I'll say it again. A one year deal for $18 million, with a handshake deal for a 10 year, $200 million contract after the 2014 season.

And who says he earned the right to a big contract. Not so good looking yesterday. Didn't show up in the post season. Strikeout looked bush. I say trade him and build from the returns. Not the kind of player to build a team around, despite the World Baseball tourney antics. Scary. Nix to the season.

Hee-hee, Boras is pissed!

4) Sure he has earned the right. He had a lousy post season. So did Willie Mays and Mike Schmidt. How yesterday has anything to do with anything I don't know. He's probably the best second baseman in baseball and he's been good for more than a couple of years now. That said, 10 years? I wouldn't do it. Six or seven, I'd bite the bullet. I think your idea of trading him makes sense but it'll never happen.

I wonder if he quit Boras using these words:

In search of victory, she keeps saluting me
If only we can be together momentarily
We can make love, and make history
Why won't you visit me, until she visit me
I'll be stuck with her sister, her name is defeat
She gives me agony, so much agony
She brings me so much pain, so much misery
Like missing your last shot, and falling to your knees
As the crowd screams, for the other team
I practiced so hard for this moment victory don't leave
I know what this means, I'm stuck in this routine
Whole new different day, the same old thing
All I got is dreams, nobody else can see
Nobody else believes, nobody else but me
Where are you victory, I need you desperately
Not just for the moment, to make history

career .308/.351/.503 with a 37.6 WAR? Yeah, I'd say he's earned a payday.

I have asked this as a hypothetical before, but usually too late to get a response. What would happen if the Yankees gave Cano the dollar amount he wants (say it's $200 million), but on the condition that the contract is spread over some crazy number of years, like 20/$200 million, so that the average value is relatively low?

Is such a contract "illegal" in MLB? Would the union or the league put the kibosh on it?

(9) ask Bobby Bo. I think the Mets will be paying him for another coupla decades.

[9] they'd have to bring my boy Lou Lamoriello in to hammer out the details on that one, but I assume you could do it but you would have to work out some kind of clause for interest tacked onto the principal.

I feel like the union would make more of an issue out of it than the league, but I don't think it would violate any sort of rule or anything.

[8] Yep, he's left Dusty McVittles and Chase 'Bones' Utley in the dust as best 2B in the game.
[9] That Bonilla contract never stops being 'Amazin'!

[9] My guess is that the CBA has some kind of rule prohibiting that, just because its such a simple way to circumvent the payroll tax system.

With the oldest roster in baseball and it's aging stars ready for the curtain to come down, I think trading him makes the most sense. Yes, probably the best second baseman in baseball but one player does not make a championship team. I recently re-read Buster Olney's book "The last night of the Yankee Dynasty" and the thing that strikes me most about the dynasty team was the number of strong willed players with an attitude of wining every single game. That seems to be lacking on this team. The whole team was built around that. There is no Tino Martinez, there is no Paul O'Neal, there is no Scott Brosius, no David Cone on this team. The guys like that, Petitte, Jeter, Mariano are ready for retirement after this year. Cano doesn't strike me as a leader at all,I don't sense he cares if they win or lose. Nor Tex,not Granderson-maybe CC, but he's a quiet dude. I don't know, rebuilding just makes sense to me if they can find younger players with fire in their hearts. The team that was built for 96-2001 was built by real baseball men and was put into motion a few years before, not with any Steinbrenner influence.
