Congrats to the Royals.
Now, by my calculations . . . 119 days to the start of spring training games. Bears are lucky, they get to hibernate in the off season.
I'll admit that as a fan (baseball - permanent; Mets - temporary), I was rooting along with everyone in that park for Harvey to notch three more outs.
But I'm a fan - wanting drama and narratives is my job. There was only one guy in that building last night whose job it was to say "No, I'm gonna do the smart thing and take my boos for it."
You can't predict baseball, Suzyn, but I'm certain that if Familia starts the ninth, there's a game in KC tomorrow night.
I totally agree. But Collins also played it smart. Four Scenarios... Harvey stays in and wins... Collins looks great. Harvey stays in and loses, Collins... eh, can you blame him, it's Harvey ferchrissakes! Famiglia comes in and wins, Collins looks good. Familiglia comes in and loses... Collins is the goat, maybe even gets fired.
I saw the whole thing as self-destruction by ego. I will never forget video of Harvey, over and over saying, "No way. No way." Harvey forgot he's on a team that has a leader. ... Can anyone explain why Cespedes was allowed to hit when he couldn't run to first? Seems like another foul by ego. On the other hand, the Royals ruled the roost like a team and it was awesome to see them victorious.
I rooted pretty hard for the Muts to make it all the way through the NL playoffs, but very hard against them in the WS, for whatever reasons. I even called it in 5 games and am thrilled the Royales won! : )
I thought it was foolish that Cespedes finished his at-bat and downright dumb that Harvey went out for the 9th. At that point, I figured he'd be pulled at the very first sight of danger. Apparently, a leadoff walk is not dangerous. Wow. Incredibly stoopid.
Also, the Kansas City Royals are an incredible and exciting ballclub. Most deserving of a championship. Congrats to them.
A lot of people are jumping on the mistakes that the Mets made. But when you consider the style of the Royals, they not only capitalize on mistakes, they cause them. You know they will run everything out and be aggressive and take the extra base. As a fielder, you are looking to get the ball as quickly as possible and throw it ASAP.
It is pretty rough booing Murphy after the guys went off for 7 home runs and was the MVP of the last series.
Harvey was dealing and it was only a bad decision because it didn't work. Did anyone think that if they won last night that they could take 2 more in KC?

Such is life.

Poor leadership maybe, but he played the odds.

Oy and Vey? For me, it's more like: Oh and Yeah!

[6] I did. Couldn't help looking forward to a Syndergaard vs Royals showdown in Game 7. Too bad it didn't happen.
