One last
Gonna miss Meredith's boobies too
Today is upon us.
Jete has to go out with a hit and a win!
[2] Is she leaving YES or is it just the offseason?
Very cool ceremony. Classy!
(4) Just the offseason, but the wait will feel like forever.
Got chills when I saw Bobby Orr.
[5] i missed it. i imagine yes will have video footage later?
[6] i hear ya.
wow. so today was mantle's last game, also at fenway - 1968.
Here we go.
here it is...
A little verklempt.
Oh you bum.
asshole shortstop.
that's kinda awesome that their fans are booing him!
Made good contact
Standing Room seats at Fenway were going for over $300 on the secondary market.
Welp, at least he hit it on the screws.
Fun to watch Big Mike.
I think Mookie is Dickey's son.
Mike's mowing down the PawSox today.
Tyler Kepner in the Times today wrote that Russell Martin was the 6th most valuable player in the NL this season. Wow!
Well that was cool!
(I would have preferred a walk, honestly.)
Nice hit Ichiro!
[22] Yeah, a salami would have been nice.
Yay!!!!
Save that ball!
excellent!
take him out?
Dang allergies
loved that "FEN-ale" sign. very cool.
Ok, I'm crying a little.
Just like that.
Farewell, Derek.
wow. so that's it, huh.
[29] onions.
are they chanting "Thank You, Derek"?!
[31] At last we understand your tag!
Excellent finish. I was ready. I know he was.
As Dylan once said, "Now is the time for your tears."
[21] he's had a great year. so has phil phranchise.
Sweet.
And he beat out an infield hit to cap it!
[35] bury the rag deep in your face...
[19] I think your thinking needs to be thought about.
I'm about to head to rehearsal with Butch's son...
speedy gonzalez!
can we add that run to derek's ledger?
.310 with 3,465 hits.
Including the post season, Derek has played in 2905 games. 2901 of them had World Series win implications. 99.86% That's probably the most remarkable statistic.
I guess that's one good thing about the Yankees being out of it this year. They could give a proper sendoff. It wouldn't be possible if the Yanks were still on contention.
Now I'm finding myself thinking, again, "Who are the Yankees now?"
I'm sad.
Crazy playoff scenarios.
Jeter probably held on a year too long, and I know I am in the majority saying I'd rather have a great player play a season ot two too many than try to end on a storybook high note and maybe call it quits too soon.
One down
Two down
A little melancholy this season be. Even with all the injuries, the Yankees had a chance...probably needed to score on average one more run per game. Scrubs and whose that pitcher? were the norm.
And the end of an era, an all time great retiring. Just feel a little sad.
Thanks Alex and all who post here for another great baseball season with the Banter.
Three down
And curtains.
Can't say this was a great season. However it's nice to be among fans who do not boo and are not looking to fire the GM, manager and owner after every loss. Enjoy the off season. We will enjoy the site for wit and wimsy in the coming months.
