CC goes to the DL and who knows if he’ll pitch again this season. Sigh.
Big game for Eovaldi tonight.
Jacoby Ellsbury CF
Brett Gardner LF
Alex Rodriguez DH
Brian McCann C
Carlos Beltran RF
Greg Bird 1B
Chase Headley 3B
Didi Gregorius SS
Stephen Drew 2B
Never mind the losing:
Let’s Go Yank-ees!
CC is a great guy and really helped us with that ring in '09, but I think he is pretty much done as a pitcher. He should have stayed on the diet. I know he felt that his velocity left when the weight did last year, but we now know that wasn't true.
Carrying a lot of extra weight could not have been good for his knee. If his shoulder was hurt, the Yanks could get out from his contract before 2017, but there was no provisions for his knee.
Come on young guys and Pineda and welcome back Capuano! We left the light on for you.
[1] What is this, the twelfth time he's been designated and then brought back this season? LL Cool Cap?
Sweet, Nathan.
Get out the speed gun, fellas!
I don't hate the astros. I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
Yes!
Nice play, Drew
Didi is going to win this game for us.
I meant Stephen, of course. Stephen will win this game for us.
Nah, even I don't believe it.
Line drive in the box score, Drew.
And he's over the Mendoza line!
Oh god. Just don't strike out watching, please, Brett. I can't take it.
Ofergoshsake.
Swinging at one in the dirt.
Nope. Squandered.
Blegh.
101 for Nate.
Easy cheese. Atta boy, Nathan.
And Carlos jogs to first base on that DP. Shades of Cano...
[9] i do. i don't hate drew as much as everyone else. go figure...
GET IT TOGETHER, NATE.
[10] hell yeah!!
[11] hard to believe he's 32 years old. not hard to believe his birthday is today. (if i didn't make two sentences, you'd turn my syntax around!)
Yeah. [18] Like that.
really, drew? i take it back.
Oh, hang on... got him, huh?
Drew giveth and Drew taketh away.
[21] what i meant is: i don't hate him as much as everyone else. i hate him MORE!
nah, just kidding. he doesn't bother me that much...
Yay!
Maybe Stephen will yet save the day.
Some consolation
see that, people? my tolerance of stephen caused that play to be overruled.
two outs!!
[26] oh, i have no doubt.
i'm a believer. (also, a monkee.)
[10] did drew receive a bronx cheer when he reached .200?
i like how drew's hit was an infield single to the pitcher. that kinda rules!
and nate is out of it! drew made two of those outs. good on him.
No damage
[39] Dunno. I think they were too stunned to react
Err, that should be 30, not 39. Stupid iPad.
oh yeah, i just realized i won't get to see a-rod on friday night. well, unless he pinch hits.
that sucks, but i should be at the stadium next month. i really wanna see him live this season!
so much for mendoza...
This is not good.
Uh-oh.
Gomez will bunt, watch.
Hmmm, not good.
Come in tighter. He's definitely bunting.
Well, it succeeded, but now the situation is slightly better for us.
This is what I love about other teams sacrificing.
Gorgeous.
Love it.
Nice play by the bird man
Nice play, Bird
Whew!
And the successful sacrifice fails again.
Phew
Now, how about we dial up some runs
Well, Nate is certainly the hero so far.
I dig Nathan. He's a good pick up.
[50] just keeping it warm for stephen.
[51] me too.
can we please figure out scott feldman now?!
go Mac.
now steal! [kidding. i kid.]
The "old" Yankee teams knew how to handle Feldman...
No extra base hits tonight. For either team.
I mean, so far...
nice fucking rip, beli!
[56] as you were saying...
Rats! So close.
For a second there I thought I'd reverse-jinxed it!
Good enough. Long single.
[55] thought for sure that was going to be ended right there.
Interesting, the infield is back at DP depth. Very interesting.
And now it's up to cut off the run!
WTF? How could the strategy change at 1-0??
Bird batting style reminds me of John Olerud.
NO!
Birdfail.
Oh, ferfuck's sake, Bird!
Oh my god.
Oh god. Are you kidding me?
motherfucker.
goddamn, he's slow. wow. sooo fucking s l o w . . .
Slow freaking motion.
Dammit! Would have to be the catcher at third
Belly flopping horse shit.
and what a terribly ugly "slide."
hope his right knee is ok...
Too bad McCann trying to beat out throw.
[72] Verb?
[73] it's a blog
unbelievable. i called the throw.
what the fuck, chase? god fucking dammit fuck!!
talk about horseshit. that's #20.
Ooooh, not good. Isn't this the break the Astros were looking for?
[74] Oh, right you.
[73] fucking?
My recently finished softball season as a third baseman is eerily similar to Headley.
let's play a-rod as our third basement!
[78] works for me
[78] Kind of a personal question, dude.
[80] works for me
[78] gerund. Should be fucking tried. Third base coach should have held him.
Interestingly, 'fucking' could go between any two words in the string!
Not many words are so flexible.
Saving the bullpen
[84] Fucking third base coach should have held him.
Third base coach fucking should have held him.
Third base coach should have fucking held him.
I don't think the other ones work.
?Third fucking base coach should have held him.
?Third base coach should fucking have held him.
*Third base coach should have held fucking him.
[85] good use of the word "flexible."
Okay.
Must get Nate the W. Otherwise there is no justice in the universe.
[88] Thank you.
Earlier today I used the word 'irenic'. It made me happy; the opportunity rarely arises.
[87] takes me back to my Latin class, decline the word "fuck"
Nathan is an excellent pitcher. Has serious 'nads.
Fucking dammit, one fucking run, for fuck's sake.
[85] Are you familiar with the buffalo sentence?
[90] that's a peaceful term.
it also anagrams to something i don't like, esp in light of [78].
[94] i am. my best friend uses it.
Jeebus
[94] I am! Very fond of it.
Of course, there are many. Infinitely many!
scott fucking feldman
[95] Hm, wordsmith.com can't find the anagram.
I'm afraid to ask, though.
Sorta thought coffee Joe would leave Nathan in for another.
Fucking Buffalo.
[101] Shoulda.
I've been trying to find which Yankees third basemen had the most errors in a season. To no avail.
[101] yeah, me too.
Good.
Yay!
That's my second-favorite kind of DP.
McCann can!
MAC ATTACK!!!
uh-oh. might be reviewed. doesn't matter - he's OUT!
McCann has been flawless last week or two on caught stealings
[104] Robin Ventura had a lot.
But I bet it was a very early player -- maybe someone on the Highlanders, even. Because the fields were so bad compared to today's fields.
would be cool if birthday boy goes boom!
i can't believe oliver perez is still pitching.
Oh, and these runs aren't going to score themselves
When was the last time Alex laid down a bunt?
Okay, Brettski!
First walk we get, good time for it.
ok. good.
now steal 2nd AND 3rd : )
or, just let alex hit it out. that would be really cool. he very well may!
i'll take that!
now steal 3rd!
[111] good one. 23 errors in 2002.
Good ol' Perez.
Oh, man.
Maybe the run is gonna score itself.
ack. wish alex would get to swing.
maybe mac will get his 4th single! (of the game of course.)
WP takes away DP. So of couse they walk Alex
Yeah, I can actually endorse this IBB. Makes sense.
[121] You mean in his entire career???
Oh, wait, you already said.
[123] it does.
[124] i anticipated your comment and covered my ground!
No way they screw this up.
Shaping up to be a W.
90 feet away
Of course, that's the biggest downside of the IBB.
Oh, man. If we don't score here, I'm leaving.
Oy. Bases full. Up to Beltan#
wow. bases loaded, nobody out.
beli up. new pitcher.
we better win this!!! quickly and efficiently would be nice.
i'd be quite content with a balk. too bad balk a day bob isn't behind the plate.
Turned it back on for the bottom of the 9th. Gotta score here. No excuses.
[130] and if we do score, will you be staying?
seamus!
YAHOOOOO!!!!!
Word. Cheers, all.
[134] Well, just for one drink, maybe.
Beer is fine.
WAHOO!!!
that's what i'm talkin' about. one pitch, win the game. nice an' easy.
and birthday boy scores the winning run. me likey.
GO YANKS!!!
nice! off the bat it was obvi a run. I like that.
Hot damn! Maybe runs do score themselves
[135] whats up thelarmis. good win!
Carlos! Could this be a preview of the AL playoffs? Happy birthday Gritner.
[138] i love beer. none for me 'til thursday night at the earliest.
i'm heading back to the studio now. nice to be here with the gang for a change!
Seamus, thank you. I think your contribution put them over the top.
Night all
[145] i gave it the ol' college try!
1st place!
Let's all sleep well!
Okay, then, I'll have a gin and tonic.
beer. g'night all
Giving Miller a win for this game makes baseball look ridiculous, Suzyn.
I mean, come on, maaaaaaaaaaan. Gimme some fuckin' logic.
Speaking of which....
"Daddy, is it wrong to be glad somebody is on the DL?"
