"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Opening Dud

Here’s the thingt: Nobody is going to remember this one. Oh, Red Sox fans will for a day or maybe a week (and they’ve got Jackie Bradley, Jr.! to keep them smiling), but for Yankee fans, this one’s already forgotten.

It was a turd of a game to start the year as CC Sabathia was less than wonderful, the offense was offensive, and the bullpen–Joba!–didn’t help matters much.

It ended like: Red Sox 8, Yanks 2.

Ah, fug it. There’s another game tomorrow.

I just woke up to a miserable rainy day, then saw this.
Sigh...

[0] There’s another game tomorrow.

No, there isn't. But at least they won't fall farther below .500!

[2] Well, yeah, but tomorrow there will be. (Another game tomorrow. Sort of.)

It sure was fun watching the 2003 All Stars wearing pinstripes today, huh? (Not that I actually did watch.)

Tomorrow is another day.

But perhaps it is more apt, given the anticipated trajectory of our season, to say:

"Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day

Til the last syllable of recorded time.

And all our yesterdays light fools the way to dusty death.

Out, out, brief candle, life is but a walking shadow,

A poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage

Then is heard no more.

It is a tale told by an idiot,

Full of sound and fury,

Signifying nothing."

[3] It's like every day is Old Timers Day!

[1] Dude feel fortunate you didn't stay up 'til 4:30 AM to watch until the 5th inning. For a while it looked like they might still come back, but I am so glad I didn't stay up for the rest, especially that soul-sucking 7th and the very ugly ending.

Joe is already mixing and matching. Youk starts at first. Nix at 3rd. Then pinch-hitting...and switching around...bleah.

[8] Who was the NFL coach that retired from burnout then came back years later to win a SB with the Rams? Name escapes me now but I can see JoeyJoeJoe actually stepping away this season and coming back after a few years break..guy seems real tightly wound, that cannot be healthy.

[10] Boom! Thanks, SteveF.

Just read the gaem thread, well done Ladies & Gents. Everyone in mid-season form already.

[9] Speaking of burn out, where's Bobby V hiding these days? Man, that was the biggest, ugliest flame out in history.

(Well, not counting some of the Billy The Kid shenanigans)
