My little Tacoma has about 12 tapes still inside the armrest thingamabobber. Most of them from the early 90's. Definitely has a few mixed tapes in there as well. I can't play them b/c I've had a tape stuck in the deck since about 06. I love the left right volume slides on the Sony Walkman. Good times. My yellow one is in a box somewhere at my parents house.
[1] i had an earlier version of the yellow one, without radio. i absolutely adored it! my grandpa got it for me for chanunkah in 7th grade. i used it all the way throughout college and into grad school! i think i still have it in a box, 'coz i couldn't get myself to throw it away : )
[4] The wife made me buy replacements for hers until the cost hit around $200. They she "allowed" me to buy a walkman CD player for her. I've been trying to get her onto MP3- she stayed with Books on (cassette) tape until the library ran out of 'em, then Books on CD (some still left, but the CD players are becoming harder to find). Trying to get her to move to downloads (free from the library, let alone audiobooks). No soap yet.
i'm similar. i finally got the CD walkman when i went on tour. i'm still a CD guy. only reason i just learned how to download songs from itunes, was for a college "Critical Listening" class i'm teaching.
but i have all of my music available as downloads online, 'coz i know most people prefer that.
yet, vinyl is making a big comeback! well, i guess it has been for awhile now...
My personal favorite was the Sport.

Big shout out to all the other kids who made mixtapes exclusively by dubbing off 92.3 and old 102.7
