Game Three. Brilliant sunny autumn afternoon in New York. Yanks and Luis Severino against the best pitcher in the league and those damn ’Stros.
Here’s hoping the Yanks come out on top.
Never mind the strikeouts:
Let’s Go Yank-ees!
No Stanton (he's supposedly "available" off the bench) and GLEYBER! back to hitting 5th.
Never mind the bollocks, here's the Yankees!
Let's go Yankees!
Beautiful day in New York, almost regretting that I have to stay inside to watch the game, but not the worst way to spend a Tuesday afternoon :)
A few hitters are absolutely due, regardless of the quality of the Houston pitching: Gary and Edwin in particular. I have a lot of faith in this team, though.
Come on, Luis
That's a huge shock. Fucking little fucker.
Fucking Terror Tot.
Ugh.
Sigh. #obligatoryhomer
Loud Astros contingent in the Stadium, it seems.
C'mon. Luis! Get outs!
35 1st inning pitches. Always a portend of awesome things to come.
Way too many pitches.
That's a Fucking strike, blue! Oi!
Brutal beginning for Sevy
This is a disaster..I got up at 5:30 for this??
Oh, good. Tyler Lyons is the first guy warming up. Joy
Cole better have this loaf of bread sized strike zone, JFC! Here's the game 20 minutes after the 1st pitch.
Lyons is akin to the white flag.
I was really nervous on Sunday. That loss deflated me. My confidence level in today was very low before it began. Now? . . .
Only 36 pitches and 1 run...
One run--- nice work to get out of it, especially working with a small strike zone. I really hope that Boone lets him work for a few more innings, or until his pitch count is up. I really, really do not like the idea of Lyons coming in early.
I’ll be able to watch a few batters here and that’s it. Headed to work. I’ll listen to John and Suzyn in the car, then will be teaching throughout the rest of the game. I’ll try to sneak a peak at the score here and there...
Yeesh, obviously could have been worse, but ... not good, Bob!
It’s supposed to start raining down here at the top of the hour and continue straight through tomorrow morning. After that, I guess it races up to the Bronx. Of course, I’d be able to watch tomorrow’s game in its entirety, but it’ll be rained out...
Nice, DJ!
Give us the lead, Judge.
Up the middle, Machine. You da man.
I’ll take that hit
Fail #1.
Unproductive. Fuck
Just one hit Gritner!
[27] we have to get to Cole here.
Should’ve bunted and beaten it out.
Pathetic
Fail #2.
Probably the best opportunity we’ll have all game...
Only 10 pitches so far
I’ll take a HBP here
Come on Didi.
Cole talking more than most pitchers
Sure would have liked that walk in the 3rd spot.
Fail #3.
EPIC FAIL
Cole doesn’t look too on...so there’s that at keast
SAD TROMBONE!
That first pitch shit from Edwin and Didi is not good at all!
Bill Mazeroski
Joey Cora
David Eckstein
Juan Pierre
Jose Altuve
Yanks always come into a series fearing the big bopper and it's always some pesky little fuck who does the damage.
On Twitter, A-Rod is saying that Sevy was definitely tipping his pitches.
[44] Let's hope Rothschild is following A-Rod.
Oh. Joy.
Is this game over?
Unfuckingbelievable.
And with that, I’m out. Headed to teach. What a bunch of fucking bollocks.
This is over..5:45am here, I’m going to get some work done while keeping the game on in the background :(
[46] season.
Quit throwing your jv slider ferfuck’s sake!
[44] My grandmother could have launched that last slider into the 2nd deck ... and she's deceased.
Thre runs off Cole? Doubtful.
well, we appear to be fucked now. We're not scoring 3 runs off Cole.
His tip is, here, hit my shit slider.
Hey, it's me playing 3rd base on my softball team.
that fielding play was pretty demoralizing, damn. lucky nothing came of it-- brantlely is a very good hitter and we conceded the stolen base quite easily. there is a sense i get watching severino that he is simply trying to strike people out rather than settle for ground ball outs, soft flyouts.
What happened to K-Zone?
Great AB by Hicks. Cole doesn't have a K yet, that's a good sign..
Great at bat by Hicks. 10 pitches. I guess we can take comfort in knowing that Cole's at 32 pitches. Still he went to 118 and 107, so we need more of that.
Oontz laughs at your surrender (and mine, too)!
[59] I mean he threw 118 and 107 pitches in his last 2 starts against Tampa.
A score truck would be nice here.
Hopeless. At least Gardner and Edwin are coming up next inning.
dj is such a wonderful hitter. at least we have that.
Sevi got through that inning fast. If Cole's going to struggle, maybe we'll find out now. I just want Gritner to foul off 10 pitches and draw a walk.
[65] Still early, if they can keep it at 2-0 and drive Cole from the game..
[66] let's hope so.
Nice patience by Edwin there.
Gardner and EE have been AWFUL..&%$#"$"&
Gardner had no chance and Edwin looks like garbage.
cole had a scary rhythm in that inning-- how about a bunt? some stolen bases? especially if gardner is looking like this..
Gardner and Edwin made 2 outs on 4 pitches combined. At least Gleyber saw 9 pitches.
I hate playing the counting game against an opposing pitcher because it nearly always becomes futile. Even so, Cole is at 51 pitches through 3 innings. They need Sevi to last 5 innings and keep it at 2-0.
Cue up Yakkity Sax, fer fuck's sake.
At least not a homer.
That was very odd..did the wind take it?
Can't let this run score..
Onions! Let's go, O! For the love of Mo!
Severino really bounced back after that awful 1st. Can the O now get up some runs?
Sterling just said that was Sevi's 90th and "undoubtedly last pitch." I really hope they can get him through 5. The pen is going to be needed this week and 1 inning could help.
No one is up in the pen.
Good thing Sanchez is batting 7th.
Can we bat him 10th?
Interesting.
come on dj!
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!
arrrrrrrgh. At least Cole is at 70 pitches through 4 innings.
Still savages. Most of them. They will break through.
Dammit
Now an ump is injured.
That's weird. Never saw that before.
Good thing they are being cautious with the concussion. He had his bell rung twice.
Hey, just caught up. Had to work. Some good at bats. But not finishing the job. Still, Cole’s pitch count is way up which is something.
So how long is this delay going to be? It’s very odd
There not flying in Joe West are they?
[91] I vote for 35 minutes to let Cole get cold.
[93] do you mean Cole-d? Sounds good to me
Ok he looks tired
Hmmm....3 laps around block and this
Zoinks! 2 outs.
[94] Very Punny!
Phew.
Mean Chad Green. Time for a....crooked number?
It's an RISP fail night for both teams.
[94] Cole got his last out at 5:49. His next pitch will be at about 6:22, so maybe the 33 minute delay will reduce how sharp he is.
My internet just went. Crap
[99] Does "11" count?
[101] let’s hope.
2 pitches for that. Ugh.
Internet back!
Judge’s at bats have not been great
I'm ready to bench Gardner.
Not hopeful here. EE has been terrible
They're bound to cash in, right?
Nice! I’m glad to be wrong!
Gotta get EE in. Come on Gleyber.
[110] YES
Take a pitch, Didi. Let's go, dude!
Great at bat, Gleyber!
[114] lean into one
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
Or that. Mother fucker!
ARRRRRRGH. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. Dammit.
Damn those unjuiced balls. Damn them all to hell!
So...damn...close...
Cole is up to 89 pitches through 5 innings. Hopefully he's gone by the end of the 6th. If he is, and it's only 2-0, we'll win this MF game. I'm out.
Hey, Smoltz. Take your 1 ring and shove it.
They keep pimping on fly outs
Gary is always 0-2.
Darn it, walking the dog didn’t work.
Cole should throw 130 pitches. Why in the hell would hw be taken out?
Ugh. Those wasted opportunities are going to come back to haunt us
[127] They’d be stupid to do it. But he certainly has good enough stuff.
It’s not like the homer was off of a good slider. It was off a hanger. So it wouldn’t affect this at bat
Zero in. Zero walks a dude. Zero makes me stabby.
He has been absolutely Fucking worthless. Holy shite!
Ottavino just looks like tired arm guy. Has for the past 6 weeks. He was way overused
This game is annoying.
Hard to criticize in such a heated moment but I think that goes a lot better if LM throws to third.
Altuve could take a shit on the field and Smoltz would smell roses
I mean, after he chased Altuve back there, not right away
Oh fuck this
Free runs!!! At least Gary is hitting. Sigh.
Oy vey
If IBB earlier why not here?
I dunno, Bret
That's not what you want.
Cue Hicks.
No, the *other* Hicks ... "GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER!"
Death, taxes, and the Yankees offense disappearing in October. At least this decade.
I don't understand why they batted Gardner 3rd.
Hicks looked better and he has been out a while.
Looks like the savages have been put back in their cages. Shite inning.
Even the commercials are pissing me off. Lol
Two more chances. Will we see Porcelain Stanton?
[150] I don’t get Stanton not being in the lineup. Boone made it very clear it was his decision not to play him. What are we saving him for?
They did get Cole's pitch count up and looked a lot better than Rays. They just couldn't capitalize with all the walks and hits.
[152] yep very true
[150]. I would have preferred having Ford instead of CC on the roster. We have almost no bench.
Cessa > Happ
Looooooooooooouis!
[154] There is no logical reason nor any reason to have CC on the roster. It doesn't make one ounce of sense.
Thanks, Hinch. Dumbass.
A spark?
A splunk.
I didn’t think they could overturn that
Awesome!
Good thing Gleyber is batting 5th tonight ...
Finally!
Finally a run
[161] Didn't look clear and obvious to me, but announcers said he got the helmet.
Aew they going to show a definitive replay that EE was out. Not satisfied. Gleyber Day!
[162] Hopefully the Gardner batting 3rd experiment is over.
gleyber! so good!
And like a good neighbor....
[167] I'm sure Boone-y will learn that lesson ... in time for next year's playoffs.
....Torres is there. He's EVERYWHERE!
Atta boy, Gary. You'll hit one out of the infield one of these games.
Ugh to Gary. When he is bad at the plate, he is really bad at the plate.
Torres, Judge and DJ are the only ones hitting. The rest of the line up is garbage.
[167] That would be nice but what would be better is if he learned that Ottavino should be treated like the Holder/Cessa/Cortez of the world, rather than deploy him like he's some kind of elite reliever, because he sure as hell is not.
I just watched that replay of EE at first a dozen times. I was getting more and more irate until I finally saw the glove nicking the helmet. Heavy sigh.
Maybe Stanton pinch hits for Gardy next inning if it gets that far.
Smoltz on the Cole recap: “That was the only fastball strikeout; everything else came on something spinning.”
Um, fastballs spin. Anytime Cole wants to break out the knuckler he’s welcome.
I know what he means. I know I’m being a dick. I’m just mad.
[175] You know what we’re seeing?
The Binder.
‘That’s up”. Umm no it was a strike.
Everything is a strike to that first base umpire.
Maybe Cessa will bump up in the pecking order
[181] he’s brutal for sure
Nice work by Cessa. And I don't mind him plunking Bregman.
Couple bloops and a blast. Or several bloops and some walks, wild pitches, and ghastly errors. Just win baby!
Ridiculous
This is the game of the loud out.
You can't win a series with no starting pitching and scoring 1 and 2 runs a game. J.F.C!!!!!
So much for game #3.
See y'all ... Thursday?
Tomorrow, tomorrow....or the day after.
We knew the starting pitching wasn't up to snuff but everyone in the media gave Cashman a pass and will probably do the same when we pass on Cole in the offseason. As for the offense, you can't win championships just by hitting homers. DJ, Gleyber and Judge always puts forth strong ABs even when they fail. In other words, they don't just pad all of their numbers against weak opponents (see Gary).
Or spending the entire season on the DL due to a hang nail (see Stanton)
[191] Cashman doesn't sign the checks and George ain't walking through that door any time soon ...
[193] Yeah I know. I also know that Cashman's death star still isn't fully functional and we just saw Altuve, the ewok put a big hole in the side of it.
[194] Well, Ewoks do tend to be bad news for semi-functional Death Stars, IIRC.
Looks like the Nats for the sweep.
Or maybe there’s a chance.
You live by the homer you die by the homer.
Uh oh, hitting a Molina in the postseason is dangerous. Do not provoke a Molina.
Nats dodged a bullet there.
Can't believe how happy I am for my Nats. So different than the Yanks: great starters, awful pen, scoring runs the old-fashioned way. Still hoping to see them face the Yanks. Bryce Who? Happy birthday to Ted Lerner!(and please resign Tony Two-Bags!)
Just saw game 4 rained out.
[202] Awesome. That means Boone will probably use his entire pitching staff regardless of how well Tanaka pitches. At this rate, I don't want this team to go after Cole in the offseason. Why pay someone 35-40 million a year just to pitch 5-6 innings.
Is it just me or did Houston's manager blow a layup by scheduling Verlander to pitch game 5?
Still no Stanton, but you can’t drop him.
