Too Short

threelights

The Jays are the better team right now. Want to assign blame? Can’t be on the Yankee players or their manager. You could look to the front office but for now, that’s not going to make us feel much better. More righteous, maybe; better, probably not.

Ivan Nova was good last night but Marcus Stroman was even better. The Yankee bullpen, enervated, absorbed the big blow–a 3-run home run by our old pal, Russell Martin. Course he hit the home run off Andrew Bailey one pitch after Bailey thought he had Martin struck out. But Bailey didn’t get the call and then he missed his spot. Martin didn’t miss the pitch.

Final Scored: Jays 4, Yanks 0.

The home crowd was loud and they cheered and why shouldn’t they? Their team hasn’t made the playoffs since Christ was a Cowboy and the Yanks have been kicking the Blue Jays’ asses for years now.

That doesn’t mean we have to like it. A hard, unpleasant end to their season come October is chief on my wish list for these playoffs.

In the meantime, the Yanks limp home. But, they are still in the lead for the Wildcard game. The division looks out of reach but as we all know, it ain’t over ’til it’s over.

2006 the Mud Hens were looking for their second straight International League championship. Down 2-1 in a best of 5, they won game 4. At home for game 5, it was a sellout. Normally AAA championship games don't sell out, it's September, there's football, the best players have been called up, yada, yada, yada.

Top of the first, the Hens ran on to the field from the dugout. I knew then they had won the game. They just had That Vibe. Toronto has That Vibe.

I wholeheartedly agree that the Jays have That Vibe - can't us Yank fans turn it on? Don't we gotta believe in the wild card chance? Go Yanks Go! :-)

Love the Yankees in any scenario where they don't face Dallas Keuchel in the WC game. If they see Keuchel, damn, it's gonna take everything they got.

It's been a fun season mostly. The Yanks are obviously not the best club but the future is bright and who knows they may get lucky in the playoffs. Good young players coming along is for me the most interesting part. Maybe one of them will come up big in the playoffs. Of course, it would be good if the high priced guys like Ellsbury and Gardner would play up to their contracts. They have been very spotty down the stretch.

(0) We could blame Cash for not getting reinforcements at the deadline, but he might have had to give up Severino or Bird or one of the other up and comers on the farm.

(4) I agree that it is exciting to see the young guys up playing their hearts out.

Nova pitched a great game and that is a tough loss to take since he gave out a walk with 2 outs in the 7th.

Obviously I would love to see this team as world champs, but if we also look at the Yanks in 95, we see a young Jeter getting his feet wet and the bitter pill of losing that helped to drive him and the rest of the core of homegrown Yanks and grizzled vets for their dynasty in 96,98,99 and 2000.

Severino, Nova, Pineda and Tanaka are very young and would make a great core for the pitching staff if they can stay healthy. Betances and Miller anchor a strong bullpen and some of the arms that let us down last night might be better next year.

The real challenge will be moving some of the players who are longer in the tooth out to provide room for the youngins.

Beltran has been resurgent but he, ARod and Tex are standing in the way of our youth movement.

we need to fold in Bird and Judge. McCann will likely need to move from behind the plate in a few years too.

Maybe the AL can add 2 more DH spots.

Let's keep humming along and grab the division. Al and Yogi are right, "It aint over til it's over!"

5) I appreciate wanting to get younger overall but the Yankees always have a mix. Those late '90s teams had a spoil of great young talent but that is rare for any team. And those Yankee teams were also anchored by veterans. Beltran, Alex and Tex are their best hitters this year. Course you can't expect that again next season--hell, it's amazing it happened this year.

What the hell happened to Ellsbury? Do you think he's just not right after his injury?

[6] The Yanks are loaded with good young outfielders who can play centerfield. Gamel, Williams and Heathcott to name a few. Look for Cashman to try to unload Ellsbury or Gardiner even if they have to pay serious money to shed them. Young players are cheap and the Vets. are well over 30 and not getting better.

damn. the game i go to has a weird lineup.

no gritner, no mac, no bird, no didi.

i do get to see didi and big pine though...

I meant rob ref and big pine...

And I'm very glad to see A-Rod hit. He obviously wasn't in the starting lineup for the Braves game.

Really wish a Banterer or three was gonna be at The Stadium tonight...

(6) I dig where you are coming from Al, but those teams in 90's also weren't drug tested.

I think the Yanks should look at selling on Beltran, ARod and Tex while their stock is high, and if they could somehow find a buyer (Maybe keep 1 out of the 3?). Better to trade a player a year early than a year too late (They already look like they might be nearing their expiration dates). Beltran was horrible in the beginning of the year, Tex has always had injuries and was bitten by the bug in a comeback season (Albeit another fluke) and ARod might be running out of gas too.

ARod or Beltran could be the DH but Tex should make way for Bird.

I think we all realize the Yanks got lucky with the production of Beltran, ARod and Tex. We might have gotten just what we expected out of CC just in reverse order. I thought he would pitch some good games early and fade due to injury.

Ellsbury, Gardner and McCann will provide veteran leadership.

I think the Yanks need to make a spot for Judge and Bird.
