Ah, man, but I just couldn’t resist.
Here’s the truth of it: I spent more time watching the festive and screwy Mets-Phillies last night because the atmosphere at Citi Field was bumpin’ like it was October. I saw enough of the Yankee game to know how uninspired it was in comparison. They got close, Sabathia wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t enough as they lost, 4-3.
I was watching the Mets game, too. I loved the ending when Wright got hurt and guys playing out of position.
This season is just as frustrating as we assumed it would be. The offense is just as offensive as advertised, but a couple of surprises. ARod shaking off the rust is encouraging, and Tex having a solid start (as he is notoriously a slow starter. Drew has already hit 2 homers and maybe he reverts to his 2013 form?
What is surprising is 11 errors for a team that was defensively supposed to be preventing runs. I hope this is just nervousness, and perhaps the knowledge that they aren't going to score a lot and undue pressure, but so far this team needs a defensive clinic or maybe a sports shrink?
McCann still is a bit lost and Beltran looks done. If CC and Tanaka are going to keep the opposition to 4 or 5 runs across 6 or 7 innings, we are doomed. A small sample size, but I don't see either adding much more oomph to their fastballs.
If we had half those errors, we might have 2 more wins.
This could be a very long and uninspired season. If Al Belth is watching the Mets over the Yankees, that should be cause for concern for every Yankee fan. :)
Last night's Yankee game was the definition of a "routine" game. Boring, disappointing, bad plays. But I would never even consider switching to a Mets game. Didn't even know it was on.
[2] I still think (hope?) it's a little early to call the offense an epic fail for the entire season, but Lord knows the results on both sides of the field have left me looking for something else to watch. Or read a book, yeah that's a good option...
