Harvey’s Innings Limit Helps Pave Way For Yankee Win

bagslightlight

C.C. Sabathia gave up consecutive doubles to start the game last night. Both came on 0-2 pitches. I figured it was going to be a long night. Instead, that was the last run Sabathia allowed. He went six innings and kept his team in the game against Matt Harvey who was predictably stellar. Also predictable was that he didn’t last long. Harvey pitched 5 innings and left with a 1-0 lead. The favors did not stop as Chico’s Bail Bonds took over for the home team as the Mets kicked the ball around to the tune of 4 errors. A pair of 3-run home runs–Dustin Ackley, Greg Bird–helped put it out of reach as the Yanks pounded the Mets, 11-2.

Yanks gain a game on the Jays and win the season series against the Mets. Yeah, staying up late worked out last night.

Tough to be a Mets fan, and I want the Mets to do well to the end, unless the Yankees meet them in the World Series. But the way their fans behaved on Friday, they got what they deserved.

Watching Harvey hang his head after the fifth, and Collins talking with him; it's like his treatment and the reasons for it is a mystery to him. Such BS. He'd better take the risk and pitch deep in the game if this team goes far in the playoffs. The Yankees went 6-11 with runners in scoring position, and had 8 two out RBIs. That has to give the team confidence as they head to Toronto.

Very encouraging to see CC increase his velocity and he pitched a great game.

Greg Bird reminds me of Paul O'Neill at the plate, but doesn't take it out on the water cooler after making an out. He looks like a seasoned veteran up there, and while losing Tex during his Renaissance season hurts, it is great to see a young guy taking the reins and playing so well.

The Yanks needed to give the bullpen a rest, and this game was just what the doctor ordered. They can still take the AL East with some luck.

Tanaka hurting his hammy is not good and they showed a stat that he has never pitched 3 days in MLB on normal rest. Ouchie! That is a lot of cheese to spend on a pitcher who can only go every 6 or 7 days.

Severino is pitching like an ace and maybe CC rediscovered the fountain of youth courtesy of a knee brace.

The playoffs more than anything are about a team that gets hot at the right moment and a great bullpen is always needed too.

The Yanks have a solid rotation at times with questions about health surrounding a lot of them. Pineda, Tanaka, and Severino all have great stuff and CC is a wild card and could go either way. Thankfully we saw the CC of old last night and not the old CC.

Speaking of old guys, look at Beltran punishing his former employer. Ellsbury's funk might be over too.

Excellent team effort and now we have to keep the mo going and beat up on the Jays.
