What? I wasn’t going to mention Bird in the title?
The kid hit a pair of 2-run home runs yesterday to boost the Yanks. Even better was Nathan Eovaldi. Guy’s stuff is so good–he threw 4 pitches yesterday at 101–it’s easy to be critical of him. He was perfect through 5, faltered in the 6th, and then showed some guts but coming back out and pitching a clean 7th. Shreve held the Twins down in the 8th and Betances put heads to bed to close it out.
It’s clear what the Yankees saw in Eovaldi and while he is not a finished product he’s improved, don’t you think?
Final Score: Yanks 4, Twins 3.

When is the last time the Yankees had a true fireballer in the rotation - who basically flew so far under the radar that you forget it's his turn? Crazy. 102. Wow. Can't teach an arm like that. Hope this year isn't a fluke - knocking on wood.
nice. i'm gonna be at Birdland next month. going to see my favorite drummer - Steve Smith - play in a Coltrane tribute band. can't wait!
oh, and i plan on going to The Stadium the night before. hope to see some Banterers there!
[1] I like Eovaldi. He needs to continue to get his K's per 9 up. He's at 6.6 this year which is better than last year (slightly), but still appears to be slightly below average (If 7.1 is still regarded as average). If he could get to 7.5 to 8 that would be great.
I don't know if his inability to get strikeouts is related to location or that he doesn't change speeds. Kyle Farnsworth could throw pretty hard too and he got knocked around, and his K's per 9, 8.8 for his career, were much higher than Eovaldi's.
But I agree that the Yanks saw something in this kid and I'm glad they moved Prado to get him.
[2] I am thinking about it.
[2][4] I mean I'm thinking about going to see the Yanks in Hotlanta next weekend.
[5] i have tickets for the Friday night game. going with my wife's family. i was hoping to go just with my wife on Saturday, but it's looking like we just have too much going on.
my post in [2] is for a game in the Bronx. i'll be back home toward the end of Sept. and plan on catching a weeknight game up there.
let me know if you'll be in town next weekend!
[6] I want to go. Whether I can convince my sons to go may be another issue.
