So The Wife and I were in South Carolina visiting friends over the weekend and I had little access to the Internet. Thanks to Jon D for holding down the fort so beautifully here at the Banter.
We came home today–puddle-jumper from South Carolina to ATL, 757 from ATL back home. Everything went smoothly until we were in the air and the rain in New York shut down the local airports for a few hours. Meanwhile, after circling and circling our flight landed in Allentown, P.A. And, yes, that earned me the right to sing the song, cept I wasn’t in any mood for singing.
As we refueled there was also a mechanical problem to contend with. So we sat some more. Some folks left the plane and scrambled to find rental cars. But considering the Labor Day traffic that seemed foolish so we waited it out.
Meanwhile, after a rain delay of close to 2 hours, the Yankee game resumed while we were in Allentown so The Wife and I listened to the critical 4th inning where the White Sox played like our trip home–a mess. They kicked the ball around, some poor shnook named Dylan Axelrod could not throw strikes and when the inning was over the Yanks had scored 8 times.
Soon enough our plane was back in the air and when we were treated a glorious ride over Manhattan on our way to LaGuardia.
And wouldn’t you know it but there was zero traffic on the way home. We were exhausted but that made us smile. The game was long over by then–9-1 Yanks was the final–and a long day had a happy ending.
We came home, showered, and walked across the street for a slice.
Sounds like a drag, but at least the two of you were together.
And Yankee-wise, it all worked out!
Yeah, a long ass day. But we had some laughs and it all seems easier once you've arrived home.
Stuck in Allentown..yikes. I'd have stuck my head into some of the local kegs of ale. But I love the ending to that story, would kill for a slice right now!
Gotta find a place with some consistency in the quality of their pizza; good as opposed to anything less I mean. Mount Vernon is a crap shoot of inconsistency and bad pizza. Not too far away from the Bronx to dip in for a good slice, but don't always want to drive and too far for delivery in most cases. Oh well, I did have a couple slices myself today; could have been better, but I could have gone out and gotten it myself, so I blame myself.
Really like Amish country except for the fertilizer smell off the highway...
[4] 90min train ride for me to get to distant North Tokyo where Rocco's NY Pizza is. Only 'authentic' slice available here, I don't really count the Sbarro branch in central Tokyo. (If you've seen someone looking like me there late at night in a drunken pile of slices, it must be an impostor).
[4] In Mount Vernon, Johnny's Pizza is pretty good, but no slices. I've also heard that the Lincoln Lounge is good, but have not been there.
Don't complain, it ain't Long Island or New Jersey.
[5] Wow, you've got it bad. 90 minutes, and only one authentic NY pizza place. I'll shut up then.
[6] Lincoln Lounge, heh. I've never dared to go there before. Probably is good food, but wouldn't have known there was food there unless you mentioned it. Curious...
