From lohud:
" Just before I hit, “Post,” it was announced that Jacoby Ellsbury has been scratched with flu-like symptoms. Brett Gardner will move to play center and Zoilo Almonte will start in left. Almonte will bat ninth and everyone else moves up a spot."

Get it together David. 3 games in two days is going to tax the bullpen.

3 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:17 pm

This is torture.
Just let them hit the freaking ball, Phelpsy. No more nibbling.
Lord.

Yes, like that! Good!

4 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 3:21 pm

Cap'n!

5 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:23 pm

Yes!

6 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 3:23 pm

MARK!!!

7 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:24 pm

I swear, I was thinking, "The main possibilities here are GIDP and 2-run homer." I knew it wasn't true, probability-wise, but that's how it seemed.

8 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:25 pm

Hey, by the way, get over that flu-like thing soon, Jacoby, would you please?

9 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:26 pm

Hm, that bunting thing is awesome. But it seems unfair, so please let's stop.

Tex go boom!

No Internet yet at the new house, so I can't watch this weekend...

11 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:31 pm

Phelpsy, for god's sake. Strikes. Begging.

12 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 3:33 pm

[8] I'll try

13 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:33 pm

Excruciating.

I wonder who our fourth inning guy will be.

14 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:39 pm

Attaboy, Phelpsy! See: strikes, good!

15 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 3:41 pm

Phelps bounces back

16 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:42 pm

No hits, and he's only thrown fifty pitches in the first two innings!

17 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 3:49 pm

Over at hardballtalk Joe Posnanski has a long piece that in part goes over the glacial pace of today's game:
http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/17/no-runs-no-hits-no-action/

First part of it deals with the lack of action in today's game.

18 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 3:50 pm

A one pitch out?

19 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:52 pm

Do you think he's learning from this positive reinforcement? Strikes -> quick outs -> more innings for Phelpsy. Get it?

2-0 to McCutcheon. He doesn't get it.

20 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:54 pm

[17] Hey, if the opposing pitcher wants to walk all of our guys on 3-2 counts after four fouls, I'll take it. It's just when our pitcher does it that it's excruciating.

At least that one to McCutcheon was an efficient five-pitch walk.

21 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 3:56 pm

That's better.

22 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:56 pm

I apologize to Andrew for giving him an unwanted 'o' in his surname.

Yes! Strikes! Phelpsy!

Let's hope he's turned the page on the nibbling.

23 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:59 pm

I have to go. And I won't have internet, so radio for me. Maybe the 28 pitch innings will be less painful if I'm just listening to them.

24 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:59 pm

Oh my god!

25 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 3:59 pm

Good thing I stayed just that little extra moment...

26 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:00 pm

Wow, Zoilo crushed that.

27 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:00 pm

woah, almonte. Didn't expect that. Was it a big shot? I'm stuck with gameday since i'm in Pittsburgh. MLB.tv blacked out.

28 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:00 pm

[26] I guess that answers my question. Pretty cool.

29 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:03 pm

[27] Over the Model's sign in the bleachers.

30 RIYank   ~  May 17, 2014 4:04 pm

[27] Over the Modells sign. And about a mile high.

But really, now I'm leaving. I'm tagging in Seamus.

31 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:09 pm

[30] ha, i'll do my best to urge phelps to throw strikes.

32 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:09 pm

[29] and [30] thanks btw!

33 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:11 pm

I remember Ron Davis.

34 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:12 pm

[33] is I davis his son or something?

35 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:12 pm

Thanks

36 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:13 pm

[34] Yup.

That caught stealing was huge.

37 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:14 pm

phew. glad we caught marte stealing.

38 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:14 pm

[36] ah ok. Thanks!

39 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:14 pm

Gunned down at the plate!

40 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:15 pm

Phelps probably has a pitch limit? With 74 I might think 6 innings are doable but not if he is capped at 90 or something.

Wow, Sori with the assist!

41 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:19 pm

way to swing there brian!

42 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:33 pm

c'mon Phelps. Buckle down. We need you to get through the 5th.

43 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:34 pm

Pick off!

44 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:35 pm

Oh, wait.

45 seamus   ~  May 17, 2014 4:35 pm

wow! a pick off!

46 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:38 pm

Dang, but the right call.

47 UK yankee fan   ~  May 17, 2014 4:41 pm

Is it just me, or does Phelps need to work on his negative body language?

48 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:44 pm

Houdini!

49 coleman42   ~  May 17, 2014 4:45 pm

[47] agree. Announcers actually commented during Thursday game when Phelps smiled with Whitley after he got his hit.

50 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 4:54 pm

Who are you and what have you done with Betances?

51 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 5:04 pm

Now that's better.

52 cult of basebaal   ~  May 17, 2014 5:07 pm

55 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 5:52 pm

Brian joins the party!

56 rbj   ~  May 17, 2014 6:02 pm

Sweet win!

57 cult of basebaal   ~  May 17, 2014 6:03 pm
