After a successful opening day the Yanks got beat twice by the Orioles and ended the first series with a thud. That hollow sound reverberated even more when it was announced that the Big Guy, Mr. Stanton is headed to the injury list.
We having fun yet?
More tonight as the Bombers host the Tigers.
No better time than now, fellas:
Never mind the cobwebs:
Let’s Go Yank-ees!
6:30 start.
Sometimes it just seems we run into a snakebitten season where everyone's hurt. This is what 2019 already looks like.
[2] You aren't kidding - now Andujar is on the IL! Been a rough couple of days in the Bronx...
Miggy Jr.? Now what
A run, a lead. Maybe I should take the dog for more walks
Please Gleyber, don't be hurt by 'em!
Atta kid, baby! More strike outs and less walks next time!
Lil' G!
Be great if Gary has a good start with the bat, need it while Stanty is out..
German looking good overall, let's hope Boone doesn't get silly with the pen.
Yay, Bird made a play and didn’t hurt himself
I don't know most of these Tigers batters..Mahtook? Greiner?
I hope Frazier can get on track and avoid crashing into things.
Lead off walk in the 8th. Ferfuck's sake!
Cabrera looks like he could blow up to 400lbs and still rake line drives
Good start, zero.
Not good, Otto. I may need some vino
Strikes please
AJ flashes leather.
Wow! Watch that wrist, Judge!
Ruled out of order
whew.
That's one way to pitch the 8th. Phew.
Phew
wonder how the Judge does in advanced defense metrics.
[24] I believe last year he rated out very well!
Otto in Inning Ocho..Chapman in for the save now?
Yup, Deploying the fully operational Chapman
One down
That’s two
I like it. Cheers y'all.
Three!
A win is a win, but it’ll be interesting, who’s worse this year, Tigers or Orioles?
So I wake up to a nice win, then immediately learn Stanton and Andujar are out. The universe is testing us Yankee fans.
Andujar with torn labrum. Well, fuck me.
I've got two words for Hal and Cash: Manny Machado. Seems like you can never have enough hitting either.
glad we won, but...
miggy is my man! i'm crushed it's a tear. diving back into 3B is how i originally dislocated my shoulder when i was 15...
thankfully, judge and gleyber avoided wrist injuries today. really hope stanton comes back soon and rakes.
Possibly season ending surgery for Miggy Jr.? Grumble grumble grumble.
[34] From RAB: The Andujar injury is brutal. Stanton’s a great player and an important Yankee, but he pulled a muscle and is expected back in a few weeks. It sucks but it’s not the end of the world. Andujar has structural damage in his shoulder and is potentially facing season-ending surgery. Career-altering surgery, maybe, because it is his throwing arm
Hearing about Andújar's injury yesterday was one of the knee-buckling moments for me. Just imagine from his perspective -- he spends the entire winter wondering about whether or not he's going to be traded, whether or not Machado is coming to town, whether or not his near ROY season was valued by the Yankees, and then he's finally free of all that. All he has to do is settle in and play third base, and now this. To be honest, I don't even really care about how this might affect the team, I'm just upset for Andújar. So awful.
Let’s have an injury free game
Nice job from Tanaka getting out of it, let's get some runs.
Phew.
Yup. I had to look up when Jeter wrecked his shoulder on Opening Day. 2003! Holy shit. Here's to Miguel's full recovery.
Boone looks like he's Benjen Stark, North of The Wall ... It isn't *that* cold ...
Another phew ...
Had to switch to the Nats game, lots of boos for Bryce
Winter is Coming!
Bugger
Risp success? With 2 outs? Who knew?
Jesus, this looks like another great pitching performance going to waste. Of course, Zimmerman has been great, too.
Voit is a liability a first.
Here is Sub-Zero! Now plain zero! - my internal monologue every game that dude putches this year.
These new MLB commercials are good.
Glad Zim is out. ever notice that they call them "veteran" righties and "crafty"lefties? Zim is a crafty righty.
ratz
Otto is impressive, but still waiting for DB in the 8th
Oh, Johnny Lasagna tomorrow.
sure hope luke is ok
bad luck dp
Grrrrr.......
Hold 'em here and walk it off.
Ruh roh, Luke?
crap
[43] Never understood why fans do that. Players worked so hard to get the right to become a free agent, they owe the team and city nothing.
Can the Yanks score more than one run please??
Sweet. Another possible loss to such a dangerous hitting team. Pukw.
C'mon Chapman!!
Kimbrel, Chapman, Gangne, whomever...closers come and flame out, there is only one Mo..
blech
Yuck
[61] I’m a capitalist. I have no problem with someone taking the best deal out there. Not even Wells and Cano.
Yeesh
Tauchman in an important AB is just..sup-optimal..
Absolutely Fucking Bollocks this game. Egads.
Boo, boo, boo.
[61] [66] Imagine being mad at a friend because he/she moved away to take a higher paying job in another city?
Of course, fan is short for fanatic, so in that sense it makes sense.
[68] Why didn't Boone pinchhit Bird for Tauch? Grrr. This season has me all pissed off already. I'm not gonna survive.
This from Mike Axisa at RAB: "And finally, what a complete failure by Aaron Boone in the ninth inning. Down two runs and Tauchman bats while Sanchez ends the game standing on deck waiting to pinch-hit? I know Tauchman doubled earlier in the game and ideally Gary would bat with a man on base, but come the hell on, get your best players in the game when you’re down to your last three outs."
I was thinking lefty on righty Bird, but, yeah, why not bat Gary? He was in the on-deck circle when the game ended. [Sigh]
In other news, Philly is looking really good. Amazing what happens when you sign a future hall of fame outfielder just reaching his prime vs shopping at the clearance aisle in Colorado.
[72] Apparently, nobody got Judge’s memo, about playing with urgency. I’m calling it now, this laid back / half comatose team will never win a championship under the laid back / half comatose Boone.
2 Things:
1) It's the first week in April, and half the team is on the IL. Not yet the time for panic.
2) Today we have afternoon baseball - as a retiree, it's one of life's little pleasures.
Afternoon, all (even if it seems like 2 of us).
Spurs and Yankees, a good afternoon.
Hopefully.
2 out risp fail. Same ol' same ol'.
Afternoon all. Back from helping Dad take an angle grinder to some cracks in the garage's cement.
I approve of the Judge's ruling.
The Judge rules: OPPO ribeye!
Ball away ... take it away.
Damn right, Paulie.
Huh, Tulo is out ... who could have guessed that ...
Well it has been two games since someone went down.
Sweet. Tulo lasted 5 games. Inauspicious start to 2019.
Left calf strain. Farging wunnerful.
Fuck.
He got squeezed on 2 pitches in that at bat.
C'mon blue.
So far this year, this team is making me feel like this:
https://youtu.be/GWmGrR9a818?t=345
And not in the coming out on top Sandor Clegane way ...
Ha!
Hey look. Risp with 2 outs. What's going to haopen? Hmmmm.....
Great, K central.
Off to dinner.
Are you Fucking kidding me! So many ks! Grrrrrrrr.......
well, Green does what Green does. not much a chance to get back, given that virtually nobody is hitting.
btw, nats beat Philly on a walk off walk.
16 ks today.that's the story
17
Good call, Boone. I love a good pinch runner with 2 outs.
not even close.
I think Boone is getting advice from that TD trade guy.
oh goodie, Yanks vs O's tomorrow in the afternoon.
18
This was a fun game.
lose 2 of 3 to O's and Tigers. yeesh.
fucking pathetic
Dinner out was the better choice
Boone's and Cashman's narrow minds probably sees this loss, like every other one, as a failing to hit enough solo homeruns.
I don't know if you guys noticed, but these Yankees are not very good at hitting the ball. And, BTW, Hal is a cheap-ass bastard.
[109] When you have $89 million on the injured list, not surprising that they look like a 4A team.
Beautiful day for a game this afternoon in Bal-more (that's how they pronounce it)
Let's go Yanks!
I know I'm being greedy, but can we have a win and no one get injured?
Nice to have Ken back in the booth
2019 so far in a nutshell in that at bat.
sigh
Sigh ... a balk.
Yeah, that's the way this season has started.
You have got to be fucking kidding.
Well, this has started like a dumpster fire ...
Well, that's something ...
Nice ab from Gritner
FU blue
Off to walk the dog
TERRIBLE fucking call from Blue on strike 2.
Bring on the robots.
A two out RISP hit? I wish the Yankees would do something like that.
Gary!
PS guys, it's ok to homer with guys on base as well.
At least he went with the pitch instead of trying to pull it ...
GLEYBER TIME!!!
Gleyberday!
Yeah, just like that, Torres.
Not sure about Kahnle here ...
Phew
Phew,
Home in time to see Judge get screwed again. FFS!
Another garbage call on Judge.
Robots.
Atta boy, Posada! Oh, wait.
Yup.
Got busy doing advanced holiday cooking, just turn on. Surprised to see the yanks ahead. Gee, tough slide
Oh, boy. That coulda been more ugliness.
Here comes another 2 out rbi.
Who's the next infielder?
Way to go.
Ugh. Bad day for Judge.
Risp again. How about some insurance!
Yes!!!!!!!!
Luuuuuuuke!!!!
Luuuuuke!
A VOIT VOLT!
When Earl was the Os manager, his favorite was 2bloops and a bomb. Yanks do it twice today.
Chap always seems to have issues with a big lead.
One
One down.
Two
Two
Three
DJ with the play!
Huzzah. Cheers, y'all.
Three. Nice grab at 3rd. Good win. See you Saturday.
Nice W. The Yanks have now played 1 full game without an injury.
Something to build on here.
4 Dinger day.
Now can we lead off Gleyber?
And now a weird Friday off. But it's going to be raining all day and I'd rather not have someone slip and tear a muscle or something.
Wow. RAB is shutting down. At least BB is still here.
[160] Yeah. Big bummer. April 29 is the last day. Thankfully, the Banter lives on.
Ok, let’s win today
All rise
Damn shame about RAB but I got the feeling even last year that it was just a matter of time before Mike hung it up and moved on.
ALL RISE!
Having to close the comments on all the articles because of all nonsense that was going down really felt like a harbinger of the coming end.
Damn, nice play, Wade.
Judge!!
Mancini is going to bug us all season, isn’t he.
Wow. I didn't know Wade had that in him. Dammit, mancini.
Boom Boom Mancini punches the ball out to RF, 1-1.
Judge with the gavel!
I like it!
Nuts! Robbed!
Oof. Didn’t retouch second
Take that, shift
Uh oh, Mancini’s up. Why not Otto, it’s a fireman situation.
Well, semi phew
Dear Yankees. Don't fuck this up, please.
[178] Gary took that as a personal challenge
Well. At least he didn't tear his labrum. JFC!
And Gio for his seasonal debut
Well it’s a new way, starting with Gary getting picked off.
Well, that inning went to hell.
They should be fated to lose after that. Fucking Bollocks!
Not a solo homer opportunity so they punted
Well, bedtime for me. Gotta help dad fill in cracks in the garage floor tomorrow, will probably miss most of tomorrow’s game.
Deserve to lose.
Gee. I wonder what this 2 out risp outcome will be?
I will post my daily, Lead off Gleyber! On base 3 times today.
How did he not score there?????? Yanks playing such sloppy baseball, and the manager not making it easier....
3run bomb after typing that! Boom goes Frazier!
Clint!!!!
Whoo-hoo, Clint. Gone goes Frazier! Gone goes Frazier!
Homers cover up for so many deficiency on this team. It's literally all they can do to score runs.
So many mental errors.
Thank Mo.
Cheers, y'all.
Yanks are pulling out of their Doldrums but the Sox are still sinking further into the abyss.
Great to see big red’s quick bat puttin the Yanks on the Cadillac board.
LeMahieu has proved to be a great signing. If we lose Andujar for the year, we could do a lot worse than having DJ and his slick glove and hitting for a high avg.
I wish we could get Sanchez on track. They are at .500 and now something to build on.
Judge was crushing today!
[198] Wow, you are such an optimist. I wish I could see it like you. So, I won't say what I see. Thanks for being positive.
I am enjoying the Red Sox losing
Nothing better than Sunday afternoon baseball, after a morning softball double header. I was crushing the ball this AM!
Gleyber time!
liking the power. Gleyber just crushes the O's.
Out goes Frazier
Syndrome goes back-to-back!
Just back from dinner, nice to see a lead
Gary joins the party
Sancho!
STILL no runs scored off anything less than a dinger!
First base runner
a non hr rbi...
First run in the series without a HR!
Hey, you can score on something other than a home Run?
Damn, a hit
Still, a great start from the kid.
5th of the yeAR for Sanchez! !!!
Ah, that’s more like it, Gary
This is fun
Rats, shutout gone
Finally
Gary having himself a game! And double digits.
Gary goes boom!
wish Sanchez could catch half as well as he hits. 1sr 3HR game.
Methinks the Orioles will have a long, long season.
Huh ... trivia question right there.
Clint's having himself a game too. I'm happy for him.
out goes Frazier again!!!!
so they wave the flag and bring in a position player to pitch
Ouch.
Romine joins the club
in my league, mercy rule.
kinda glad Sanchez didn't get 4... would come with an asterisk.
Great win
a win is a win.
I ACCEPT THIS EXPLOSION OF HOME RUNS.
[235] A veritable plethora of home runs.
Ahh, a great present for a Nutheryearonearth >;)
Big Red might be the straw stirring the drink until we get Hicks and/or Stanton back.
Great Sanchize power swing!
They better take this momentum to Houston.
The Sox finally had a starter not give up 8 runs today.
Happy boithday, Chyll
Today’s game was a blast!
[238] Is it too soon to wonder if the Red Sox have dug themselves into a hole they can't get out of? It's 5-under .500 now.
[239] What he said! Hope you had a good one.
(241) They say you can't win it all in April, but you can lose so much that it hurts your chances in the end. The Sox hot start and the Yanks stumbling out of the gate might have been the reason the Sox were #1 for AL East and Yanks #2.
The Sox went on a ton of winning streaks last year, and I can see them taking off. The Yanks will have a real test with Houston now, but like the Yanks, they are sitting at .500 too.
When the Yanks start getting these guys back from the DL, it might be a while before they start to gel together. I'm glad that German and Frazier are getting playing time.
It was curious that the Yanks resigned Gardner so quickly last year? I guess the feeling was that it would be easier for him to come off the bench and not play everyday instead of Frazier, and perhaps they were worried about the concussion taking so long to heal?
The Yanks should keep German up in the bigs. Tanaka and CC (even when healthy) will not give the Yanks much more than 5 innings per start. It might be a good idea to give those guys an extra day of rest too.
Sucks that Tulo is injured again and not surprising. The guy was out of baseball for a whole year and he isn't a spring chicken.
Stanton and Hicks loss isn't being felt, since the Yanks have no loss of power right now, but they always hit the Os hard. Hopefully they can knock Houston around a bit before they get on track.
#243 Speaking of getting guys back:
Luis Severino is heading to New York for tests and further examination on his shoulder, Aaron Boone announced this afternoon. Supposedly Severino does not feel any pain, but he is “not where he needs to be” and isn’t making as much progress with his throwing program as expected.
Severino was shut down with rotator cuff inflammation on March 5th and he’s spent the last few weeks throwing down in Tampa. He’s been long-tossing at a distance beyond 120 feet, but has not been able to get back on a mound. That was initially expected to happen a week ago and never did
[244] Not good. Maybe ASB?
(244) Paging Keuchel.
Boras just added another 0 to Dallas' contract request to fleece the Yanks.
Sigh. ESPN announcers. One just said that with the roof open it feels like the outdoors.
Somehow I think this is going to be one of those long quick games ...
Shift that!
Ok, time to cash in.
Thank you Luke
VOIT!
Thanks for that, Gary.
Well, we got one ... and ran up the pitch count, so that's technically not nothing.
Grr
Beware the Terror Tot. 1-1
Hanging split, you don't see many of those???
WTF are talking about ESPN guy ... that was the #OBLIGATORYTANAKAHANGINGSPLIT
Idiot.
Had to do dishes, missed the Judge’s ruling
Gotta feel sorry for Chris Davis, 0-47. But he’s owed $90 million. Guaranteed.
Syndrome!
3-1!
Good job Tanaka
I know he hit a rope, but Sanchez had to lean out over the plate to pull it.
Him in a nutshell.
Ooof. From nutshell to nut shot.
OUCH, Gary.
John Sciambi & David Ross. Not two of ESPN’s finest
#265 Polite understatement there ...
Thanks a fucking lot, Britton.
Fuck
A catcher, "obsessed with defense", what a surprise!
This booth is AWFUL.
And boring. They are boring.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Bravo, bravo.
Shit. So much for our bullpen.
Gotta go walk the dog and then hit the hay. Night, Cult.
Night. See ya tomorrow night.
