I am sorry, but Gleyber Torres does not excite me. I am sure I am missing something and he's supposed to be the next coming of A-Rod.
But we are talking about easily the most dominate closer (the fastest ever. Ever.) in baseball. I want Mickey Mantle or Ken Griffey. Not a big K rate, mild power SS. We don't need a shortstop.
I don't know anything about Gleyber Torres, but I do want to deal Chapman, and now. His value to the Yankees is very small. I mean, he's been fun to watch, but now I've had that experience.
You're trading two months of a relief pitcher. He's a very very good relief pitcher, but come on, that's probably worth one win.
I like Didi at SS, but hey, if something better comes your way . . . It's a business. On the other hand, what could you flip Torres for?
1) Chapman is not the most dominant closer in baseball. You ain't getting a Mantle or Griffey for a rented closer, no matter how hard he throws. That said, I want some of what you're smoking!

It may be odd to grab a young shortstop but how close is he to playing? I really like Didi so I hope this isn't part of a plan to replace him. I'm sure there is a plan here. I just want to like it.
Torres is 19, in High A. AA, next year, the AAA in 18. 22 y.o. rookie SS? I can live with it even if the Cubs lock up Chapman for 4 years. Would still have Miller and Betances.
[6] Chapman did enjoy his time here; more hope than usual that he could re-sign here, though obviously the Yanks' priorities are much higher than closer. But I still have to hold my breath on these type of deals; seems like there's a systematic disconnect between AA, Triple-A and the majors with the Yanks (i.e. Triple-A either being irrelevant or prospects becoming irrelevant there). I hope I'm wrong...
Adam Warren is bunny hoping back to the Bronx as part of the deal. And it seems there's no long term deal for Chapman, so Cash can sign him over winter.
Looks like it's a done deal.

Hm, Fangraphs' Dan Farnsworth rates Torres the Cubs' top prospect:
"Torres looks to me like an elite major league hitter who will have situational power, making pitchers pay for mistakes left up in the zone."
Well, anyway there's clearly some good upside here. And clashing with Didi doesn't worry me. We could trade one of them, or Torres could play third.

[9] If Didi continues the way he is, look for Torres to be at third. But it's at least a couple of years away unless he's hitting nearly .500 at each level (basing my guess on Yanks' recent history with prospects).
Well, since we can't comment on the new post, I'll say it here: good trade so far. Yanks haven't made trades like this in a while, and Cash finessed this properly; buy low and sell high.

This whole wild pitch thing is getting old.
RI, I was thinking about that and frankly, I don't think they often make trades like this at all, never mind ones that work out. Usually it's the other way around. Perhaps the closest to that scenario would be getting three players for starting pitcher Doc Medich; among them a neophyte second baseman who didn't turn out to be that bad. Hey, if Didi does at least that well, it would be one of Cadhman's best trades ever. The Yanks have given up more All Star prospects than they've gotten, but they have made a bunch of good trades. I can't think of a scenario in modern times where they traded a good major leaguer for a minors prospect who turned into even a decent major leaguer, much less an All Star.
