Yanks in Boston for four games. A split would be good, anything less, a bummer, anything more, gravy.

Time to drive the Sox bufure us and hear the lamentations of their fans.
Fucking Hell! Atta boy, Tanaka.
When the only strikes you throw are the ones you have to... the ones they know are coming... welp
What the hell? I’m busy signing documents to sell my house.
Ugh, even worse.
This game will go to 1:30 am BTW.
This inning might go until then
Yikes, only bottom 3rd and already 7-2? I trust the Bombers to come back, though they must be a bit spent after flying from Minnesota last night.
They had a great chance, bases loaded 1 out and managed 1 run out of it.
Need to get a starter.
Need to get about 4 starters
Really necessary to leave Tanaka in there to give up 12 runs?
Ok, got the dumpster fire of a turn through the rotation out of the way. At a good time.
Need the Big Maple to let the sap flow tonight ... this run of starting pitching has been horseshit.
The last time the Yankees had such a bad stretch of starting pitching it was 1912, when they were the Highlanders.
Tarpley sent back down, Maybin called up before tonight's game.
Whoo-hoo!
You the man, Happ. Great start!
Well, that's just a great fucking start, Paxton.
Jeez, #obligatoryhomer.
Oh, yeah. Paxton. Him and Happ are interchangeably shite at this point.
So, Gleyber for Stroman now?
Great. Just great.
[20] Now, now, I don't think that's exactly true.
To borrow from Miracle Max, Paxton's only mostly shit.
Happ ...
And as I type that, JD Martinez destroyed a ball over the Green Monster.
Never mind, carry on ...
Paxton is awful...is this going to be a 4 game sweep?
Boston Massacre II: The Revenge!
A strike out for every run ... fun!
Sooooooooooo glad we didn't sign Patrick Corbin and his 140 ERA+ ... or Dallas Keuchel and his 131 ERA+, whatever would we have done with them???
Calm down everyone. This is just our way of letting the ShitSox’s ShitFans get their hopes way way up so that we can demolish them later.
[27] Broken them.
That’s better.
[29] Touche ...
Looked at the standings and felt better, but stil..
I’m feeling worse. Forget three true outcomes, this is two true outcomes.
2 runs away from 6 straight starts with 6 or more ... making history!
I am so tired of James Paxton. So. Tired.
Jebus, nobody can pitch for shit right now.
I hate to say it for a third time but Paxton is this year’s Sonny Grey.
I thought that was JA Happ ...
[37] I've been thinking the same. I know lots of pitchers brought in through trade and free agency have done well -- Tanaka, Mussina, Sabathia, Clemens, Wells, Cone, Key, etc. -- but I feel like there's only a fifty percent success rate. Sonny Gray jumps to mind, but there's also guys like A.J. Burnett. Randy Johnson was a disappointment, but that could've been just because he was past his prime. Happ did well last season, but not so much this year. Maybe it's just easier for position players to blend in, even when they're struggling. With a marquee free agent pitcher, there's no where to hide. Paxton now has four days to think about yet another awful outing, which obviously cranks up the pressure and makes success less likely. Anyway, it sucks.
Well, there's also the question of how healthy Paxton's knee is ...
Well, at least we're losing more slowly than last night, though the offense hasn't done shit, so maybe that balances it out ...
[34] History made.
Did I mention that I'm tired of Paxton?
That's my boy, Big Maple, way to cross the 6 run threshold with auth-or-i-tai!
So Tanaka and Paxton have combined for 19 earned runs on consecutive nights. And Paxton isn't done yet.
To riff on Nicholson's Joker, "This rotation needs an enema" ...
His pitching line is preposterous. He's struck out nine through four innings, which is pretty impressive, but then there are the two doubles, the triple, and the four home runs, which is not impressive.
I now understand how Jon Thorn felt when Gleyber was hitting all those homers in Baltimore earlier in the year.
The only drama at this point concerns the shutout streak.
I hope they intentionally walk Mookie in his remaining 3-5 at bats.
I'm playing Ringo Starr right now. "Ya know it don't come easy..."
The streak lives.
No shutout!!!
Why the hell isn't Hicks playing?
Streak intact.
Unless he was playing CF on top of the Monster, I doubt it moves the needle much ...
Considering our starters, right now the only logical assumption, is we get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. IF we make the playoffs.
[56] I mean as a pitcher!
Time for Battle Bots.
NOBODY can pitch on this team right now.
Coming up for the Yanks: Maybin, Tauchman, Romine. Not exactly murders row.
I'm out. Let's hope they can some how earn a split tomorrow. Who's pitching...Carl Pavano?
[61] He's on the DL, we're calling on Ed Whitson!
Dammit Oontz, that was not an optimal at bat.
[62] or Jack McDowell.
[64] Javier Vazquez!
Foul ball.
So much for replay.
Oh, Luke ...
[62] Good one!
I think Pavano is somewhere trading notes with Stanton. "How To Stop Worrying and Love the DL."
[69] Well, we'll know it's true if Stanton somehow pulls an ass muscle during rehab ...
HOW WILL CC SABATHIA GIVE UP 6 OR MORE RUNS TODAY???
Well, we're about to find out ...
Wait, no first inning runs. How is that possible?
Gio!
#obligatorycheapie
How can umpires still be *that* fat???
Not enough to overturn.
just checking in. What up with the Machine?
Tight groin, going for an MRI.
Gio! Again!
Le sigh.
And here we go.
4 runs down, 2 runs to go for the Fat Man!
Sigh.
EE!!!
Fucking A, Voit, you missed the meatball.
Only five runs for CC
IT'S OVER, THE STREAK IS OVER!
THE SCREAM SPARES CC'S 6TH RUN BLUSHES!!!
Off to walk the dog.
Well that didn’t work
And the horror show continues.
CSPAN is showing “a highlight from a recent senate session.” Almost preferable.
Higgy! Nice battle.
I’d have taken Nathan out, he’s at 30 pitches.
Well we knew this team has needed starting pitching and all Cashman did was bring back two old guys and Paxton so the fact that the starting pitching averages 6/7 runs a game is to be expected, especially now in this juiced baseball era. Speaking of which, now that the commissioner has made watching the first half of baseball games pointless, like basketball games, why don't we just shorten games to 3-4 innings and just do away with starters completely? I'm sure Cashman would approve.
Stroganoff to the frigging Mets?
[94] #HOTTAKE
[95] It certainly is a head scratcher ...
If we have to suffer through ESPN, it better be a win.
Great analysis by A-Rod.
1-2-3 top of the 1st.
Oh, joy ...
[97] No kidding ...
Belanges?
Dancin' Belanges?
Ze German!
This ESPN booth is sapping my will to live ...
Romine!
Lettuce celebrate ... a lead, an actual fucking lead!
Followed by an actual shut down inning. Be still my heart.
I love me some Didi! Booooom!
Arise, Sir Didi of the Boom Stick!
lousy wifi/cell. Happy DD didn't get robbed twice.
love how they are using the monsta
Why would the Mets trade for Stroman? Think they will turn around and trade him?
Oops for Ursh, but they gave him a H
sure wish Arod would tone down the praise of Domingo. Pedro? Schilling? Cy effing Young? So of course, a HR.
[111] that’s one theory. Another is that means they can flip Thor (to the Yankees, please please please)
I’d give up Clint & Deivi.
Sigh, #obligatoryhomer.
[113] I just wish Alex would STFU ... he's completely useless.
I suppose it could be worse, could be John Kruk and Joe Morgan in the booth ...
[115] Bite your tongue. Or keyboard.
[116] Somehow, One Nut is still broadcasting games for the Phillies.
No wonder why that city is always so angry ...
ok. Let's get a crooked number.
Nice double, Gio.
Atta boy, Gio!
Gio smokes it to CF!
Urshella is pretty good for a 3rd stringer
Maybin giveth and Maybin taketh away.
So Ze German walks the leadoff hitter, of course ...
Sigh.
Get him out now. Don’t fuck this up Boone.
Bull pen time.
Batter late but still salvageable.
It's Tahmmy time!
Phew
That'll do.
Happy birthday, A-Rod.
Awwwww ... Arod almost seemed human there.
Guess that was JLo with the glasses.
Damn, JLo just turned 50?
I feel old.
need a couple more.
I’m 68. I AM old
thank you Boston D
I LOVE this defensive doo-doo
I’ll take that error.
OH FER FUCK ... UH, YEAH!!!
Lolololololololol.....
agree with pitching change.
Off day tomorrow.
Ugh
I hate Fenway
[145] Blow it up. The clubhouses have got to be shitty.
This team always seems to channel Tina Turner on Proud Mary.
I hate Fenway.
Ha!
I want double digits.
Judge should homer here and then blast Sinatra in the clubhouse afterwards.
Of fucking course. Lead off walk.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH ... fucking leadoff walk.
Walk everybody!
Is A-Rod banging Jessica?
Bases loaded, blood pressure rising.
Britton has too much movement. No idea where it's going.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue ...
Has Britton done anything this year?
[157] It almost makes you think he should work on a 4-seamer, just to be able to get it over for strikes.
Another walk ... sigh.
That thing!
Do that. thing. again.
If Chapman gets them 1,2,3, the 1st round is on me.
[158] Looks like I picked the right week to keep drinking.
Lead off walk. Grrr.
One
[155] He should be. I would be.
I hope the card in his cap says throw strikes.
Umm
Two
Get this little twerp with a too long name.
I hate Boston. I hate ESPN slurping Boston.
Not what we Benintended.
Another 7 runs given up. Par for the course.
Finally, three. Night all.
Good. Glad that series is over.
Finally.
Well, no sweep.
That's ... something.
C'ya Tuesday!
It's all about the starting pitching.
I think the Yanks should call up Deivi Garcia and see if they can catch lightning in a bottle for the stretch run. They have a fairly commanding lead and this guy can't be any worse than what they are marching out there over the past week.
Wait until after Wednesday but even if they get a top arm, Tanaka doesn't have a splitter, Big Maple can't locate, CC is a 4 inning guy and the strength of the Yanks (Bullpen) will be gassed by October and or injured if this overuse takes place.
We can't wait for September and we should look within to eat up innings. It would be a shame to get fleeced for a rental arm.
The team that can help us the most (Mets) don't want to help.
Andujar and FRazier might be on their way out, but we should get a something pretty good in exchange as those guys can hit when healthy and maybe some other team can teach them how to play D?
Why do I have a crazy feeling that Cashman is waiting to see how Happ-less pitches tonite before deciding what he’s gonna to by 4 pm tomw
Oh ... joy ... a JA Happless start.
Be still my heart.
Fucking Happless.
Signing him instead of Corbin was a turrible, turrible SIW.
Happ in trouble from the beginning? Where did I put my shocked face.
Oh and we've got an URP on the mound tonight.
Fun, fun ...
Only one is good.
We're gonna get URP'd tonight, aren't we?
Jesus, Gio, WTF was that?
Nice catch, Judge
Of course #obligatoryhomer.
Interference.
I am beginning to fucking loathe Happ.
[191] He is extremely unpleasant to watch pitch.
Working at home today so only half an eye on the game, are Arizona any good? Don't really know any of their players except Greinke and Jones..
Are we getting fucking URP'd?
Yes, yes we are.
Un-fucking-real how we manage to make these rookie chumps look like quality.
Love me some goofy Paulie ... about the only thing going for this game: "for the last 3 months of her pregnancy, your wife ... is not your wife!"
[193] Yup.
The hell happened to Voit?
[194] I'd add the first six post-pregnancy months as well..
[196] Oblique?
This is pathetic.
Well, didn't see that happening.
112.7 mph exit velocity..imagine trying to catch that??
WE SHALL NOT BE SHUTOUT!!!
EE is a 'professional hitter' (hat tip to RIYank)
I keep wanting Wade to not be completely useless at the plate and ... he keeps shitting the bed.
Ah, just noticed the extended netting. Thank you.
Grrr.
I’ll say it again, Clint and Deivi for Trevor Bauer.
I should insult Tyler Wade more often, it seems.
[206] No, no, no. That'S wayyy too much, and doesn't factor in Bauer seeming to be a colossal D-Bag..
Well, that sucked donkey balls.
[208] He does have two more years of arbitration. You have to over pay. Plus there will be all those NYDN and NYP back page wins. He seems to be more a free spirit or eccentric.
Clint is spinning his wheels in AAA and I’d rather have a proven front end of the rotation starter than a hope.
Doesn't matter now, Bauer was traded to the Reds.
The Reds? The fucking bottom of the barrel Reds? Who have a small park. Mets get Stroman too. I no longer recognize this universe. What’s next, the Simpsons joke of Donald Trump being president?
(Please, no politics, just weirdness.)
Maybe Hal should stick Cashman in the minors to see if that raises his stock and then ship him the hell out?
[213] O.o?
Cleveland got a pretty nice score from the deal.
The Ringer's take:
https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/7/31/20748126/yasiel-puig-trevor-bauer-trade-cleveland-indians-cincinnati-reds-franmil-reyes
How about a win today?
Grrrr ... Gio, you should be on 3rd (probably won't matter, but still).
Oh, fer ####'s sake, #### off with talking about Greinke's grunting.
It's an actual nothing burger.
Alright Tauchman!
"Lou" Tauchman with a 2-run dinger!
One more fucking grunt reference and I'm switching to the D-backs feed.
Just. Shut. Up. Already.
Leadoff walk!
Wheeeeeeee!
If one walk is shitty, let's double down!
Uh oh, Didi.
Go,go Gio!!!
Ok, phew
4 pm - and nothing????
The hell with a Verlander, we got Alfredo Garcia!!!!
Which I had on my Italian-Mexican pasta last night.
4:20 and nothing?
Freddy sez - WTF??
Greinke to the Astros.
Dellin and Sevy and Lasagna better be close to coming back.
Hooray, comeback runs.
One more out, Chappie
There ya go.
Well, I gotta say Cashman really out did himself this time. Kiss the World Series goodbye.
The Red Sox couldn't pull off a deal either and you know that Dombrowski would offer the whole kit and kaboodle of their minor league system and the kitchen sink, since he doesn't care about the future. I guess this is encouraging because it shows how depleted the Red Sox system must be.
The Yanks were smart not to overpay. Not that many ace types to deal for. I think the Stros made the deal for Greinke also to make sure that the Yanks didn't get him. I know Zack has battled with a social anxiety disorder and didn't want to come to the Yanks years ago. Maybe he is over that, but the middle of a pennant race in the media market of the world is probably not the best time and place to see if he is healed.
I say bring up Deivi now and see if you catch lightning in a bottle. Go to a 6 man rotation to give these guys more rest and hopefully they can go longer in the games on more rest and not further tax the bullpen.
We are running out of calendar to get Severino back and some innings. Betances is also not ready, and he sometimes goes thru a period of shattered confidence and sucking in between brilliant play.
I'm also a little worried about our offense all of a sudden. If Stanton does come back, he has basically played a week, and will need reps to get up to speed. Voit might need surgery and could also take time to get MLB ready. We have some depth in the outfield, so Gardner being shelved for a while is not the end of the world. Having LeMahieu out for an extended period could be disastrous. We still have Sanchez on the shelf and he was having a great year, and this is just the wrong time to lose him. When Cashman got Encarnacion, I was wondering what he was doing adding another DH, with so many candidates already and now maybe Cashman knew that Stanton was injured worse than they let on.
The Yanks are pretty beaten up, and when you consider how much younger this team is from past incarnations, it is surprising to see so many guys going down. Not that CC and Gardner is a surprise. Getting the full team together as it was originally drawn up is perhaps too much to ask for, but I just hope enough of the pieces are in place, so you don't have the season depending on big stars with few ABs trying to shake off the rust in late September.
Shoulda traded Steve Donohue for a PTBNL.
I know it seems ridiculous and even slanderous to contemplate, but maybe the Yanks actually are being gouged by the other teams to the point that it would be a crime to make any of the deals that were mentioned to them in the first place? Maybe none of the trio of Greinke, Verlander or Cole (all of whom have often been mentioned as potential Yanks in the past) ever wanted to come to New York for various reasons (which also have been mentioned, but conveniently ignored of late)?
It fits a nice, easy and complacent news narrative to say that Hal and Cashman completely whiffed on getting the pitching they wanted because they would rather hoard unproven prospects, but perhaps the competition has gotten a lot smarter than when the Yanks were dominating the playoffs year after year, and those smart teams are not going to give the "Evil Empire" any kind of breaks whatsoever to get better when they already dominate offensively.
Syndergaard is not an inalienable Yankee right, nor was Stroman (though in this case, it was purely a dick move by Brodie and the Wilpons; an action Big George was something of an obsessive/compulsive with in his time). Greinke has made it plain he doesn't want to pitch in New York, Verlander has no love for the Yankees and Cole has avoided signing with the Yanks ever since he was drafted by them. Why should you compel someone to play where they will obviously be miserable, and why should we expect anything good to come out of it if they were? Let them go and do their thing. Cashman has an obvious flaw in his genius mythology (mediocre pitching talent evaluator) and other teams are exploiting it to the max. That's what really needs fixing at this juncture; find a pitcher whisperer for Cashman and Co. so they don't continue to look and act like complete dopes when the pitching continues to let them down in the playoffs.
And they better hurry and find that person, because whoever is filling that role now needs a swift kick in the stugats.
[239] Most likely they end up with a Player To Be Injured Later...
[238] I agree with you on bringing up Deivi; he's officially on the fast-track since Cash has basically said he's their future, so start giving the kid some conditioning for his eventual debut. Rotate the prospects in and out until the playoffs and keep the ones who contribute the most. Again, whatever the Yanks are doing now with starting pitching is not working out, so you gotta at least try something else if not to justify the decision not to trade them when the club was in need.
Also, I think Larry Rothchild is crossing his fingers and hoping Joey G. hires on somewhere significant so he can have a soft landing spot at the end of the season, if not sooner. No way he comes back in 2020 unless he has compromising photos (tho we all know it's really hard to blackmail Cashman).
If this goes off the rails I hope Washington and Houston meet in the WS so Cashman has to watch Scherzer, Verlander, Corbin, Zeinke and Cole pitch.
[240] Chyll is absolutely right about Greinke - he had the Yanks OFF of the list of teams he was willing to be traded to.
One other idea to consider. If Sevi is back in a while, have him become an opener, or perhaps plan on a midle-3 innings role for him. OTOH, he could be a great 8th inning pitcher this season, since I doubt DB will be back to form in time.
Here's hoping this weekend goes a whole lot better than last.
I hope Paxton shakes his first inning jitters tonight.
Welp, no. #obligatoryhomer.
JUST turned on the game to see Paxton give up another homer..sigh...
It's too early to be pissed off. Sigh. Goddamit, Paxton!
Looks like I picked the correct half inning to get my pork adobo into the slow cooker ...
Ara Just Fair, earlier here as I dive into laundry!
Looks like another 4+ hr game is coming..
No rally killers. Aaron. Just a single, dude.
Even better. P3.
Gleyber Day!
BOOM!!!
Hell yeah!
I can’t believe they got Gleyber for 2 months of Chapman..
I'm catching up ... EVERYBODY GLEYBER NOW!!!
Much better from Paxton
Greetings Banterers....
Some good comments Will.
And off topic (as Paxton gets thru 3)
Just how good is Mike Trout?
CAREER WAR
----------------------
Reggie 74.0 (51st)
Frank Thomas 73.9
Jim Thome 72.9
Arky Vaughan 72.9
Paul Waner 72.8
Jeter 72.4
Harry Heilmann 72.2
Mike Trout 71.1
Trout will finish the year in 51st place.
He will be 28 years old in a few days.
He is basically Mickey Mantle.
Damn, Gleyber just missed that one.
[260] With 2 healthy knees ...
Gah ... Yankees failing to add on and sweep the leg.
Sub optimal.
Blergh
Plays, fucking plays.
Also, Ball 4.
99 from Paxton
Nicely done from Big Maple
Some of the trade rumors I saw had demands for Gleyber. Way too much, even for Bauer.
Wow, what a play.
Gah. Fucking Devers.
[268] That's an understatement ...
Now, MOAR RUNS PLZ, before we have to go to Chapman in the 9th.
Heh, Kay has to remain silent. Gotta be killing him.
Now plate DJLM.
Atta boy, Zach!
Nope.
Buckle up. Here comes Aroldis.
One down.
There’s two
Le Machine for number three!
OONTZ with the grab!
4-2 ... nice!
Well done. Cheers, y'all.
Weird. August Friday night and not a full slate. Rays are off.
Night all.
Very interesting comments by Cashman this afternoon during a phone interview on TMKS.
TMKS 08/02/19 Brian Cashman Explains Standing Pat At Deadline ESPN-NY (24min)
[285] Thanks for the link. Doesn't seem like we'll be seeing Stanton anytime soon ...
Bob Costas in the booth for both games today!
Le Machine!
OONTZ!
1-0!
Still boggles my mind that Judge hasn't pulled a single HR this year.
How many games in a row has a Yankees pitcher given up #obligatoryhomer?
cult, enjoying Costas too. Benintendi not so much.
and exactly would is playing 2n
Urshella does it again.
the Machine still at it
He's not a man, he's a machine.
Hizzonor is in a pretty deep one.
Ze German!
Sometimes it's better to be lucky than to be good, eh, EE?
=)
Gio owns sale.
Damn you, Devers.
Grrrrr.
Bredablik Valero!
Atta boy, Kid!
RISP hits! Who is this kid?
GGBG!!!
Gritner joins the party
Grittner!
singles, singles, just like my softball team!
Le Machine is having a day
Le Machine cest magnifique
oontz, Oontz, OONTZ, OONTZ!!!
7-1!
YOU CANNOT STOP THE OONTZ!
I think the Yanks just love to see Sale's name in the lineup
Yeah Sale, it’s the ump’s fault you’re leaving fat pitches.
Gleyber obviously didn't get the memo ...
Go go, Gio!
German is on fire
Judge, however, is not on fire ...
Good thing that makes it 9-2.
You can ONLY WALK THE FUCKING PARROT IF THE BALL GOES OUT, EE.
Grrrrrrr.
I hate this God Bless America thing, but my dad would have absolutely loved to have been the Vet of the Game. Nice to see some WWII vets up there. [That's not political it's sentimental, BTW]
So is German in the Cy Young running? I'm not really following the rest of the League much.
Well, at least it's no longer the Kate Smith version, which I have always described as "as brassy as a fart in church and about as welcome".
[321] No.
[322] Plus, she was a racist right? [Ooops, now I'm pushing it.]
Nor should he be.
Verlander, Morton and Cole are all having better seasons.
[323] So you are gonna make me check the stats, to figure out the 'why'?
[325] Spoke too soo. OK. Thanks.
But LeMachine for MVP, right?
[326] Here's the tl;dr version; where they rank respectively in ERA+ for AL starters:
Verlander - 2
Morton - 3
Cole -5
Ze German - well, he doesn't qualify with enough innings yet, but he would be between 19th and 20th
[328] Is that Mike Trout's new nickname?
I mean at least as competition to Jersey Mike Trout.
[329] Today certainly helped, but he'd have to turn into peak Bob Gibson to even come close in ERA and even then he's not going to be anywhere close to the IP that those three will end up with.
nice inning for Holder
[331] Well, sure, if by competition you meant something like the 1899 Cleveland Spider playing the 1927 Yankees ...
Trout OPS+ 189
OONTZ OPS+ 139
Plus Trout plays a plus CF.
So, as competitions go, it's rather like this:
https://i.imgur.com/ugmpaAB.gif
Gawd but the Fox Sports crew is overly concerned about the Sawx. Smoltz must still be butt hurt over losing to the Yankees.
Well, LeMachine is 4th in hits. No competition in OPS. Higher skill position.
Trout WAR 7.1 - 1st
OONTZ WAR 4.4 - 7th
[334] I remember seeing that in the Midnight Movie special at our local theater. I can't remember what else was included. A classic.
Forget about Stanton, Paul.
Paul, the split double header is about greed. Two gates.
Ouch
Uh oh, that HBP could be bad ...
[334] [337] Schooled.
Welp, that's one!
[343] Not trying to, really, trust me, LOVES ME SOME OONTZ; he's been a terrific signing, especially since my reaction (and many, MANY others) was ... who? what? why?
But Trout is a freak, the 2nd coming of Mantle, so ...
excellent win
Nice win
[345] Who needs MVPs anyway? We are going for the WS. And we are momentarily on top the AL leaderboard again.
Great win. Well, I'm gonna try and check some Zzzzz before game 2. Maybe pick it up in the 3rd inning.
See y'all in a couple of hours!
Fer fuck’s sake, now EE to the DL.
Yeah, that HBP looked like it could be trouble.
So EE is on the IL. Strange starting lineup for NY. great start for Green
tho must admit that the wife has me on on a baseball clock.
treat to hear Costas, a true yankee fan, doing the game.
Looks like Gleyber's trying to another GS every at bat today, regardless of the game state.
Rats.
Now that EE is out, I was hoping we get to see Frazier again. Although, apparently Ford is coming up to take Eddie's spot. In fact, he's due tonight.
Shit
Doh!
#ObligatoryHR
If Kay is a hamburger, Costas is a wagyu steak.
Well, that carried
2-1
Gleyber redux
Maybin!
Hah! Didn't get that one Devers, did ya!
Uh, oops!
Oy vey
Doh! Cam? Damn!
Ah, Ford made it.
Don't blow your Chance, Adams.
I would think Boone-y is taking a big chance going to Adams in this situation ...
Oh ... joy.
[371] and lost.
OONTZ flashing leather!
Gleyber Gleyber!!
Gleyber thrice! Tied up. Nope not even Trevor Bauer was worth a trade.
I don't think 3 Trevor Bauer's would be worth the trade, I don't think Bauer is all that good.
YOU THE MAN, MIKE!
Wow. My feed got all messed up on both my units, so I took a nap. Guess I missed a lot of Gleyber Day Fireworks. Bis. Boom. Bah.
Bob Costas should be the full-time announcer for ... EVERYTHING
[380] Well, he's been the announcer for this entire day. That's a start.
Phew.
wife let me tune in..... nice Briton
Game. Stare. And Match.
Time for lunch out here. One more for the sweep tomorrow. Seeya then.
I like it. Cheers, y'all.
Supposedly Hicks is set for an MRI after tweaking something on a throw.
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
JFC. We're bound and determined to see Frazier. So say the baseball gods.
ok. watching the ESPN feed, so is La Machine a legit MVP candidate? think so
gardie, maybin, ford, higashioka, tachmen second half of order?
Rats, rain delay. Though I suppose necessary if there’s lightning.
Anyone got an update on the delay?
Brian Hoch is reporting 8:15 potential start.
Thanks
Tarp is off
Argh, it's Hapless on the mound today. Hopefully he can keep the Sox to 6 runs or less.
Always a joy to experience the ESPN booth.
/s
A clean first inning!
Yeah, they seem disappointed Boston has spit the bit.
Crushing price would be the cherry on top of this series.
I think crush him, or just make him have a temper tantrum. Either would be fun.
:)
All rise
Arod: Judge is not being a predator
Judge: Hold my beer
Definitely need to crush, stomp and humiliate Price now.
ALL RISE!
1-0
Matt I don’t want to hear one goddamn word about Boston’s injury woes
ESPN should haven gotten Costas, Paulie and Cone to do this game.
Not sure how Bend-it-like-tendi missed that.
Nice to know ARod can count to 3
Higgy, could have been a triple, but he’s a catcher and he’d have torn his hammy.
Alex is such a squid.
And Gio is a stud.
Yum.
That'll do. Hot damn, Gio!
GO GO GIO POWER!
3-0!
439ft!!!
Finish him!
Need some Price is Right music...
I love BP in the 3rd inning.
How do ya like it, cora?
Baseball is fun this year.
Mission accomplished.
Boston can now make plans for October.
Like cliff diving?
Into an empty pool.
Welp, #obligatoryhomer
JBJ with a nice catch to rob Ford.
Also, Ford seems the perfect "very large human" to replace Voit.
Oops, behind the action.
Question should be if Happ makes the playoffs roster, not where he slots in the rotation
Bullpen mop up duty in a blowout either way.
Rally towel waving cheerleader.
I’m out, night all.
Dammit.
You really have to make Sam Travis hit the ball, instead of pitching to Benintendi with two on.
Fucking HAPPless.
Although, this one's also kinda on Boone-y for not anticipating a Happ implosion at some point, especially after the two solo shots last inning.
This qualifies as a good start for Happ. Best you can expect.
Does Boone ever make moves prior to the 6th inning if an implosion hasn't already occurred?
Are you kidding me?
Twice in an at bat???
That one was off his shin, owwwwwwwwwwww.
I'm telling you, a priest, a rabbi and a medicine man to the stadium, stat!
I had to log back in. Fer double fuck’s sake. DL, and keep it at ten days, who we got at SWB for 3B?
Well at least he didn't die.
[438] What.... no parrot?
Please take Gio out and back up the ice truck for him.
[437] Well, this *was* the 6th, Happ is, well, HAPPless. Having Cessa start getting ready at the top of the inning is kind of a no brainer.
Of course, another course of action, is to have two guys getting ready to throw, Cessa and a short reliever. Not throwing per se, but ready to throw at a moment's notice.
If HAPPless makes it through the inning, Cessa warms from the 3rd out on through the Yankees' half-inning and is ready for the 7th.
If anyone gets on, your short reliever cranks it up and is ready to finish out the 6th before Cessa is 1/2 warm.
[439] It would be Thairo Estrada coming up.
I wonder if Cashman is calling ESPN asking for AROD's removal from the booth?
Oh joy, Torres left the game, replaced by OONTZ.
[444] If someone gets me the number, I'll call ... I find him essentially unlistenable.
I mean, not Kruk-level bad (Alex is banal, not irretrievably stupid), but he just adds nothing for me.
[446] He also WAY over-flatters (is that a word?) the players he's currently talking about. He said the Yankees have 4 GGs on their infield. Think about that.
Heh, it looks like Large Human Mike Ford even wears his uni top unbuttoned like Voit does.
Well, I'd say Gio is pretty close, OONTZ actually *has* 3 and Sir Didi is no slouch, so slight/moderate oversell on those 3; I have no idea who he thinks the 4th is.
Oh joy, a "Boston sucks" chant.
Just shut up, idiots.
The Scream gave him the GAS FACE!
Sweet sweep. Cheers, y'all.
Lovely, just lovely.
What a difference a week makes in the feels department.
Gio appears to be sore but fine, Gleyber headed to the hospital for tests regarding a "core issue".
Wheeeeeeeee!
So glad that the Yanks could usher Boston out the door. This must be a really frustrating state for Boston as they haven't had nearly the same injury issues as the Yanks and returned essentially the same roster minus Kimbrel, who was a shaky closer anyway.
This Yankee squad keeps churning along and is tied for the best record in baseball. It does cause concern that more guys keep dropping off, and the pitching may be spent. But wins now will provide cushion in September. It would be great to be top seed as the Yanks are amazing at home but not at the expense of well-rested arms and bats.
I hope Severino can get moving and anything we get from Bettances is gravy. September call ups will be a welcome sight indeed.
Gio is ok, but being rested tonight.
Tests on Gleyber came back negative and he's in tonight's lineup at DH.
Phew.
I loved sweeping the Sox (like, duh!), but if it cost 4 players hitting the IL, I wouldn't be nearly so happy.
2 is bad enough, but at least Go, Go Gio and Gleyber Time are ok.
(456) What worries me most about the Yanks is that they are going to get a lot of guys back for the last stretch and they might not be ready with their timing. The first round is the most concerning to me. In a best of 5 series and the Yanks not having the best starting rotation. So far they keep rising to the occasion but how many guys can they keep pulling out to get them over the finish line? What the hell is going on with Stanton? I hope he doesn't become another Ellsbury. Stanton had injury issues with the Marlins too. I know he essentially picked the Yanks and all it really cost them was money and Sterling Castro but that money would have been better spent on 2 other guys or a stud pitcher. After getting rid of ARod, I would have thought they learned their lesson.
I get the Orioles feed. Hope to hear more despair from Gary Thorn
C'mon Tanaka, getting to 0-2 doesn't mean, "time to fuck about"
Seems the Os broadcast team hates dead air. Yeesh, you don’t have to fill every second.
Lettuce celebrate that solo shot!
1-0
Oh good, dog walking worked.
Nailed
Sir Didi with the relay!
also stuck with o's feed. yuck.triple A quality. otoh, so is that ny starting lineup.
wtf eas Romine thinking?
Looks safe to me
nice surprise. not a good call, but I accept it
next man up!
I accept that bad throw.
no rbi for the Machine? lets talk to the scorer.
Hey Banter, what's shaking? Left my house at 0745 today, was already about 7000 degrees outside. I imagine the same in downtown B'more as I remember there being sickly humid in the summer.
Btw, is Stanton done for the season? Severino? Why no news?
Sevy has started throwing, Stanton is active, but “no baseball activities (whatever that means) yet.”
Severino is currently scheduled to throw from a mound for the first time on Friday.
Here's a full run down from 2 days ago
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/yankees-injury-updates-luis-severino-close-to-returning-to-mound-didi-gregorius-expected-to-avoid-injured-list/
[473][474] Thanks, need to catch up on the 野球 blogs this morning, been offline a few days.
Uh, Your Honor, I appreciate the catch, but I flinch when you make a diving play like that. That's a really good way to do your wrist.
Just a bit high.
Gritner!
#OBLIGATORYHR
6-3
Yup, #obligatoryhomer.
[480] Like clockwork.
Can't believe the O's still play Chris Davis, why not just eat the contract already?
This is not good.
Why is Tahmmy just getting warm?
nice catch Gritner.
What a trash inning.
Thanks Tanaka and Tahmmy.
Hmmmm.....checked in at 4-1. Got in car at 6-3. Parked car and went inside and it's 6-6. Fucking Bollocks!
Blech
Ford!
Ford with the drive!
7-6
Boom goes Tauchmann! Insane how much production they've got this season from previously unknown guys.
Two down.
O’s announcers a bit less chatty now.
Sir Doh!Doh!
Uh oh
There ya go. Night all.
That'll do!
See everyone tomorrow.
That was interesting. Cheers, gang.
Nice win in Camden Go Yards.
Again, Boone was too slow to yank the starter. The offense saved his ass again.
Tanaka just wiggled out of the 5th. He should have been batter to batter in the 6th.
Come on, Booney. Wake the fuck up.
[500] Ought to start calling him Rip Van Boone-y, because it seems he's permanently asleep ...
Crap, rain delay.
Doesn't seem too broad.
Tarp off
Anybody got a start time?
I saw 8:15 to start.
Right on time.
Ok, not a swing.
Well, that was a let down.
Rats,
Tauchman!!!
33 of the season vs. Baltimore. A new record, surpassing what they set last night.
34, a new record, surpassing what they set last batter.
OONTZ!!!
As the visiting team, that is.
Sir Didi goes boom!
3-0.
And reset once a gain two batters later.
Orioles broadcast indicates Yankees are closing in on the record for HRs against a team, which stands at 48 for the Yankees against the 1958 Kansas City Athletics. Yankees have 43 against the Orioles this year, with 5 games remaining, plus 6 more innings tonight.
I want 50.
And I hate Villar. Reminds me of Kevin Millar.
Any time you want to pull Holder is fine by me Booney-brah
Openers should only go two. Person. End of sentence.
Even though A Mud Hens game I was at one Time was a bull pen game. Starter gave them 5 innings of one walk ball. Next guy went two with only one walk. Last guy went two with nothing.
Hey we can score without home runs vs. the O’s?
Um you might want to give him a concussion check.
Holy shite! What robbery!
Um, Gleyber’s out? What happened?
Ugh, shit.
I’m getting tired, out.
[524] I imagine Gleyber has that "core issue" they said he didn't have.
[526] Night.
[527] MORE injuries..Inconceivable!
Another Romine tater! Inconceivable!
Lettuce give thanks for Romine!
6-4
Maybe Kraken ought to take a few more games in AAA to get his swing back and make sure he's totally healed.
[528] You keep using that word. I don't think it meets what you think it means. ;>)
Sachino better hurry up and get back before Romine turns into wilted lettuce again.
I think we are in the sweet spot right now, but he has a shelf life.
[531] Doh. "means" not "meets."
[533] I got ya, :)
Enjoying your morning runs in the sauna outside, Boat? Walked from Shibuya Stn to the office today, bad move..
[532] He ain't wilted yet!
Update - Gleyber Torres left tonight’s game with “core pain”
Almost as unreal as the number of injuries the Yankees have suffered this year, is how inept the Yankees' medical staff and injury-related decision making seems.
Just put him on the fucking IL and let him get 100% healthy and quit fucking around.
Boone-y in-game pitching tactics continue to baffle the fuck out of me.
GGBG and Curtis go back-to-back!
This year might have been very different if not for these juiced balls.
6 HRs tonight.
47 HRs against the Orioles this year.
That's 1 shy of the all-time record for HRs against a single team in a single season.
Yankees play the Orioles 5 more times.
[539] If Congress won't let you juice the players ... juice the ball!
Another win, though potentially overshadowed by whatever Gleyber's injury turns out to be.
C'ya tomorrow.
[534] Well, I'm on the IL with a banged up pinkie toe. Same one I broke last year. Not a bad part of the year to be sidelined and soaking up the A/C though.
[536] The whole Gleyber thing is puzzling. They've been so careful with others....or have they?
(536) (544) I agree on Gleyber. You have a real soft spot on the schedule and a fairly large lead and just delivered a knockout blow to Boston.
Maybe they wait a few days and see how he feels before the IL, but not to stick him in the first game.
Perhaps Gleyber's total dominance over the Os in Baltimore, that he lobbied hard to play? But Boone has to look out for him, and make the adult decision here. We are missing: Hicks, Stanton, Voit, Encarnacion, Bird (of course we are)Bettances, Severino, CC, Sanchez and Gio is banged up. I have a feeling that they brought back Voit too soon too.
The conditioning coach, and medical staff might need a large overhaul after this year.
A few years ago, the Yanks had a much older team and hardly had anywhere near this many injury issues.
Sometimes it is younger players trying to do too much, and perhaps not communicating an injury or the extent of the injury?
No DL for Gleyber. Phhhheeeew.
really telling...... nobody in the stands. not long ago, yankee games were sell outs. usually tons of ny fans.
Gardi just loves playing in Camden Yards
So is Davis the worst big contract ever? arguable
Worse than Ellsbury’s?
[543] Bah! Just lop the sucker off!
[550] How much insurance money have the Yankees been able to collect on Taco?
[552] I don’t know, I’ve seen some reports of 75%, Don’t know if that’s standard.
So it turns out Stewart does have a concussion. No shit, he didn’t look right, yet the manager didn’t send the trainer out to check on him.
Go go Gio!
Maybin with the RISP hit.
Wow, the Orioles are so bad at ...everything.
Yeesh.
Whoa.
That is the best play in baseball, ya heard?
Higgy! That’s now what, 48 on the year tying the Yankees all time record vs. one team.
Gettin' Higgy wit it!
They might get to 50 tonight. Then four in the Boogie Down. 2.5 per game and it’s 60.
Stanton now hitting off a t.
Jays over Rays 4-3, final.
At this point, Stanton should just figure on getting healthy for next season. And I'm fine with that.
Geez, Texans over Broncos, two touchdowns to a field goal.
I mean, Astros over Rockies.
#OBLIGATORYHR
Oh, gee!!!!!!
Urshella. ..
Is that what Sterling says?
Gio! #49.
Go Go Gio!!!
This team is on fire! Always nice to play the O's though.
Hearing about all these HR records is boring AF. The records don't mean anything anymore. Home runs are a dime a dozen.
So now we have 40 homers at Camden Yards this year.
The Tigers have 37 in Comerica Park.
Oops.
Sorry Boatzilla!
[574] What is this? 1920???
OONTZ!
7-1
8-1
Man, you can hear the despair in Thorn’s voice.
Are you freaking kidding me?
Damn.
Andujar must be starting to sweat.
mlb needs to think about a mercy rule
8-1? Guess I can spend the morning with Afropop.org podcasts instead of the game.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Go Go Gio with his 2ND 2-run bomb of the game.
10-1.
[583] Yeah, no, not 8-1.
Andujar must be starting to sweat.
Fine by me, maybe he'll be inspired to learn how to make a proper throw to 1st.
about the only reason to go to Camden Yards is Boog's BBQ
This is starting to seem unfair. If it was a the Red Sox, I'd say pour it on but...
One could say, the Yanks should rest their regulars now, but they have no regulars.
Yeah it's sort of embarrassing. I mean, I feel like looking away.
Yup, 50. And double digits
I can split time with Forged in Fire.
My brother just reported that he's in a bar in Kennebunkport, and the locals have turned the tv to ESPN8 to watch dodgeball.
(The point being, RSN has officially Lost Interest.)
Has anyone mentioned that after this game the Magic No. is 38?
[593] ESPN OCHO!
Somewhere, Bill Simmons smiles.
[596] That's what my brother said!
Ok, I missed the Chris Davis imbroglio. Team fine and suspension for a few days.
[598] What happened there?
This team is going to win 100 games with an all-time high IL roster. Got to give Boone some credit for keeping things together.
[598] What happened?
Opening day SWB lineup would have a winning record against these Birds.
Manager said something to Davis on Judge reaching base, possibly insufficient hustle. Davis had to be restrained from going after him.
It must be incredibly frustrating to be Chris Davis.
I mean, to be, or to have been, that good, and now have to face the fact of being a terrible player.
Oh shut up Thorn, Boston is done.
Yawn.
Another one.
51!
[603] For sure. Long term the money is nice, but day-to-day as a player having to see your own stats..yikes.
HIGGY CANNOT BE STOPPED!
Jeez.
Okay, let's stop now.
This is plain silly.
Higgy has more HRs than Stanton. You can't make this shit up.
I always thought you should be able to bank runs.
Um, had to walk the dog, didn’t need to invoke that magic.
52, now only have to hit 8 in 4 games in the Bronx.
Mercifully over
[612] Yeah, I've had that thought. Like, you could trade them two-for-one. We could cash maybe 8 of tonight's and get four for an important game.
Well, not exactly a great game, but it did remind us that it's fun to be a Yankee fan this year!
What if everyone in the team finishes with more homeruns than Judge and Stanton combined? :P
And hey, no new injuries.
