Taster’s Cherce

frantoia

Oh, man. Kottke delivers with this post on how to buy olive oil. It stars Tom Mueller who wrote an absorbing book about olive oil (birthday gift from mom).

I use a basic Fairway brand for cooking and then have a couple of nicer ones for more delicate things like salads. Frantoia does me right though I’m far from an expert.

Interesting story. You can tell a good restaurant by how long it takes them to bring the olive oil when you ask for it.
I wonder if Genco diluted their oil?

Providence has two relatively new olive oil stores. I mean, they do sell some other things, but their raison d'etre is olive oil. They have small barrels with taps, and you can taste and then choose, and they'll fill up a bottle for you and seal it. I like the experience as much as the oil.
