Another injured Yankee–Nunie (though it’s apparently not as bad as it first looked)–more mediocre pitching and a pair of blasts by Prince Fielder.
Watching Fielder hit a home run is All-American Funski. For a big guy his bat moves quickly but there is so much force in the whole thing, the swing and follow-through, the twist of his massive body, seeing him unload is both awesome and funny at the same time.
Hasaaaan-Chop!
The Yanks had a brief lead on a homer by Kevin Youkilis but then Boone Logan relieved Ivan Nova, gave up the first of Fielder’s home runs and it was all downhill from there.
Final Score: Tigers 8, Yanks 3.
I didn't even know there was a game this afternoon. Apparently I didn't miss much. I certainly feel no loss in having missed it.
[1] I like Prince Fielder so will cue up the highlights of his taters. Then move on to my National League love, the Washington Nationals..
I was coming home from Niagara Falls today and one of the radio dudes said Sterling's call for Ugly was "a nukey from Youkey." Oof. That's terrible. Glad I didn't see a second of today's game. Cripes!
Sterling has his work cut out for him this year with all the new guys in the lineup. "A nukey from Youkey". Yeah - that's rough.
Not a big Prince Fielder fan. Too much hot dog for me.
Yanks tied with the Jays in suck-a-tude.
Nova sucks, and doesn't seem to even care that he sucks.
[4] What's with Sterling's obsession with nuclear bombs. The "A-Bomb from A-Rod" was tasteless enough with Matsui on the team. Now we have Ichiro and Kuroda. Poor form, dude, poor form.
What's he got for Gardner? "Gardy goes yardy!"
[7] Sterling plays to the yokel crowd who enable him; there's really no checks and balances for him at this point unless he says something that's egregiously incorrect like misquoting a rule in the rulebook or stating unequivocally that Milwaukee is in Delaware. Suzyn is a smart woman, but she doesn't do much to keep him in check either; maybe thinking about the last two or three guys who did try. I understand the indignation, but his fans seem to drown out common sense (if such a thing exists).
Ok, I had this S.W.A.T. single as a kid. This post makes me happy enough to put up with a 90 loss Yankee team. Thank you Alex!
