Mariano Rivera told reporters in Houston that Thursday’s final appearance at Yankee Stadium was the last game of his glorious career.
He will not pitch during the Yankees’ final series of the 2013 season at Minute Maid Park.
“I’m done, guys. I’m done,” Rivera said. “I gave everything that I have. I think Thursday was the game that I left everything on the field.”
“I think I squeezed every ounce of fuel that I have in my tank,” Rivera said. “It’s empty…I have nothing left.”
Rivera also revealed that he had been pitching through “tremendous soreness” in his arm during the 2013 season. He declined to say how long he had been hurt.
“I don’t want to tell you that,” he said. “It’s over.”
