The Rays need to sweep to remain in mathematically. I just hope they take the 1st game, or else they might not show up for games 2 & 3.

Time for the Yanks to make a dreadful season that much worse and put their foot on Bobby V's throat.

Bobby might need his groucho disguise to leave Fenway come Wednesday night.

Let's go Yan-Kees!!!

2 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 3:48 pm

Just make the other guy blink first.

3 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 1, 2012 3:59 pm

1) Agreed and 2) Hell yeah.

Let's GO YANK-EES!!!!!

4 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 4:49 pm

[1] Oakland would have to lose too. I'm sure Texas will fight hard.

5 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 5:02 pm

Oh, and clinching a play in WC spot is clinching a warm bucket of spit.

6 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:07 pm

While Laptops can pitch a very good game, this already horrible Red Sox lineup is also missing Pedroia AND Ellsbury.

I hate to set us up, but really....
If we lose this game, we should demand a Yankees mass suicide.

1.Pedro Ciriaco – 2B
2.Daniel Nava – LF
3.Cody Ross – RF
4.Mauro Gomez – 1B
5.Ryan Lavarnway – DH
6.Jarrod Saltalamacchia – C
7.Danny Valencia – 3B
8.Che-Hsuan Lin – CF
9.Jose Iglesias – SS

I mean, how many of those guys did you know were baseball players?

7 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:07 pm

I think Tampa will play hard even when eliminated. I just can't see Maddon lying down. (I mean, figuratively -- of course I cannot literally see him lying down. Right now.)

8 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:07 pm

How bad is that lineup?
Players in Seattle are ROFL!

9 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:09 pm

Doesn't Ichiro look like he's doing a little 'soft shoe' when he catches fly balls?

10 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:10 pm

RIYank is here!
RIYank is here!

You can now count on updates on the Red Sox game!

11 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:13 pm

Four Red Sox below .200.

12 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:13 pm

[10] We're the only fans in New England watching this game.

13 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:14 pm

The thing is, Clay Buchholz is good. So, the Yankees can't do that thing where they get two guys on and then fail to score. Because Cody Ross might hit a home run or something.

14 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:15 pm

This Red Sox lineup leaves me with one feeling.

15 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:21 pm

How about a break out from ARod. Guess ChangeUp....

16 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:25 pm

What in the hell was A-Rod doing in that last at bat?

17 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:26 pm

[15] I'm not sure the Yankees could hit a changeup with a personalized invitation.

18 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:30 pm

Satalamacchia .187 with RISP? Sign him up!

19 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:31 pm

I'll always remember Valencia as the guy the Twins made wear the Borat suit on hazing day

20 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:32 pm

Danny Valencia's OBP is lower than his batting average. That's very unusual.

21 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:34 pm

[20] No walks and a sac fly will do that.

22 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:35 pm

Looks like we got our playoff line up tonight. Except maybe Ibanez at DH?

23 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:36 pm

HOORAY!

24 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:36 pm

KABOOM!

25 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:37 pm

Cano. Is. Smokin'.

26 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:39 pm

I was at the game when Russell Branyan hit the restaurant. That's a poke.

27 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:39 pm

[21] Right, the only way is to have more sac flies than walks. So... it's very unusual!

28 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:43 pm

Yes. Atta boy, Granderson! : )

29 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:43 pm

Grandy!

30 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:43 pm

Oh boy.

31 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:44 pm

Strike out this! [clutching his nutsack]

32 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:44 pm

Belly to belly

33 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:44 pm

Review time.

34 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:44 pm

That might be fan interference

35 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:45 pm

Belly to Belly!

36 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:45 pm

Belly to belly! Uh oh.

37 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:45 pm

I still think it's a homer.

38 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:45 pm

We need the replacement umps

39 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:47 pm

No indisputable evidence

40 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:47 pm

Fuck you Valentine - enjoy your last 3 days as a MLB manager

41 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:47 pm

[32] Great minds...

42 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:49 pm

I think it *probably* would have hit the wall and rolled in.

43 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:50 pm

[40] Shhhhh.

I'm really hoping he comes back next year. All of RSN assumes he's gone.

44 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:53 pm

To be honest, I preferred Buchholz's father, Horst, in 1-2-3 and Judgment at Nuremberg

45 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:53 pm

[43] I really, really dislike him, so I'd love to see him fail, get fired and slink away in humiliation.

At the same time, I'd love to see him continue to run the Sox into the ground

46 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:58 pm

[45] Right, I pretty much agree. It would be nice if he could be cloned, so both things could happen.

It will be more fun in my world, though, with him as skipper. It'll drive the locals nuts.

47 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:58 pm

C'mon, Alex. Do something good!

48 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:58 pm

Alex Cobb loses his no-hitter in the fourth inning. Still no score.

49 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:59 pm

Do we resign Ichiro if he is cheap (and he should be)?
I would love to have Gritner bat 9th and then Ichiro lead off.

50 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 1, 2012 6:59 pm

Good enough.

51 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:00 pm

Damn, that sounded like three runs off the bat. Just one.

52 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:00 pm

[49] Where do they both fit in the lineup?

53 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:00 pm

Even though it IS the Sux (and CC), why do I pray we get some more runs here.

54 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:01 pm

Like that!

55 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:01 pm

Fucking AWESOME!

56 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:01 pm

That's more like it.

57 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:01 pm

Touchdown!!!

58 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:01 pm

[46] Com'mon Dude. How much fun will it be for us next year if Valentine is still in Boston? (Although I did like that clone idea!).

59 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:02 pm

I'm loving this. Buh bye Clay. See you next year.

60 randym77   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:03 pm

Holy cow. Looks like I missed a lot, tuning in late.

Buccholz gone already...

61 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:05 pm

This is true. But what will Ichiro command? $3m? More? Let Grandy go and put that $10m to Swisher, or pitching? Anyway, he would probably be a 4th OFer. Rest Teix and have Swish at 1B. Pinch runner. LIDR for Swish?

I don't know. I just like the guy. And it would be fun to occasionally see him and Gritner on base at the same time.

62 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:05 pm

Poor Ace.

Valentine loathes Aceves. This is a punishment.

63 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:06 pm

I like baseball.

64 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:06 pm

[61] was for [52].
TEIXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX1

FOUR HOME RUNS IN ONE INNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

65 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:07 pm

Mark's back! Touchdown and a safety.

66 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:07 pm

OK - its not funny anymore (actually it is and I'm laughing my nuts off)

67 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:07 pm

THAT's what I'm talkin' about!

68 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:07 pm

[64] That's got to be a record?

69 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:08 pm

Zobrist!

70 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:09 pm

Shit!
That would have been the record.

71 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:10 pm

TB up 1-0.

72 OsRavan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:11 pm

I really hope tb can hold on to this (and oakland loses to let them keep some hope alive)

73 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:11 pm

OH NO!!!!!!!!
It's the Rope-a-dope trick.
The Sox are trying to tire out our batters arms!

74 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:16 pm

I'm very glad CC is our guy. Man. What was the last real ace we had before him?

75 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:19 pm

I'm watching NESN (you too Old Yank Fan, I assume). We're watching Jenny Dell interview Teixeira. Great job, Jenny.

Also, NESN has shown Jeter a lot. They like Jeter.

76 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:19 pm

Just noticed the "Strike Out" message on the Stadium scoreboard uses three exclamation points. That is cheesy. What happened to mystic?

77 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:20 pm

Nice short inning for CC.

78 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:20 pm

Take CC out!

79 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:21 pm

Might need an all hands on deck game in the next few, so llet the minor leaguers finish off these minor leaguers

80 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:22 pm

[78] Hm. Interesting. You may have a point.

81 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:22 pm

[79] And we could need him Thursday, is what I was thinking.

82 mhoward120   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:24 pm

The problem is - what is Coffee Joe thinking?

83 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:25 pm

[79] Give him five inning for the W. Also take Derek out for his ankle.

84 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:30 pm

WE'RE DOOMED!

85 OsRavan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:30 pm

CC probably goes for 5 is my guess. Then pull him out in case you need him on short rest later.

86 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:32 pm

[85] Meaning Friday.
But the thing is, it's starting to look unlikely that we'll have to play Friday, unless they have to play Thursday...

Welcome to Bronx Banter, by the way!

87 OsRavan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:38 pm

its way too premature to say its 'unlikely.' The tb/bal game is way too early to call... and nor can we guarantee we will sweep boston. TBH unless we are actually *up* a game on baltimore I would have to say it seems pretty likely. Heh call me pessimistic, but 1-0 TB isnt making me think the orioles will lose. I mean hell a base hit right now ties that game.

Also thanks for the welcome. Ive actually been here for years but never posted much.

88 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:40 pm

RIPPER!!!

89 OsRavan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:40 pm

also to add if the yanks tack on a couple of runs you might as well take CC out after five just in case (and hopefully that doesnt jinx anything).

90 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:43 pm

[87] Yeah, it's unlikely. And no, it's not too early to say that.

You are correct, we cannot guarantee that we will sweep Boston. 'Unlikely' does not mean 'impossible', though, so that's irrelevant.

If, as seems most likely, we are one game up at midnight tonight, then for the Yankees to have to play Friday without playing Thursday, they have to lose both remaining games while the Orioles win both their remaining games. That is very, very unlikely.

91 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:44 pm

I would not let CC back on the mound tonight, personally. I think Jon is right. If they had just let Freddy pitch after the nine, CC would have been available for Thursday, I bet. And that's a legit possibility, that they'll play Thursday.

92 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:48 pm

I missed all the fireworks, wow!

Robinson now has 80 XBH on the season..and to think some people still debated who the best 2B in the game is.

93 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:50 pm

[75] Jenny Dell......... donuts.

94 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:51 pm

Matt Wieters ties it up.

95 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:52 pm

Wieters just hit one the cheapest homers ever.

96 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:52 pm

Orsillo and Remy taking about food the entire inning.

97 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:53 pm

[75] I like Jenny Dell a lot. Wonder if she owuld jump to YES next year?

98 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:55 pm

[97] I think we'd have to give up a prospect.
[96] They'd like Bronx Banter, huh? Maybe not the hip-hop.

99 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:56 pm

Pedro Beato?

100 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 1, 2012 7:57 pm

Hmm. CC looked like a man who was done for night, but no one's in the bullpen yet.

102 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:00 pm

RI... ya think the boys in the Red Sox booth are into this game?

103 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:02 pm

Nope, CC's back out.

104 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:02 pm

Longoria scores on a sac fly!

I just lost my heart to Ben Francisco.

105 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:06 pm

[102] They haven't been into a whole lot of games this season. Who can blame them? But I'm watching the Rays crew on MLBN right now.

106 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:07 pm

Nice chopper over Mark Reynolds by Sam Folds, and Tampa has 1st and 3rd again, now with one out.

107 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:09 pm

Crud, Ryan Roberts pops out. Still a shot thought with two away, runners in the corners, seventh inning, Rays ahead 2-1.

108 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:10 pm

Two run double for Chris Giminez!!!

4-1 Rays!

You can thank me later when I get my Kickstarter appeal set up. :)

111 rbj   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:22 pm

CC does not need to be out there. Put the AAA guys out there.

112 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:22 pm

Joe Maddon is really, really into the game. That's good to see.

Put Nova in for CC.

118 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:30 pm

124 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:34 pm

I believe (not sure about this) Phelps is the AL ERA leader. Really.

Also, James Shields tomorrow.

145 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2012 8:50 pm

I'm very disappointed in this game. Not enough RISP fail. No Mix 'n' Match. No weird "I giving him a rest" moves. No AAA line up. What's gotten in to G.I. Joe and the team?

[138] Hee Haw showcased some great talent, dude. I never understood why my Dad (who was a Big Band fan), watched it, but in hindsight I'm glad he did.

Game on in Oakland. Let's go Texas!

210 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2012 9:21 pm

[209] Wait, why we rooting for Tejas tonight? Don't we want the best recrod and #1 'seed'?

211 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2012 9:22 pm

[210] I do. But OYF wants Oakland to lose so the Rays still have a shot at the second wild card spot tomorrow, so they'll go all-out to beat the Orioles...

212 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2012 9:27 pm

[211] Too much free jazz and 'herbal diet" in my youth, boulders rolling round brain with this complex end of season..I think finishing the season with the best record is the most impressive achievement.

Also, Cano could get 50 doubles and 30 taters, how coolw ould that be!

213 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 10:10 pm

[212] It's simple. TB has to Sweep 3 (they have already won the first) and Oakland has to lose 3 in order for TB to make the PS, or more importantly, motivated to beat Baltimore.

Now, if Oakland Loses tonight, then TB still has a mathimatical shot, and should come out tomorrow guns blazing against Baltimore.

Now if instead, Oakland Wins tonight, then TB is done. They may not lay down for Baltimore, but let's face it, they will be mucho deflated.

For me, Winning the Division is 100 times more important the beating Texas for Home Field.

THE PERFECT STORM.
Oakland Loses tonight.

TB beats Baltimore tomorrow.
We beat the Sox tomorrow and CLINCH the Division.
Oakland beats Texas tomorrow.

Now at this point, with 1 game to play, we have Home field over Texas. (If we tie Texas, we win Home field, as we won the season series with them).

So, If we then Win our last game, or Texas loses their last game,
we keep Home field.

214 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 1, 2012 10:45 pm

[213] Problem is with the best record, you have to play the first round against the winner of the WC play-in game beginning at their stadium. Do we want the Yankees to fly to Oakland to start the PS? I think the Yankees are better off playing Detroit in the first round even with Verlander starting game 1 and 5. The Yankees hit 4 HRs and had nearly a .300 average against him this year.

215 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 1, 2012 11:33 pm

[214] Well (hopefully) the WC will be Oakland OR Baltimore. The O's/A's playoff game will be in Oakland.

I still think Home Court is an advantage, but my whole thing is to just Win the Division. After that, I'm not sure if what happens after that is a disadvantage one way oor the other.

Flying to CA is always a bitch, but we will be well rested, while the A's will not.
