In a Pinch

cloud-bags

C.C. Sabathia pitched into the 7th last night, didn’t allow a run, and the Yanks hit three solo home runs late (two by pinch-hitters—Ellsbury, Didi—and the other one, of course, by Sanchez), good for a tidy, 3-0 win against the Dodgers.

Later this afternoon—4:oo p.m. start—they’ll face Clayton Kershaw as they look to take the series.

Never mind the chill:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

I still don't understand why Ellsbury didn't PH with the bases loaded and two out in the fifth.
But, it all worked out!

Good win last night. Hopefully Boston can beat the O's and Tampa can help out with the Jays some more. Just 2 games out still.

Big Mike needs to be big today while we wait out Kershaw.

So if I'm reading the standings correctly, Os and Jays have the two WC spots, Yankees are tied with Detroit at two games back, with the Ms .5 games behind.

Crazy.

[3] It would be wild if we had a 4 way tie for the two spots at the end of the season.

I'm worried about the upcoming road trip but I guess I only need to worry about today.

Afternoon game

Oooh, forgot.

Oh, Kershaw, yikes. Is his ERA really 1.89?? That's sick.
Big Mike is gonna have to be on his game, for sure.

Nice try, Ref.

8 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:09 pm

Another catcher's interference. Must be a thing this year.

9 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:11 pm

Double play! I expect a review

10 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:12 pm

Well that was... fortunate.

I mean, if Ethier doubles there, the game is over.

11 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:12 pm

What a double play! Holy shit! Big Mike is lucky to walk off the field. Yikes.

12 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:16 pm

Or not

13 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:17 pm

Hmm, hate to lose Pineda, but if it gets Kershaw out of the game. . .

14 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:26 pm

And we're back. With Kershaw

15 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:33 pm

But not with Mike.

16 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 4:40 pm

And now another delay. Oh, an hour delay? Buh bye Kershaw.

17 Evil Empire   ~  Sep 14, 2016 5:24 pm

Any word on when the game will resume?

18 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 5:27 pm

[17] We're back. Kershaw is still out there?

19 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 5:28 pm

Base runner. Tough error

20 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 5:31 pm

A hit!

21 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 5:37 pm

Modammit!

22 Evil Empire   ~  Sep 14, 2016 5:44 pm

Is Kershaw on a pitch count? If so, take take take take.

23 Evil Empire   ~  Sep 14, 2016 5:45 pm

Woo hoo he's gone!

24 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 5:51 pm

Same result though.

25 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:10 pm

I accept that walk!

Last time Didi came up with two on... he bunted.

26 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:12 pm

I don't see any serious PH threats. McCann, I guess. If we use 'threat' in its most generous sense.

27 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:14 pm

McCann it is. So now a pitching change, I presume?
Yep.
Good, because this game was going much too fast. Six or seven pitching changes over the next couple of innings will help. Then maybe four or five extra innings.

28 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:18 pm

Sigh

29 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:19 pm

Seems like we could manage to have a more dangerous lefty PH. What with the expanded rosters and all.

Oh well. Let's go to the eighth, then.

30 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:37 pm

Okay, Jacoby, step up to the plate. Deliver!

31 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:40 pm

Boo, me!

32 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:42 pm

Not that.

33 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:47 pm

Shit!

34 Evil Empire   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:48 pm

Arrrrrgh

35 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:51 pm

Keystone kops

36 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 6:52 pm

Uh oh.
I'm not seeing a comeback in my crystal ball now. Damn.

37 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 7:02 pm

If I watched all of Starlin Castro's at bats, he would be batting .675. But, he would never score a run.

38 rbj   ~  Sep 14, 2016 7:06 pm

Fuck

39 RIYank   ~  Sep 14, 2016 7:06 pm

Yeesh
Lost without giving up an earned run.
And, the Dodger bullpen was maybe more effective than Kershaw!

Brett Gardner, I was your fan early on. I defended you from ridicule. I resisted every call to trade you.

But if you aren't going to run in that eighth-inning spot, when are you ever going to run?

And if.you aren't ever going to run, what's the fucking point of you?
