"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Young and the Restless

Yanks look to end their modest three-game skid tonight with Ivan Nova on the hill. I like their chances agains Chris Young. This weekend will get a whole lot more uncomfortable for Yankee fans should the Mets win what with R.A. Dickey pitching tomorrow night.

1. Jeter SS
2. Granderson CF
3. A-Rod 3B
4. Cano 2B
5. Teixeira 1B
6. Swisher RF
7. Ibanez LF
8. Martin C
9. Nova P

Never mind those scrappy underdogs: Let’s Go Yank-ees!

3 RIYank   ~  Jun 23, 2012 6:31 pm

An 8-pitch inning with a k! Good inning, Ivan.

4 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 23, 2012 6:42 pm

Damn. Papsmear gives up 2 runs in the top of the 9th as TB ties Philly. Philly up in the bottom of the 9th.

Good job, Ivan.
Working hard, but still looks good.

Now not as good...

No, he'd have to be a girl, I guess.

Oh no it's on FOX? And did joe buck just say Charlie Sheen is visiting the booth? Great, has-been drug addicts are now part of the FOX entertainment strategy. Time for MLB.com. GO Yanks!

12 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:03 pm

God, I fucking hate this Buck asshole.

13 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:05 pm

Wow, 609 for Jim Thome.

14 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:09 pm

How 'bout that Robinson Cano, ladies and gentlemen.

15 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:12 pm

And Thome Wins it for Philly against TB. Good deal.

16 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:17 pm

Jesus, STFU ALREADY!

17 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:21 pm

Oh, FFS!

18 RIYank   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:23 pm

Where's Eduardo Nuñez? We could use his sure hands out there tonight.

19 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:27 pm

(16,17) I had to bail when Joe asked Tim if he knew that Chri Young's walk up music was by Guns-n-Roses. A: who the fuck cares and B: there's minus infinity chance Tim has heard of GnR.

I am at my sister's in Pittsburgh and watched the Buccos game earlier. PNC was packed and the people there were having a blast. Andrew McCutchen is fun to watch. He reminds me of Omar from "The Wire." Just realized the Yanks are on fox and are already losing 2-0. FFS is right. Bollocks!

21 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:44 pm

Is that true? Teix has zero errors?

Damn.

22 Bruce Markusen   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:54 pm

Can anybody on this team EVER get a two-out hit with a runner in scoring position? I mean EVER!

23 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 23, 2012 7:57 pm

[22] Not gritty enough like the Mets.
Sigh..

24 RIYank   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:05 pm

Well go figure. Can't predict baseball.

25 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:06 pm

[22] If they thought middle of the field the just might. Instead, they strike out and pop up.

26 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:15 pm

Down by three, top of the seventh, no one one, and Teix whiffs on a cookie swinging for the moon.

It's fucking exasperating to watch.

27 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:16 pm

Oh! I stand corrected, I thought that was strike three!

Well hot damn and call me Sally!

28 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:17 pm

Wow!

And just like that!

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:23 pm

Not too shabby.

30 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:24 pm

I don't know how Chavez hit that ball so well. Damn.

31 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:31 pm

Chavez really looks like Mattingly, the way he finishes off his swing on balls he hammers to left.

There's some little motion at the end, something with his neck, I don't know, just recalls Mattingly.

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:34 pm

Get well, Brett.

33 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:34 pm

Jesus.

34 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:36 pm

[32] No fucking kidding. I'm sick of this, already, what the fuck is he doing, picking his ass? Get the fuck back here, Brett!

35 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:42 pm

Whoo hoo!

36 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:42 pm

I've always liked Boone Logan

37 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:43 pm

Nice work, Boooooooone.

38 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:43 pm

[36] hahahahahaahhahHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

39 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jun 23, 2012 8:43 pm

[31] I am glad someone else thinks so. : )

40 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 23, 2012 9:06 pm

Oh fuck.

41 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2012 9:12 pm

Oh, yes!

42 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 23, 2012 9:15 pm

Missed the excitement! But game thread capturing the vibe, thanks!

43 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 23, 2012 9:37 pm

That was immensely enjoyable. I turned it on at a good time: 6th inning. Saw Nova get lifted and then the come-back.

For the record, I had MLB working nice (a rarity) So I was afraid to open any more windows.

It would be wonderful to knock Dickey off his throne tomorrow, wouldn't it?

44 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 23, 2012 9:43 pm

[11] Charlie is the go to "actor who knows about sports."

Downstairs the wife had a movie on staring Chuck Connors...former Celtic, Dodger and Cub.

45 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 24, 2012 4:35 am

[44] Really? You'd think they could do better than a drug-infested booze-hound but then again, it's FOX so...

46 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 24, 2012 4:37 am

[45] You know, that's real mean and unfair of me. I know guys who battle drug abuse..it's a nasty, brutal thing to deal with. Good luck fighting it, Charlie. But stay off my baseball broadcasts! :)

47 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 24, 2012 6:09 am

[46] Battling? Maybe he just likes doing drugs and has no intention of stopping. Would that be so horrible? Beware of labels, Jazz Boy.

48 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 24, 2012 6:23 am

[47] Boat, I just finished reading Art Pepper (alto sax player) memoirs "Straight Life". Absolutely harrowing portrait of drug abuse and what it makes a person like. Smoking a doobie now and then for fun and addicts like Pepper or Sheen..huge difference. Their lives are hell. No labels necessary.

49 RIYank   ~  Jun 24, 2012 6:52 am

Tim McCarver said Eric Chavez' homer would have been foul in the old Stadium. Yeah, I think the angle at home plate was only about 85 degrees.

It must be quite an experience to be Tim McCarver.

50 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 24, 2012 7:28 am

[48] All I'm saying is "don't judge." Every person is different. Three beers gets you high. Three beers gets me straight. Everybody is different. I'm not standing up for Charlie, but I am in no position to crucify him and neither are you.

51 Boatzilla   ~  Jun 24, 2012 7:34 am

[48] Yo, and Charlie has never said his life is hell. He was digging it. Where'd you hear that?

I've seen all kinds of addiction "nasty" in my own family (multiple suicides and incarceration) and with friends, but there is no formula, no right and wrong, there's only case by case, each person an individual with individual issues.

And you have no right to judge anyone unless you have personally been down that road. Actually, how dare you!
