The Return of the Score Truck

And so the Yankees made us happy today when Robbie Cano, Nick Swisher–and later in the game, Alex Rodriguez–went Boom! Cano hit a grand slam in the third inning. Mark Teixeira followed and flew out to the warning track in right and then Swisher hit a bomb over the right field wall. Took a minute to admire it, too.

Rodriguez dumped a three-run home run into the fountain out in left field in the eighth.

Meanwhile, Phil Hughes pitched well (walked one, struck out seven)–yo, into the seventh inning, he pitched.

Final Score: Yanks 10, Royals 4.

And the Knicks won a close one at the Garden.

Yippee.

Red Sox Orioles have been playing so long, the Knicks actually won a playoff game.

Yeah, they're going to the 16th. Man.
Adrian Gonzales has made 7 outs in this game.

3 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:14 pm

And Mark Reynolds has been on base six times, and is batting again now!

4 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:27 pm

The 17th inning begins.

5 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:27 pm

Darnell McDonald is pitching. Really.

6 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:31 pm

McDonald walks Betemit, and then incredibly Betemit is CS. WTF??? And on the next pitch JJ Hardy doubles (first 5-hit game of his career), and then Darnell walks Markakis. Instead of bases juiced with nobody out and an outfielder pitching, the O's have first and second with one out.

Crazy game.

Adam Jones 3-run jack, Monster seats.
The O's will face Pedroia and Gonzales 2nd and 3rd in the bottom, and , so it's not a foregone conclusion...
Chris Davis pitched the sixteenth for the Orioles and will now attempt to close it out and earn a W.

(Davis is 0-fer this long day, by the way, so it would be kind of cool if it turned out to be a successful day for him.)

Okay, Sweeney leads off with a single off Davis' glove...

10 rbj   ~  May 6, 2012 6:40 pm

Lead off single for Boston, man if they tie it up again. . . I don't know what, just more baseball.

11 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:41 pm

Davis is definitely having trouble. They should let Wieters pitch! (But maybe they have nobody else to catch, I dunno.)

12 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:41 pm

Walks Pedroia, tying run at the plate with nobody out.

13 rbj   ~  May 6, 2012 6:41 pm

And a walk!

14 rbj   ~  May 6, 2012 6:42 pm

[11] Didn't Bugs Bunny pitch to himself?

15 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:43 pm

A-Gone strikes out on three pitches!!!!!

Not a game he will want to remember.

16 rbj   ~  May 6, 2012 6:44 pm

Orioles win!

17 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:44 pm

AWESOME.

What can you say? This is crushing for the Red Sox. Man.

18 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 6:45 pm

Well, rbj, a good, albeit long, day of baseball.

Imagine being a Sox fan now?

I do feel bad for Darnell McDonald. Taking one for the team and turning out to be the goat.

19 rbj   ~  May 6, 2012 6:47 pm

[18] Yup. Good night to you too.

Bobby V giving the post game now. I can't tell if he wants to cry or scream a stream of curses. For the record, he says, AGon wanted to pitch. Stunning loss. Fantastic game. All pitchers totally used up. AGon 0 fer 8! The Sox had TWO innings against a non-pitcher, and couldn't score. FANTASTIC game!

great news on the oreo's and shit sox.

great job on the reporting, RI!

22 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2012 8:13 pm

[20] Yeah, honestly, he looked like a close friend had died.
I used to really dislike Bobby V. I feel so sorry for him now I can't dislike him.
But they'll start winning, and then I'll dislike him again.

I know, the best line-up in baseball was shut down by a first baseman pitching. Well, not shut down. But shut out.

[21] Thank you, sir! It was my honor and privilege, of course.

[22] Yeah. Good stuff. Bobby V. is a smart guy. A douche bag, but a smart guy. He knew what he was getting in to so tough shit for him.
