The big question mark, Nathan Eovaldi goes tonight.
My Spidey Sense is tingling–I think he’s due to get walloped.
Let’s hope I’m wrong.
Jacoby Ellsbury CF
Brett Gardner LF
Alex Rodriguez DH
Brian McCann C
Carlos Beltran RF
Chase Headley 3B
Stephen Drew 2B
Garrett Jones 1B
Didi Gregorius SS
Never mind the indoors:
Let’s Go Yank-ees!
Jorgie tells all, apparently:

Does every former player have to cash in by writing a book? Of course, a headline about some controversy has to be the lead. What a waste of print.
Gosh, that's a beautiful building. Or maybe it's just a beautiful picture.
And happy birthday Yogi.
Now get me home.
[4} Another hit! You remain en fuego!
Look at all these yummy hits!
Thank you Brian!
Carlos!
I love these hits!
Homers are fun, but it's nice to bag some runs by singles too.
Although four would have been nicer.
[11] Why are you speaking in the future perfect? The inning is still unfolding!
Oy.
A-Rod's legs, very short fly...
Rats!
[12] Because I'm prescient.
I can predict baseball.
Someone please tell me once again - why did we get Garrett Jones???
Also, was that really future perfect? I think "will have been" is future perfect. Or would have been future perfect.
But then again, English, am I right? Does it even have a future tense?
Ha!
[17] Good question. I will look it up later at the office.
Oh, very nice!
Ya know what? Sometimes the umps are pretty damn good!
Another hit!
Jeez.
Another hit!
Damn I'm hotter than the sun.
[17] Yeah, the second I said it I thought it was wrong. "Shall have been" is probably future perfect.
"Would have been" is maybe perfect subjunctive?
Who can remember these things anymore.
Grrrrrr.
I believe our steal attempts have been counterproductive this year, on the whole.
[17] What about pluperfect?
[25] Maybe. But does English really have subjunctive nowadays?
(These are rhetorical questions, by the way.)
Sigh.
Good lord.
Okay, NO MORE FUCKING STEALS.
I blame Mattpat for this bullshit.
I think pluperfect would be "Four had been nicer."
[28] we should adopt Chinese grammar. I watch baseball; I watch baseball yesterday; I watch baseball tomorrow. Nice and easy!
Japanese grammar though...yikes..
Maybe they shouldn't be running on Rivera?
Yeah, pluperfect is like perfect but with past tense 'had' instead of 'have'.
It's looking at the past from a past point of view.
[30] Laughing
[32] Hahahaha! Yes. Nice and easy.
John, while Mary had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher.
Someone sprinkled magic pixie dust on our pitchers.
Oh, my apologies.
Someone has sprinkled magic pixie dust on our pitchers.
[38] 誰かが私たちの投手にマジックピクシーダストを振りかけました
'someone out pitchers on magic pixie dust has sprinkled.'
That play does *not* go "5-3."
Ok, this is getting out of hand.
If they are going to continue to shift the scoring needs to change to reflect that.
To say that play was 5-3 is utterly meaningless and unproductive.
You might just as well score it 12-3.
They need to refigure the scoring system to account for where the ball was actually hit.
Ooooh.
But is there a word corresponding to 'has'? Do you make the perfect tense with an auxiliary verb?
[40] Yeah, it's an interesting problem, I agree.
The only player on the field who has an official position is the pitcher. For everyone else, it's just score-keeping convenience. The point of scoring the games is to have a record of what happened, which you don't have when you say which guy fielded it, with no correlation to the part of the field the ball traveled to.
Positive outlook on Tanaka, according to Meredith.
[41] Don't think so.
So now Jones gets a hit.
Wow!
Brett!
What a catch!
Almost, Didi
Phew
Game is moving quickly.
Seems like they've already played 50 games this year in Tampa Bay. Such a dreadful, depressing stadium.
Eovaldi is NOT Carl Pavano. Not Carl Pavano. Not...
Shit.
Dammit!
Garrett Jones fields nothing cleanly, huh?
Boo
Do not steal Brett.
I kinda glad Eo started the eighth, but I think he needs to leave the game now.
Aggghhh! Fuck.
I don't want to lose this game.
(Though I do dig the Hendrix, to be sure.)
Let's see what Dellin can do with men on base.
Aw fuck!
sigh
And there's your ballgame, folks.
[58] Where did you hear the Hendrix? I got the Rays radio feed, the usual 92.3 K-Rock selection.. The Doors, Faboulous Thunderbirds, etc.
Damn..losing to this team is annoying.
Remember bases loaded no one out?
I got home just in time to see Eovaldi's worst two innings.
Oh, for fuck's sake.
[62] at the stadium, they played "Hey Joe" on the PA when EO left the game.
Circus music time
Good Lord!
[62] They played "Hey, Joe" when Joe came out to yank Eovaldi.
Ugh..
Yanks were due to lose one like this. I think it might be harsh to say that Eovaldi pitched good enough to lose but he did unravel at the end. But the blame here goes on the offense for only getting 2 runs in the first.
Brad Boxburger..no relation to Bruce Boxleitner (ex-husband of Laura Ingalls, if I remember correctly?)
[70] A-yup.
That's a tough loss.
Two tears in a bucket then you say fuggit. EO pitched well, and the Rays runs were mostly bad Yankee luck. Just win the series.
[70] I blame you for cursing the game before it even began.
Meh. Night all.
75) I'll take the hit. LOL
Just had that bad feeling though I thought Eovaldi was going to be terrible and he was far from it.
3) Bags, a fellow Banterite, is the MAN.
