Pretzel Logic

Yanks aim to not suck this afternoon in Cleveland.

We believe this can be achieved.

So, never mind the sermon: Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Yankees need a steely resolve to da(m)n the losing streak to 1 game.

From what I can see, Bsston ONLY paid $11m in the big trade. LA got better, but they got fleeced. Unbelievably, Boston fans seem overjoyed with this trade. They will miss AGon, but understabd that they not only got out from under, but actually got some young talent in return.

But of course...
it's only the Yankees that throw money around.

If strikes are not called strikes Freddie is screwed.

4 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:31 pm

Gripping baseball entertainment.

5 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:37 pm

Oh no! Penalty, right?

6 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:38 pm

Oh, huh. We're allowed to get one of those base hit things even when there's a runner on second?? I hope the rest of the team knows.

7 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:42 pm

Nick knows about the new rule!

8 seamus   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:46 pm

i'm bewildered. what happened in the top of the second? It looked like we got three runners in without any home runs but I think that must be my cold hammering my brain.

9 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:51 pm

Good quick tag. Out at second.

10 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:52 pm

[8] Yeah, turns out there's no actual rule against getting a hit with a man on second.

Got 'em. Good day for Chris Stewart so far.

11 seamus   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:59 pm

61 pitches so far to get 6 outs. i like that.

12 seamus   ~  Aug 26, 2012 12:59 pm

bleh, grandy has been off.

13 seamus   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:01 pm

[11] i'm officially positive that i jinxed that. i mean, after i posted that they got 3 outs in like 3 pitches or something.

14 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:07 pm

Oh, Robbie. You jack ass.

15 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:07 pm

Boooooo, Rob.

16 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:16 pm

Oh, that was strike three.
Blind bum.

17 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:17 pm

Good work, Fred, good work.

18 seamus   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:20 pm

so is tampa not playing today because of the republican convention? or the tropiical storm? or both? so weird for someone not to play on a Sunday.

19 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:22 pm

[18] Hot air mass, for sure.

20 seamus   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:23 pm

this ichiro guy is ok.

21 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:24 pm

Stewart got a meatball and decided to just roll it off the floor.

22 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:29 pm

[21] On top of spa-GHEEEEEEEE-ti....

23 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:31 pm

The on the field scene after Chambliss hit that homer will never cease to amaze me. Some dude snatched first base away a second after he rounded it. Madness!

24 rbj   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:45 pm

[16] Been out doing yard work. Even the Indians' announcer thought so to.

Looks like I missed all the action.

[18] Why wouldn't baseball schedule them to be out of town at this time? The convention has been known about for a year at least.

Afternoon all!

Looks like Fat Freddy's in fine filth flinging form today!

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:50 pm

Now look what I've done.

27 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:51 pm

Easy, Fred. Just keep it down, no prob.

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:53 pm

Urgh.

29 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:53 pm

Big pitch here, full count to Choo...

Damn, this doesn't feel good at all.

Go get 'im, Fred! One more out, please.

30 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:53 pm

Ugh.

31 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:54 pm

Wonderful. Fred's only good for 4+. Bloody hell.

32 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 1:55 pm

He's not throwing badly. The double bounced freakishly off the bag, then HBP, then a tough walk, now a ground ball single. I'd let him pitch to another batter.

Oh well. Platoon Joe, figures.

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Aug 26, 2012 2:04 pm

Dandy, Grandy!!!

34 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 2:04 pm

Whoo hoo Curtis. Man, he threw his bat like he missed it.

35 rbj   ~  Aug 26, 2012 2:59 pm

That was close. Too close.

36 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 2:59 pm

You got lucky, Joe. You too, Soriano. Yikes.

37 rbj   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:15 pm

Wowzers.

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:15 pm

Watch your lips. Holy shit that was close.

39 thelarmis   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:16 pm

wha happened?

40 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:17 pm

Whew.
Soriano is growing on me.

41 seamus   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:18 pm

phew we survive!

42 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:18 pm

Game over.
[39] Line shot right back at Soriano's head. He got his glove up just in time. Knocked it down, picked it and go the out at first. Scary.

43 rbj   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:18 pm

Smash comebacker right to Soriano. His glove was up so it hit that then ricocheted off his pitching hand/wrist.

Have to wait for a medical report. Least we got the win.

44 RIYank   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:20 pm

On the WCBS postgame he told Suzyn he's fine. "Right now, I'm okay."

45 thelarmis   ~  Aug 26, 2012 3:24 pm

whew, indeed!

thanks guys. wish i coulda been around with youze over the interesting and eventful weekend.

unfortunately, the shit sox unloaded a boatload of dough (what were the dodgers thinking???) and are winning right now.

i have faith in them to find new lows...

46 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 26, 2012 8:18 pm

[45] Yo thelarmis! What's shaking?

Only in the new baseball universe could Boston cmopletely acknowledging failure, blowing up their team and taking prospects (prospects!!) be considered a "winning move". 'Eff that, Yanks would never give up like that.

47 Chyll Will   ~  Aug 26, 2012 11:01 pm

[46] A fine example of today's post title. Don't lose that number, OK Tikki Tavi >;)

48 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 27, 2012 1:40 am

[47] D'oh! :)

But really..I spent way too much time reading Fangraphs and others about market efficiency, cost certainty, etc etc. It's all fine but still..Dodgers made their team better for the next couple of years. Who cares about the money?
