A Very Funny Fellow

Nice piece at the A.V. Club on Bob Newhart’s most famous record.

Not just his most famous record - arguably the most important comedy album ever - the game changer! Comedy albums were treated very differently after the surprise success of Newhart's lp. The golden era of comedy albums of the 60s-80s might not have happened without it. The comics still would have been great, but who knows if the record companies would have been so tuned in.

Also, it's really funny.

It's true. First comedy record to be a number 1 album. Took the whole genre in a new direction.
