Just secured tix for Sunday Sept 21 in the hope it will be a Day for no. 2. I thought I'd just set that down and leave it there while the second half we'll experience between now and then is still in the future and retains a mote of hope.

I know Banterite policy is not to lap up the manufactured spectacles, but I have a soft spot for things I'll tell my grandkids I saw. We wouldn't have made fun of Lou Gehrig Day, would we have?

Ready set go.

[1] "We wouldn't have made fun of Lou Gehrig Day, would we have?"

Not by a long shot. Hope you do get to see a Jeter Day!

In the meantime, CC is out for the rest of the year, no real surprise but . . . sheesh. It's kind of incredible that the Yanks are not worse off, record-wise.

Cash says he will not promote Refsnyder this year because he doesn't want to have to put him on the roster in the off season. Fair enough, but I will have to adjust my interest accordingly. He thinks the Jeter farewell can carry the day. For younger fans I'm sure it can. For us old timers Jeter, while terrific, is no Mickey Mantle.

Man, Derek looks ten years older in that suit.

5 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 6:22 pm

Stop bunting in the first inning, Derek!

Odd, when the Yankees play the Tigers, I get the Yankees feed. Not so with them playing the Reds. Dunno about the Indians.

6 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 6:28 pm

McCann could!

7 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 6:29 pm

Wow, a first inning run, a Phelps lead.

8 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 6:35 pm

Brian to Brian!

Roberts played that beautifully.

9 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:07 pm

Awe jeez.

10 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:09 pm

I LOVE turning into the radio broacast and the VERY first play is hearing Sterling describing how badly Roberts FUCKED that up. OI! Bollocks!

11 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:11 pm

For fuck's sake!

12 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:11 pm

Booooooooooooooooooooooooo!

13 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:13 pm

[1] Me again, yeah, I know, I know, just saw. We'll have fun at the game anyway. Big city, takin' a nap...

Got plane tickets already too.

[1] "We wouldn't have made fun of Lou Gehrig Day, would we have?"

Comparing the circumstances of Lou Gehrig Day to those of a hypothetical Derek Jeter Day is a real stretch.

[2] It's kind of incredible that the Yanks are not worse off, record-wise.

It's basically because of Tanaka plus Betance and Robertson, no? And now Tanaka is gone.

15 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:20 pm

[14] Have no fear - no direct comparison intended. You're talking to someone who always takes locker no. 4 at the gym if it's open. :)

16 monkeypants   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:23 pm

[3] For us old timers Jeter, while terrific, is no Mickey Mantle.

True, he's no Mantle (3rd all time career WAR for Yankees), but he's no slouch for the organization (5th all time career WAR for Yankees).

17 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:35 pm

Yay, Jacoby!!

18 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:36 pm

Me!

19 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:38 pm

Well this is good.

20 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:39 pm

Excuse me double for Carlos! Take that, shift.

21 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:48 pm

Nice, David.

22 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 7:49 pm

Jeez, Phelps has been good this year. Not always, but much better than I ever expected.

23 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:01 pm

Who is that guy?

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:03 pm

Gah. Bah. FUCK!

25 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:03 pm

[22] I'm blaming you. Even though it's Phelpsie.

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:05 pm

[3] Seriously? That's fucking insulting to anyone who has season tickets. If the team thinks Refsnyder could help this team, he should come up, roster considerations be damned. We're not the fucking Marlins ...

27 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:07 pm

[25] Could be right. I have to admit I kind of don't give a fuck now, so maybe that's bad vibes.

28 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:08 pm

That's a helluva pitch.

29 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:09 pm

I'm double-fisting the game with XM Radio on the stereo and ESPN Gamecast on the PC while I work... surprised to see the satellite radio feed is as much as two batters behind Gamecast (which can't be very instant itself).

Dear Dancin'

Let's be Dealin'

KTHX,

Cult

31 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:13 pm

Well, that wasn't made to order ...

32 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:13 pm

Oy. Looks like the has acquired rusty gloves with the time off.

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:14 pm

Cap'n!!!

34 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:15 pm

Dellin, baby!

35 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:15 pm

[29] That's interesting, because broadcast radio (I'm listening to John and Suzyn) is well ahead of Gamecast. Maybe 30 seconds.

36 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:15 pm

Dellin be DEALIN'

37 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:15 pm

Defense. Defense has rust.

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:16 pm

Dancin' Betances is the best nickname in a long time as far as I'm conderned! lol... Nasty.

39 MSM35   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:17 pm

(26) He said that today. I can live with that if he protects his best prospects. But he has other guys at AAA who are better than Johnson, Ichiro and Roberts. They are hard to watch.

40 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:17 pm

[35] Yeah, John and Suzyn for me too.

Weird to hear them in rich stereo instead of tinny AM.

41 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:20 pm

For example: John yelled "Struck [Cozart] out swinging!" the same instant Gamecast gave me strike 1 to Ellsbury.

42 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:23 pm

[38] Thanks. Though I would personally prefer the Alabama Hamm(a/er) from my personal arsenal ...

43 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:23 pm

Reds broadcasters aren't too bad. Not blatant homers.

44 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:26 pm

No chance.

45 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:26 pm

Jesus. High heat, unhittable.

46 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:26 pm

Frazier's impressively ugly, for being a completely "generic white dude".

47 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:27 pm

Woof!

48 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:28 pm

Fastball, DB, FASTBALL.

49 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:28 pm

Or that ... That'll do.

50 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:29 pm

[48] Or, impossible curve for strike three.

51 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:29 pm

C'mon, don't overthrow.

52 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:30 pm

Dancin'

54 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:39 pm

Do it to it, Dave.

55 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:42 pm

Hammer hurt 'em.

56 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:42 pm

Fuck! Just missed it.

57 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:44 pm

Two gone

58 RIYank   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:46 pm

Yay!
Good job, Dave.

59 Ara Just Fair   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:46 pm

Nice win. : ) Cheers.

60 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:46 pm

Three gone!

61 rbj   ~  Jul 18, 2014 8:46 pm

Night all.

62 cult of basebaal   ~  Jul 18, 2014 9:08 pm
