In for Pineda.

2 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 11:56 am

Very excited for Pineda's start.

3 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:08 pm

Liking Tanaka so far, he ain't no fat pussy toad, fer sure ...

4 mhoward120   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:08 pm

Wish McCann could've played a little 1B in Spring Training.
Is Drew any more of a possibility - just for some more depth at least?

5 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:11 pm

I reeeeaaaallly want to see them knock Dickey's pompous ass around the ballpark.

6 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:19 pm

Wow, is it just me, or was that throw from Captain, unexpectedly reaaaaaaally weak?

7 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:20 pm

Rasmus has still got that meth stare, huh?

8 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:22 pm

7) Good call on Rasmus. I think that Lawrie has a real MME vibe to him. Guy must bench-press a case of Red Bull and then drink half of it before each at bat.

9 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:25 pm

Good job, MP. I like the 94 mph fastballs on the outside corner.

10 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:37 pm

When he was on the Mets I swore Thole was cross eyed

11 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:39 pm

What the fuck was that?

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:45 pm

I remain, somewhat inexplicably, really invested in Franky Brains ...

13 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:49 pm

[12] If he continues to improve over past performance when he was the worst defensive catcher in baseball he's a pretty damn good back up.

14 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:51 pm

Oh, boy. SAFE!

15 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:52 pm

I think he did block the plate without the ball, but I'm not sure its clear cut anyway

16 rbj   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:53 pm

he's safe

17 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:53 pm

So replay is a waste of time and they still get it wrong. Sweet.

18 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:58 pm

[13] True, but that's also weird, he had a pretty good defensive reputation coming up through the minors.

Frankly I wonder if the rumors were true and he got ahead of himself and partied a bit too much, too soon ...

19 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 12:59 pm

That was a good inning

20 mhoward120   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:01 pm

So, double-fuckup aside, could Joe have used the Yankee challenge on the safe-out situation right after the umpire-requested challenge?

21 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:02 pm

[18] Eduardo Nunez was the best defensive player in the Yankees system. I don't put too much stock in that.

Regardless, if he's better in 2014 than he was in 2010 and 2011 that's all that matters.

22 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:03 pm

"You're not allowed to go out of your way to hit a catcher" should be called the Buster Posey rule. That's still the worst I've ever seen

23 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:11 pm

Pineda is such a weird looking dude. He's 3 parts and none of them make any sense in any combination ...

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:18 pm

Nice combo work there from Frankie Brains and Port Jervis!

25 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:19 pm

Dickey's a douche.

26 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:22 pm

I'm not sure I want to see MLB add a run on a reversal several innings later.

27 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:24 pm

Ooh, that looked low

28 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:30 pm

Alright, Snozzberry. Steal on the first pitch.

29 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:31 pm

Taco!

30 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:32 pm

The one rule change I've always wanted is that "showing bunt" counts as a swing. I don't understand why it doesn't

31 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:33 pm

Even better.

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:37 pm

No need to send the runners on 3-2. That would have been stupid.

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:37 pm

Bah, DICKey.

34 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:39 pm

I really hate when Dickey does well

35 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:43 pm

If nothing else Pineda looks really good

36 rbj   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:44 pm

Pineda's looking good.

37 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:45 pm

Helluva start by Pineda. C'mon, offense. For fuck's sake!

38 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:46 pm

Looking good!
Looking weird doing it, but ...

39 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:49 pm

Came for the Pineda ... and even though he seemed a little off, he did not disappoint!

40 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:50 pm

Dammit, that deserved to be a hit for McCann ...

41 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:51 pm

If Big Pine Tree can be 3/4 of the pitcher we hoped for when he was signed, then the rotation looks as good as anyone's.
[33] [34] why the hate for RA?

42 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:52 pm

Frankie FUCKING Brains!

43 rbj   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:55 pm

Ouch!

44 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:57 pm

[41] I've always found him to be an arrogant pompous ass. The kind of guy so concerned with showing everyone how smart he is that he needs to drop all sorts of ten dollar words into sports interviews

45 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:57 pm

I hate seeing that image of white haired Donahue running out of the dugout, it's never a good thing.

46 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 1:58 pm

grrrrrrrrrrr

47 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:01 pm

Hey, Team. Just caught the last inning or two but Pineda looks sharp, huh? Nice little slider.

48 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:03 pm

Atta boy! Love the lefty walk specialist.

49 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:04 pm

Moderation? hmmmm

50 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:07 pm

Have I ever mentioned how much I love the lefty no out guy?

51 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:10 pm

Hey, Ken Griffey back at first!

52 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:17 pm

Good start. Let's go here.

53 seamus   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:19 pm

c'mon captain!

54 seamus   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:22 pm

ok that'll work.

55 RIYank   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:22 pm

Here we go, this is gonna be the big inning.

56 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:22 pm

Er...uh, why wasn't that a strike?

57 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:26 pm

I hate this game.

58 seamus   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:27 pm

we really need to push something across here.

59 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:27 pm

PINCH HIT NOW!

60 seamus   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:27 pm

damn it gameday, why do your ads work better than your core functionality?

61 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:31 pm

Fail.

62 rbj   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:31 pm

Oy.

63 RIYank   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:31 pm

GODDAMIT.

64 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:31 pm

Yeah, that wasn't a shock.

65 seamus   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:31 pm

yuk. Solarte is our only hope.

66 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:32 pm

Not cool Fonzie.

67 thelarmis   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:32 pm

what the fuck are you swinging at, Sori???

holy fuck.

68 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:33 pm

In all these years, Sori is still helpless against that slider low and away. Le plus ca change...

69 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:36 pm

Hey thelarmis! I read a thread of a game I missed, Congratulations! Two drummers, two teachers ...your kids should be a trip!

70 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:37 pm

Phelps isn't very good at this

71 rbj   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:37 pm

Le sigh

72 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:37 pm

Of course.

73 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:37 pm

Fucking Melky!

74 RIYank   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:38 pm

Phelps is now officially the worst pitcher on the team. I wonder if Joe is going to get a weird crush on him.

75 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:38 pm

Ugh, Melke goes take that for letting Cano go.

76 seamus   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:39 pm

i hate melky now and I hate when he does well. The whole lame drugs subterfuge thing soured me completely.

77 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:39 pm

I don't like this.

78 rbj   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:40 pm

Jeebus mtterfluker!

79 RIYank   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:40 pm

Wow, he really sucks.

80 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:40 pm

When did Phil Hughes return?

81 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:40 pm

Jesus Christ Phelps. Put it on a tee why don't ya.

82 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:40 pm

Okay, lets stop using David Phelps in the late innings

83 seamus   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:41 pm

yeesh, phelps implosion.

84 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:41 pm

Don't feel so bad about Fonzie's failure.

85 RIYank   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:41 pm

So does this help Joe get over his Phelps thing, or is he thinking, "Poor guy, he's having a rough time, we'll get him right back on that horse so he can prove to himself that he's got the stuff."

86 thelarmis   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:41 pm

i tuned in at a really bad time!

87 thelarmis   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:42 pm

[68] Thanks, KB!!! : )

88 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:43 pm

In some ways I'm kinda glad we're not gonna lose because the ump blew a call with the benefit of replay.

89 thelarmis   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:43 pm

i don't have much time to catch up.

Pineda looked good?

90 thelarmis   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:43 pm

[87] uh-oh. wha happened?

91 RIYank   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:45 pm

[88] Yes, very good.
[81] 'Late innings' = after the third inning, say.

92 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:46 pm

[87] Cervelli was safe at home (but called out) on a play where Thole tried to block the plate without the ball. Call upheld.

93 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:47 pm

[88] Pineda looked real good. Fun to watch. Its early enough that we can take moral victories too.

94 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:48 pm

[88].Big Pine Tree looked great!

95 rbj   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:49 pm

I hate Rasmus

96 thelarmis   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:50 pm

lucky catch ; )

97 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:50 pm

Sol Man!

98 thelarmis   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:51 pm

thanks for the 411, guys.

[91] yeah, i've seen that already in another game - catcher blocking the plate and it not being called...

99 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:51 pm

It seems Port Jervis went to the crossroads.

100 thelarmis   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:53 pm

He done changed his name to Scratch!

Okay, just win tomorrow. Can't lose two series to two bad teams to start the year.

102 rbj   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:55 pm

Well I do have the Mud Hens tonight.

103 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:55 pm

Bollocks! At least Pineda was solid.

104 RIYank   ~  Apr 5, 2014 2:58 pm

Oh well.

105 jjmerlock   ~  Apr 5, 2014 3:10 pm

I thought Pineda looked excellent. Really nice fastball velocity - if he keeps that up, he's going to be damn solid.

Soriano, Beltran, and Phelps, not so much.
