Three day week-end! (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap)
Huge series this weekend. Too bad about the Sat and Sun matinees, which I'll miss. Those games are worthy of national primetime treatment - even if it meant us having to suffer Fox and ESPN coverage.
(1) What is it about Joe Buck that anybody can stand?
[2] Ummmmm.
...
....
......
There must be something!
.

.
.
His shoes, maybe? Cologne?
I know: his father!
My punctuationally unusual comment is awaiting moderation.
Wordpress is so weird.

LHP CC Sabathia
Efficient.
Good.
Just have to bunt it a little harder.
Fat kid looking good.
Nerts.
Crap.
I'm thinking the team would improve it's chances by getting a fucking hit. I dunno, haven't done the analysis or anything, but that's my gut feeling.
[11] I'm not so sure. Hits are bound up intrinsically with batting average, and we all know how overrated that is.
[11] Which Yankee was it who lost a no-hitter, 4-0, Rudy Davis?
Well there's your hit.
Yeah, baby!
Cashman's Lament!
Who's Sori now?
(That's Sterling's HR call. But he sings it. Really.)
Uh.
There was nobody covering anyway. WTF?
Oh, come on. Goddam it.
CC as long relief man?
Seriously, CC?
Fucking pathetic.
Well this has taken an ugly turn.
Wow, *only* 10 times, it sure seems like more, but I guess the reality is that CC's been such shit this year that the Yankees are always behind.
Sigh.
Okay. ENOUGH. Outs, now.
[13] Andy Hawkins. It remains to this day the only no hitter that I have ever watched as it happened (on TV).
Is Teagarden that bad that it makes sense to have him bunt? Wow, he's terrible. I guess it really does.
Hoo boy.
This feels like about the limit. The Yanks can get a couple of runs, but CC can't give up another Hughes or it's over.
Okay.
Now time to go to work.
[25] Thanks. I did see the end of Cone's & Wells' perfectos, but that & the Astro's 6 pitcher were the only ones I saw from start to finish.
Double, double, toil and trouble...
And there's the trouble!
Come on Robbie. Salami sammich sounds good right now.
Whoa.
We have a chance to put these birds away now. Just the right hitters to do it, too...
Robiwon Cano-bi, the Force is with you!
I'll take it.
Well, we ain't behind NO MORE!!!
Boo, A-Rod!
Time to step up, fat guy.
Yeah, no. Not like that.
Not good start to the inning.
GET SOMEONE UP.
NOW.
For some reason Michael Kay is grating on me more than usual today. I am welcoming Flash's unguent tones.
[41] Nah, he's fine.
[40] Kelley. I suspect CC is done after this inning
No, bad call, I think. That was just a grounder that found a hole.
Damn, this is a mistake.
Oh, my numbering is wrong, sorry. (I have a comment hanging in moderation.)
pull him, Pull Him, PULL HIM.
PULL HIS FAT ASS, NOW!
(41) 'unguent'?
I've got an 'adult headache' just tuning in. What I miss?
Yeah, mistake. CC wasn't struggling.
Too much management.
Good job, Joe.
Hey Fat Man, if you don't want to leave the game before you think it's time, pitch better than Phil Hughes ...
CC needs to put the weight back on, or something. He's becoming Phil Hughes.
Unctuous?
[48] Uh, what?
CC's been garbage the last 2 innings.
Absolutely the right call.
Phew.
Still up by 2.
Time for some tack on runs.
Dammit!
[52] Nah, he was fine. Mistake pitch for the homer. His last batter was just a grounder pasta diving Cano.
I am beginning to dislike this Machado fellow. I suspect he's going to be a thorn in the side of the Yankees for years to come.
[56] In everybody's side.
Ah, Joba is up.
Yeah, good thing Joe pulled CC after 85 pitches. Now we get to see Joba.
Machado on deck.
Joba. Machado. Hm.
[55] Eh. CC's about as reliable as Phil Hughes these days. He deserves about as much of a leash, i.e. none.
Uh, wait, did everyone else miss the part where David Robertson was *also* up?
Aha! D-Rob!
Now that is a good call.
Eh, even if it's Joba, no out, nobody on, with The Hammer up behind him (and coming in to start the next inning, no matter what), no big deal.
Jobber gets ONE guy.
He gets the out, or The Hammer comes in.
Seems good to me.
[61] But why was Joba up at all if the plan was for D-Rob to enter in the seventh? Odd.
Anyway, happy call.
Wait, there's some such thing as "New York Yankees Frozen Pizza" that is available for purchase?
[63] I figured Machado had about a one in three chance of doubling off Joba.
But now it's Robertson for four outs, which in my opinion is the best option, so it worked out.
[64] WHO DARES QUESTION THE BINDER!?!?!?!?
Harumph.
Yeah, probably his hand went past the bag.
Brett doesn't quite have the knack of being a speedster.
I HATE the orioles.
Make 'em Sori...
Oh, chess. I love chess.
Okay. Make 'em regret it, A-Rod.
Our Rod’s better than yooooooooour Rod!
[65] I was as shocked as you were when I reported this to AB a few months ago after spotting it in the frozen food section at the supermarket near where I live. I have not the heart nor stomach to try... without compensation.
All is forgiven, Alex.
[74] Okay, I'll give you a root beer.
Uh.
That was... interesting.
Well that was a shit show. Oi.
How old is Soriano?
HOW LONG has he been playing this fucking game?
Strewth ...
[76] ...what brand?
[80] Stewarts.
There are still Stewarts, right? There was one in Rhode Island but it closed long ago.
[65] Wait. There's fucking frozen pizza in fucking New York?! I've been living on faux pizza all over the country (Hawaiian pizza in Portland Oregon is not the low point) and there's a decent pizza jernt on practically every block in the city and there's fucking frozen pizza?
End times, end times.
[81] There are plenty of Stewarts Shops up in Dutchess County; as many as there are Subway shops in the city. But the shops only sell the plastic bottles; I want glass bottles, and make it a 6-pack.
NAILED.
[83] You drive a hard bargain.
But I guess when you're taking your life (or taste buds) in your hands, you can name your price.
Taking your taste buds in your hands. Yuch.
[82] This will blow your mind then... they also sell a frozen pizza brand called California Kitchen next the New York Yankees pizza... aauuggghhhh!!!!
Okay, Hamma Time. Got 'em right where you want 'em...
What is Valencia waiting for??
Okay, that'll do. Not elegant, but effective.
[85] Yer dern tootin'...
There is a non-frozen brand called Vila Roma that PathMark sells that's not that bad; I mean if you can't get to a decent place or you're trying to save a few dollars. Good pizza is expensive around here now, but worth it to avoid the cheap stuff if you can.
[83] Hmmm, will have to check but The Anderson's here in the mid-west has Stewarts in glass bottles. Weird company. General merchandise store, with a gourmet food & wine & beer section. And their main bizness is grain transportation via railroad.
Hmm, root for a no save situation here?
[92] If I were at the Stadium, I would be secretly hoping Austin would strike out or pop up... Here at home, I'll definitely take the insurance run if he can get it.
The bat didn't matter. He was dead in the water.
This has been one awful day of base running for the Yankees, huh?
Mo time.
Mo time!
[91] There are a lot of corner stores here that sell them in glass bottles and a few supermarkets that sell them in 4-packs; I always found it strange that the Stewarts shops didn't sell their own product the same way, but in inferior plastic bottles instead.
Let's go Mo!!!
They have Stewart's in bottles at some restaurants 'round these parts. I just had a Barq's...
Wish I could watch Mo pitch. It's been a crazy game to follow on my iPhone.
Uno.
Dos.
Dos
Thanks be to Mo.
Praise be to Mo. Fuck yeah!
Trey
Thanks and praise be to Mo!!!
Good win.
Better win would have involved even a DECENT game from CC, but I guess we should be happy for the offense ...
Listening to Suzyn interview Ichiro. It's surreal. She keeps mouthing inanities -- "This time of year, Ichiro, how important is it to do the little things like moving runners along?" -- and he keeps saying his loony shit. "I have to do something or everyone is going to hate me."
(I actually like Suzyn, but this is not her best thing.)
Happy! Good thing because how would the weekend be if the outcome was different. Went to Cooperstown today with my family on the way to Saratoga. My one and only child starts college tomorrow. Many mixed emotions.
Nice, Ken Boyer!
