Hey, is it baseball season yet? I try to watch the NFL, really I do, but I find it so dull. Boring, which sounds funny, coming from a baseball fan, right, but there you have it.
In the meantime, check out this piece in the Guardian on the late John Berger who recently passed away:
“The way I observe comes naturally to me as a curious person – I’m like la vigie – the lookout guy on a boat who does small jobs, maybe such as shovelling stuff into a boiler, but I’m no navigator – absolutely the opposite. I wander around the boat, find odd places – the masts, the gunwale – and then simply look out at the ocean. Being aware of travelling has nothing to do with being a navigator.”

You are so right about football. I try to watch, but it's pretty awful. At least the MLB channel has good programming on the hot stove developments. Hoping they'll replay Ken Burns' Baseball again this winter. Happy New Year to the Banterers and to you Alex.
Bye Bye A-Rod, no comeback attempt. A shame, I was hoping he's sign with the Marlins and get his 4 taters to reach 700. Oh well, I guess $21 million to be an 'adviser' is a nice fall back.
I am actually relieved that Alex isn't going to press on. And from what I can see so far he has a lucrative career in the broadcast booth—if not as a color commentator, than an in-studio guy.
Football I can tolerate. What I can't stand is basketball, because there's too much scoring. It devalues each play.
And yeah, I'm glad Alex isn't going to try for four more dingers. He's wrung out everything from his body.
The talk between Arod and Pete during the series was outstanding. {4} can't stand pro ball because there's no defense until the playoffs. College ball used to be interesting until they best players went 1 and done.
[2][3] I think I agree with his plan, but stopping 4 taters shy of the nice even 700 is driving my mild OCD tendencies nuts.
To me, it would be like quitting a marathon with 2K to go (42.195 K). Those last 2.195 K are miserable and soul crushing but they are doable, even when you can't feel your feet and want to die.
[5] Ooh...respectfully but firmly disagree about the current NBA. The level of athleticism these guys have is remarkable night after night, on O AND D. And not like baseball players bring it 110% every night.. :)
[6] To me it's like not staying for another beer to hear the end of the record at the jazz bar. Can't quit in progress, right??
[7] Hey, it worked for Miles, no?
How long until pitchers and catchers?
Go,Steelers! Go Hockey! I watched my first full NBA game a few weeks ago because a friend was over. Warriors- someone else. Dudues are scary good and athletic. But scoring is too easy.
[8] not soon enough.
[9] I think its 29.
Congrats to Raines, Bagwell and Ivan Rodriguez for the HoF
