Million Dollar Movie

palm beach

The Coen brothers’ favorite Preston Sturges movie. Everyone is good in it but I especially like Mary Astor, Rudy Vallee, and Sig Arno.

This one gets a little TOO goofy for me at the end, (The sets of identical twins?) but it makes sense they love it.

I remember The Wife having the same reaction. It is ludicrous, you are right.

It's still a lot of laughs, I just don't think it's Sturges' best work.

I think The Lady Eve might have been better.

4) The first half of The Lady Eve is just about flawless. But I don't think it holds up in the second part of the movie. It's funny, sometimes a movie can have a moment, a performance, a shot, a scene, that is so great that the rest can't live up to it. Always felt that was about Duvall in "Apocalypse Now." That the movie went downhill from his scene. Which isn't to say it was worthless just that his scene was so good.

[5] Agreed. I actually find all the Brando parts in A Now to be pretty unwatchable. The documentary about the making of that film is amazing, shows how chaotic is was and how Coppola had no idea how to finish it.
