rangers give up the tying goal with 3 seconds left in the 2nd period.

64 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:57 pm

And Derek Rose could be seriously hurt for the Bulls. That's bum luck.

65 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:59 pm

Yay, alpaca!

66 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:59 pm

Nunez! Giving a clinic out there!

67 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 3:59 pm

A 1, 2, 3 inning? Our pitchers are allowed to do that?

68 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:01 pm

[67] yes, as long as they're not starters.

69 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:04 pm

Prince "Fielder" is ironically named. Are there any players named "Hitter" who are utility infielders, LIDR, or something like that?

70 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:08 pm

Oh, come on. Damn!
He's good.

71 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:09 pm

(Dirks, that is. At fielding.)

72 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:10 pm

Damn, Dirks made that catch on Swisher's drive look easy. I thought it would go to the wall.

73 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:13 pm

[72] Yeah, but I think you have a ways to go in your Misjudging Fly Balls education before you're ready for YES. Or WCBS radio.

74 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:15 pm

Thought and said are different things.

75 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:16 pm

From Jack Curry: "On Thurs, Cashman said he wouldn't pull plug on Hughes or Garcia after 4 starts. After 4 starts, Garcia has 12.51 ERA. Plug could get pulled."

Amen.

76 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:17 pm

[74] Not for Michael Kay.

77 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:18 pm

I came home, turned on the tv and predicted a shitty outcome. Lo and behold, it is 6-1. No offense to Freddy, but his locker should be cleared out immediately if not sooner.

78 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:20 pm

[76] Yeah, sometimes I think his mouth is directly attached to his brain stem

79 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:26 pm

[77] the Yankees also have no offense today.

80 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:30 pm

Please let Phelps be Aaron Small 2012. With a better long term career of course.
[79] Wonderful. Oi!

81 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:33 pm

1 hit? safe to say we're being URP'ed... : /

82 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:34 pm

captain now has 1,000 walks.

83 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:35 pm

and of course the scumsucking shit sox have been scoring double digit runs every fucking night.

84 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:36 pm

[81] Freddy getting blown up really doesn't matter at this point.

85 Simone   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:47 pm

Ay, ay, the pain!

#39 Andy cannot come soon enough.

86 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:49 pm

this is smyly emoticon day : (

87 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:56 pm

Smyly Smyles! He's got Good Vibrations, but the Yankees are hitting like Vegetables, and Garcia is not among the Heroes (and Villains).

88 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 4:58 pm

[87] now i wanna drink a Sunkist!

89 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:05 pm

holy crap, a hit! what a concept...

90 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:06 pm

the single drives smyly to a frown and cokey is in!

let's at least cut this deficit in half right now...

91 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:08 pm

Finally, we got that Smyly kid out of there. And only his second year of pro ball.

92 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:09 pm

dammit tex

93 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:09 pm

Woo hoo! A home run with a man on base.

94 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:11 pm

[93] Ah I missed the DP, had to let the dogs out.

95 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:13 pm

wish we had men on base for that grandish homer...

96 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:14 pm

[92] when you play tex, you would hope he would sometimes lift and separate.

97 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:16 pm

And we promptly give back that home run.

98 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:19 pm

A day to forget.

99 RIYank   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:21 pm

[90] Have a cokey and a smyly!

100 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:28 pm

[99] i'm actually having a root beer and an organic burrito. then, i plan on having a good gig!

101 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:29 pm

How old is Dotel? How many teams has that guy played on? It must be the record.

102 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:34 pm

Damn, Derek Rose busted his ACL, done for the year. Clear lane for the Heat to reach the finals now.

103 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:35 pm

[102] Now do we really wish The Knicks coasted to the eighth seed?

104 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:37 pm

[102] Really??? Damn..Heat-Bulls was going to be a great series. Hope the Celtics don't go on a run now..

Umm..was the Chief bad again? Just waking up here.

105 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:39 pm

[104] Yes. That bad.

[101] 39 y.o., on his 14th team

106 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:40 pm

Atta boy, Swish. Too bad Garcia started today.

107 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:40 pm

Swisher is soooooooooo under-rated.

108 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:46 pm

Valverde was perfect in save situations last year, but not that good in non-save situations.

109 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:50 pm

Tex is becoming a BIG disappointment. Why would a batter swing on 2-0 down by 4 runs in the 9th inning? And as expected, he popped out. Sad.

I hate to pile on, and I really like him, but we can't deny what we see.

110 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:54 pm

So cool.

111 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:55 pm

Rauuuuuuuuuuul!

112 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:55 pm

this is insane. we would've won this game if The 'Tolo was pitching!!!

113 thelarmis   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:55 pm

tie this bitch up, eric!

114 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:56 pm

That first pitch was a ball.

115 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:57 pm

Missed it by........that much. Shite!

116 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:57 pm

Win or lose, the Yankees will take something from this game. Nice fight, and Chavez just missed getting to that ball and hitting it out.

117 rbj   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:59 pm

Oh well, congrats to Drew Smyly on his first ML win. And we got Valverde's pitch count up.

118 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 28, 2012 5:59 pm

Painful. Just fucking missed it. Motherfucker.
