A friend of mine who roots for the Sox loves to hate Mark Teixeira. So, this friend was happy last night because the Sox clinched the AL East when he Orioles beat the Blue Jays. But he got a little irritated I’m sure when Teixeira hit a grand slam home run in the 9th inning to give the Yankees the win. I’m sure the annoyance was momentary and then he went to sleep happy.
But for Teixeria, who has only 3 games left in his career, I’m sure it felt good. And we’ll take it where we can get it, right?
What’s funny is that the Yankees celebrated like all teams celebrate a “walk-off” win—as if they’d won the pennant. There is no building up to the big celebration these days, is there? Ha. I’m an old man.

Great win. It was especially satisfying to basically deny the Shit Sox from celebrating on the field.
24 straight winning seasons and letting a veteran player go out with one last big hit are celebratory.
Boy that was a fun 9th inning.
I had a feeling after Sanchez walked that they'd waste the bases loaded, no outs situation. Great AB by McCann, Starlin looked rusty, Didi looked like he was trying to hit one to the Polo Grounds, and then big Teix- BOOM. G'night.
Reminds me of the old 90's slogan they had about "Play Today, Win Today, Dat'sit." Guys having fun.
Great moment for Tex. A bit surprised that he never became a big fan favorite. He was and is a pro, great glove, timely hitter at times. Not sure where he ranks with other Yankee 1st basemen - Gehrig, and Donny Baseball for sure outrank him, but maybe he's in with Tino, Joey Pep and Chris Chamblis for top 5. Don't know enough about Wally Pipp to say.
I have really gained a new level of admiration for Tex after the bat flip and "blown save"comment in Toronto, and now this. It seems like it would be easy for him to go quietly into the night, but the passion and the competitiveness really shows his love for the game and for his teammates.
Another 50 game suspension for Jesus Montero. This time for a banned stimulant. I kinda forgot he was part of the Biogenesis scandal. He's currently a triple-a 1st baseman for the blow jays.
