Phelps is on the mound as the Yanks try to win the series against the Indians tonight in Cleveland.

BoSox have no base runners through four, against Quintano.
Walk, walk, single in the sixth ends the perfecto, no-no, shutout. Papi doubles in another, 2-1 Bad Sox.
7 am flight for me tomorrow morning, off to San Antonio, so no game threads for me until the All Star Game.
Tremendous headline-photo combination, Alex. Pitch poifict.
Just caught the tailend of a conversation with Cone on espn radio in which I heard for the first time that Napoli called Tanaka an "idiot"for grooving him a fastball. Usually I can ignore chippy comments from Red Socks, especially when they're toiling in AL East irrelevance, but I've never wanted as much to slap Napoli in the mouth as I do now
[4] Huh, I've wanted to slap him in the mouth many times. (It would be best to wear gloves -- the beard, you know.) He pulled a Buckner yesterday, which was delightful, but the BoSox somehow pulled the game out of thin air, after being completely dominated by Chris Sales.
Uehara just blew a 2-run lead in the ninth. BoSox batting in the bottom.
Gawd.
I'm not fond of Phelps Day.
5) I just thought it was a douchier than normal Red Sock comment, and unduly disrespectful to Tanaka. I must have avoided the media the day after that loss because this was the first I'd heard of it.
Robin Ventura just ordered Stephen Drew to be intentionally walked.
I think that's one of the signs of the apocalypse.
Oh, sorry, for those who don't follow the Red Sox: Drew is batting .128.
And Mike Carp wins it with a tenth-inning single.
The karma for a Stephen Drew IBB is hellish. (Hm, mixing religions a bit, but you get the point.)
10) If I told you a guy named Mike who is a four-letter c-word won the game for the Red Sox, would you think I meant Carp?
[11] :-)
Oh, jeez.
Whew.
Thanks, Jacoby.
So sweet is Zelous contemplation!
Truly we are at our beads!
Unbelievable.
Frankie must be wondering what the hell he did in a past life or something.
Scrantonians collecting rbi!
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, Zelous of good works.
Too bad rbj isn't watching. It's a good Jacoby day! In the field at least.
Six weeks.
Well, could be worse. I mean, I don't know if the Yankees can survive those six weeks, but it's better than surgery.
Of f%ck..torn UCL for Tanaka...
[19] Only if it works ... and by "works" I also include "doesn't leave him diminished to any significant degree".
Plenty of ways that *not* having surgery is as bad, or worse, than having it ...
19) Is partial tear just postponing the inevitable TJ surgery?
[22] Seems like it to me ...
It could be.
If the tear is tiny it might not need any repair at all. But ligament tears don't heal, so if it's significant it eventually has to be fixed surgically.
Here's my prediction (over on BBTF):
[blockquote]
Sigh.
Seriously, why does this seem like worse than the "worst case scenario" ... like, they'll waste 6-8 weeks "resting" the injury, then waste 6-8 weeks "rehabbing" it, then waste a stupid amount of time trying to "strengthen" it and THEN finally, belatedly, admit defeat and have the surgery ... and thus, having pissed around for a ridiculous amount of time, wasted essentially 1.5 - 2 years.
Blargh.
[/blockquote]
[25] Blargh ... well, you can get what I was going for ...
[26] I'm usually an 'Arghh..' fellow but can appreciate the way the 'Bl..' rolls off the tounge..
[25] PUNCHES SELF IN FACE ...
The Tanaka news is just mad depressing. We're pretty much toast for this year right? I mean, I don't see Phelps and Kuroda as our aces. Seriously, am I missing someone?
[29] tl;dr?
We're fucked.
Uh oh.
Phelps for the seventh was quite a gamble.
Still kind of in shock..Nova, Pineda, CC, Tanaka all go down before the ASB???
To be perfectly honest, I think we were already toast.
Now we're burned toast.
Matt Thornton.
I'll be relieved (so to speak) if we get out of this inning with the lead.
I LIKE Phelps-"y" ... if only for the fact that he has a noir-ish, retro-grade "20th Century" mug.
Mug, says I!
[32] yeah, a couple of them were risks, but all of them? Unreal.
Will Carroll on Tanaka:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2125457-for-masahiro-tanaka-injury-is-about-his-mechanics-not-his-splitter
... or tied, even.
LULZ ... Will Carroll ...
... or down a run.
Matt Thornton. Lefty Speshulist.
I picked a bad season to give up drinkin'.
Motherfucker!
Well, ain't THAT FUCKING SPECIAL!?!?!?!!?
[41] You picked a bad season to stop sniffing glue ...
[37] Interesting.
An orthopedic surgeon told me that ligaments do not repair themselves. But Carroll's guy says otherwise, so that's good.
well damn. this game just went to shit.
Shit.
We have to have Matt Thornton. Because otherwise, who would get the lefty batters out in key situations?
[44] RIP Leslie Nielsen.
[45] At this point, is anyone willing to accept Carroll's guesses at the change of seasons???
He's pretty much the Dick Morris of baseball prognostications ...
Yeah ... ME GONE!
Just tuned in for the Tanaka news. I'm opening a vein.
Lovely, nice play Jeet.
[51] lol. have a good evening cult. or at least a better rest of the evening.
holy crap. we suck.
have a good night all.
