5. Just ran across this site: http://www.whatifsports.com/locker/default.asp
There is a pay section, but I tried the free version of their simmatchup, pitting '98 Yanks vs. '04 Angels. Yanks crushed them. It looks neat. And I have no financial interest in it, or know anybody associated with it. Just that it looks cool.
7. Wow, that's neat. I always thought that that would be a great addition, to, say, the Madden NFL games. Build your team out of any player who ever played the game. Or match the '60s Packers against the '70s Steelers, the '90s Cowboys against last year's Patriots.
8. Rbj,
I gotta admit - that is some cool stuff right there - VERY interesting - I'll have to check that out some more when I get home from the office - thanks for posting that.
Randy,
it's also interesting that a couple of righty hitters are having awesome years at the stadium versus away.
Jeter: .966 Home/.690 OPS away (He should start wearing I Love NY shirts all the time).
A-Rod: 1.116 Home/.936 Away (not a huge dropoff or anything)
20. Torre said Sheff is going to play everyday, even if it means DHing. I can't kill him for that, although if I was Sheff I would rest and try to heal.
21. Baseball Mogul is another sweet game that lets you simulate old teams. You can start building a franchise with, say, the '25 Yankees. It's very, very cool.
There tons of options. I um, gave myself more money when managing the Yankees. Hey, I'm just making it realistic.
22. Someone help me. My mom always says "put out one fire at a time," but I am clueless here. Do I pull for the Tribe to bury the Sox, or pull for the Sox to put us in the WC position? My gut says Sox?
I smell what the Sheff is cooking tonight and I like it. A win over the O's with some basil and a light cream sauce. He'll be fine, can't fix his thigh in a week anyway.
30. Come on, Yanks. You have to crush them. Stomp all over them, so they lose any idea they can actually win any of the remaining games. Do it now, and the other seven games will be a lot easier.
35. Can someone puleeze tell me why in the world does Directv block out the Yanks when they play the Birds ALL THE TIME when I'm in North Carolina. The MLB package is supposed to be ALL THE GAMES (besides local blackout). North Carolina isn't a local blackout. Jeesh. With 7 more games, I can't take it.
44. They love the Braves here, that's why one of the conditions to my wife was the MLB package. Its crunch time and I'm nowhere to be found. I feel faint.
108. I think Sheff might do better if he rested for awhile. He was running a little better over the weekend, but looks worse again...probably because he tried to run.
114. Good job tying the game there, but you know what? They should have had more. Giambi had a bad 2-0 pitch called a strike, but he didn't look good in that at bat. Matsui just missed his pitch--fouling a fastball back--before whiffing.
Wang has two more big innings to get us through and you got to figure the O will score some runs for him.
126. I don't know about you guys but I'm rooting for the Indians to sweep and the White Sox to be out of contention within the next week. Call me stupid, but I think it might happen that the playoff bound teams are Cleveland, Yanks, bosox and Angels.
127. I'd like to think that The Tribe can't keep this up not for another 10 or 12 games until you look at their schedule. All KC and Tampa and the White Sox.
Wonder what the Vegas odds where for Cleveland having the best record in the AL this year?
146. Back to the Yanks - Kay just said that either Chacon or Wang (nice play, Tiger!) has to go the bullpen. BS. Wright can go to the pen, as far as I'm concerned.
Rich, I agree - only way Moose should pitch is if Wright is ALSO ready to go. Have him shadow Moose, just to be safe.
172. During the pitching change... yeah, Storm that does look pretty solid. Whenever my Jints were out of it, I've always rooted for the Steelers. Partly out of my distaste for Dallas that goes waaaaaaay back...
176. Rich, I don't like pinch-running for Giambi now either. If it was the 9th with the score still tied, fine - play for 1 run and the win. But its too early to do that now . . .
178. Also...continuing on young pitchers who could contribute soon a la Hansen/Papelbon this year on the Sox...
Next year, Cox, White, DeSalvo (who will be next year's Wang - you heard it here first).
But that's next year...let's win the division first...starting with the win tonight (p.s. Go Giants).
184. Switching to football momentarily - anyone else see Jeff Hostetler sitting there taking calls alongside McNabb, Bruce Smith, and Elway? I always liked that guy. Handley shouldn't have made him the starter over Simms in '91, but I'll never forget . . . FUMBLIAH! Giants recover!
Very happy to see Wang still pitching. Now we need a run!
200. Ohhhh, that was just too sweet. Great pitching by Tiger and a smooth as silk play from Rob ROY (kudos to who came up with that earlier, it's great!)
202. Bklyn and Rich, before the fumble, I was trying to say that I'll never forget Hoss in SB XXV. He was huge in that game and deserved a chance to start full-time - just not for the Giants.
98 pitches for Tiger Wang - I think its time to take him out. Hopefully we'll score about 10 runs here, so neither Gordon (who's already been up) nor Mo has to come in.
210. Waaay Off Topic: When Hoss was being wooed by the Raiders after his Jint days, the town car Raider officials pick him up from the airport with blows a tire, Hoss hops out and changes it himself. One look at the guy and that's no surprise...
229. Good gosh, Robbie. Tino makes a great play and then you go and botch the second one for him. Not smart. Did you guys see the look Tino gave him? Thank goodness, Rivera got the out anyhow, though he did have to throw five more pitches.
244. phew. Well in TB Ortiz abd Manny should have one more at-bat. TB better score a bunch. Little dipshit plays in all of these games can make a big deal. Whoa, BUBBA! The Yankeeees winnn
268. Storm agree 100%. Sierra is not getting the job done at the plate and can't cover half the ground Bubba can, not to mention the basepath speed...
270. Lol, Saints the anti-Raiders. You see Turner call No plays for Moss the last 14 minutes last night, yikes, that may be the worst coached game all year, and its only week 2.

271. Why Norv Turner has a head coaching job in NFL is beyond me.
282. I think Haslett just blew it by not running with a first and goal. I don't think you can blame him for any poor play calling this year, though - just keeping that team on the field is a hell of an accomplishment.
Norv Turner should've stuck to being an O-coordinator. Just like Gregg Williams should stick to being a D-coordinator.
Hell of a catch by Toomer! Hard to believe a Yankee-Orioles game is over before the football game. =)
283. THEY COULD LOSE 2 TIME OUTS . . .THESE GUYS SAY THEY WORK 18 HOUR DAYS, 80% OF THE LEAGUE IS JUNK, WHAT DO THEY DO FOR 18 HOURS, ARE THEY REALLY JUST NOT THAT BRIGHT. I MEAN I KNOW TICE IS A HALF-WIT, BUT I AM STARTING TO THINK MOST OF THEM ARE. BELICHEK DOESN'T WIN BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST, HE JUST HAS MILD INTELLIGENCE, THAT'S ALL IT TAKES.
285. Nick sorry, you're right. I should have clarified... Gruden and Al bumped heads often (maybe 'cause Gruden knew what he was doing) and that situation does not last long in Oaktown... Al is like 108 years old but stills runs that organization like it was the '60s...
286. Bklyn, rumor up here in Beantown is that Foulke isn't feeling the love, might be left off the postseason roster. Apparently he (and his wife) are living in the city now, but have discovered that doesn't give them a lot of privacy. I think he can afford the inflated housing prices in the suburbs out here. =)
295. Cowher is a fantastic coach, Stormer, and the Rooneys are too smart to let him go.
The Pirates should be ashamed for the pathetic product they've put on the field for 12 years now. Pittsburgh will clearly support a competitive team - but when you sign guys like Derek Bell and Kevin Young . . . but I digress. They could be something going forward, though, with all that young pitching . . .
296. and Renteria was signed for what now? Oh...I believe it was his glove...wait no - Cabrera was a better fielder...must be his bat...706 OPS on the season...righttttt...
301. Also, that's the 6th pitcher so far today for the Red Sox - who knows, that could be important for the rest of that series.
P.S. I really believe that the Sox will lose the Kazmir game - he is just dealing right now and I think that he can shut down the Sox (along with any other team right now).
302. Not that I care much for sneaker companies who employ the loud-mouth obnoxious red-stater know-it-all CLiff Clavin Schilling - but I thought this was a nice t-shirt:
303. This should be a wild and wooly post-season, no matter who's still around for it. I have no clue who's worthy of the WS, beyond St. Louis (who could easily get upended by one of those NL WC teams).
308. Man.. the Sox caught a huge break. Run #9 scores from 2nd on a single... slides well by the plate before Manny's throw. But wait.... Tek blocked the plate and tags on the running 10 feet behind the plate for the 3rd out. TB 8-6 in the 9th.
I can't understand why you are physically allowed to block the plate. Very un-baseball like.
Shit...... Otiz hit another!!!!!!
8-7... Manny up. 2 out.
313. What a surprise, a 2-0 pitch that Ortiz homers on. But hoenstly, its better than walking him in that situation...I was away all nigh tand came back to see that Bubba won the game, alright!!
You're right about the Rooney's. They are what can be good in sports. The anti-Jerry Jones. I grew up in NY but my dad grew up in Penn., so I adopted his team in the 70's (big surprise), but wouldn't give up my Yankees, thank goodness. However I am glad I stuck with the Steelers, they are just a class outfit, how can anyone, well Cleveland, Dallas and Oakland, but how can anyone pull against them.
Bettis staying, his press conference with Ward, almost made me cry.
And I say again, I would rather have Ward any day of the week over T.O. any day. I think a wide reciever who catches every ball thrown his way, blocks well and plays special teams, just never gets credit in this league. T.O. is like the 5th or 6th, but certainly not the top guy. It's all flash flash.
331. Aaron Boone comes through in the clutch...wow...what a night.
Honestly, i have no idea who to root for in that series. I love the way the Indians are set up and they all seem to be good kids who play the game right...on the other hand, Chicago would be the (far) easier opponent. Decisions, decisions...
It is an awful lot to ask for the Sox to blow that lead. I will be happy facing either. To be honest, and I know you'll jump on me, but, if we have to lose in the playoffs, both those teams are class teams, better than losing to Boston. Ozzie, Wedge, good guys, good managers, good teams.
337. There is that. The Cowboys are using the shotgun a lot, to give him more time. After spending a season trying to protect the geriatric Vinnie Testaverde, they're used to it. ;-)
340. Shoot - would it not be amusing as hell if say the Sox were to get swept the Rays? I mean, with allll the media attention (& to an extent justified) on the Yanks ineptitude vs. the Rays, it would be a nice little reversal of fortune to see if the Rays could pull it off. I've already said that they take game 3 so in my mind, tomorrow is the key, up in the air, game.
On that note, night to everyone and God Bless Bubba.
347. Poor Gibbs. It's a different NFL than he remembers. Free agency and the cap means you can no longer just buy the players you want. Kind of Spurrier, who was used to the college system, where you can buy all the players your budget allows.
I wonder which starter Torre's going to send to the bullpen. I'm glad I don't have to make the decision. On YES, they were joking about it being Randy Johnson. I think I'd be tempted, if only to get Posada in the game.
"Poor Gibbs. It's a different NFL than he remembers. Free agency and the cap means you can no longer just buy the players you want. Kind of Spurrier, who was used to the college system, where you can buy all the players your budget allows."
356. Not Chacon, no no no, that would be a big mistake. I almost said Wright, I think he makes the most sense, but salary, oh salary.
No way in hell do you send Chacon. His era is below 3 away from Coors and with the Yanks, best on the entire staff! Look it up.
I love Small, but he's gotten knocked around a bit his past two starts.
Same reason you saw Brown in game 7 last year, and not Duque. They will say his arm, but that's the excuse. Why was he on the ALCS roster then, if his arm was dead? Duque or Brown, come on, no brainer, how many 5's and 7's did he close out for us?
Brain says Wright. Money says Small. It will be Small. If Wright goes, the injury makes for a convenient excuse, but I'd be surprised if they send Wright out there, although I think it's a perfect fit, he has the attitude for the pen, no doubt. I think the injury gives Joe a little leeway to do it, we'll see. It is the right move, but I doubt it will happen.
I think Woody "how the hell did I get this job" Paige said this morning that it would be the biggest since like 1884. 15 games since July 1, now that's news.
359. Maybe they could job-share. Wang was great tonight, but not quite as good on the Tampa turf. It occurs to me that he might not be the best choice for indoor games. All those grounders bounce a lot harder on the turf.
This will never fly, but I like a 4 man. Considering the junk in the pen, I think it's wise.
Randy
Moose
Chacon
Small
Wang, Leiter, and Wright in the Pen to get to GorMo. Wang can go long if necessary. Leiter for lefties, and Wright when Gordon and Mo need a rest, he can go 6-9.
Use Mendoza and Sturtz only in emergency, never use Embree or Proctor.
363. Following Stormer's thinking, in a way it also makes sense to use Wang a la Mendoza in the past... use him as a long man, or use him to get a grounder if a DP is needed.
367. So, which free agents do you think the Yanks will blow money on next year? Burnett, another injury prone starting pitcher is out there for the taking. I ass-u-me Matsui resigns with da yankees next year. vr, Xei
He's been hampered by injuries, both real and freak. His season has been abbreviated and he's never had the chance to get into the flow of things. As a result, you never see him go deep into a game.
The other guys can eat innings and keep teams off balance. I say, let the guys who can pitch deep into ballgames effectively do so, and let Wright work 2 or 3 innings at top velocity.
369. Rumor has it Torii Hunter will be traded from the Twins. Is this the Yankees solution for CF next year? Who would they have to give up? Cano? Bean? Wang? You have to imagine Twins will want young, cheap talent.
370. I don't think the Unit could handle pitching every four days. He's no spring chicken. And he seems to be very set in his routine. Besides, that would mean one out of four games with Posada on the bench. Posada's been pretty good at the plate lately, and he's better than Flaherty on defense, too.
Wright might be the best choice to send to the pen, if only because he's so fragile. But Torre put Small there the last time, because Small, supposedly, Small has experience and pitches well out of the pen. Wright, like Wang, often seems shaky for the first inning, which could be disastrous in the bullpen.
1. How many games are going 4+ hours? I vote 2.
2. Wang and Small both work quickly, so I think two is a good guess, rbj.
FWIW, the Yanks are 47-27 at home this year, 38-36 on the road. Orioles are 35-39 both on the road and at home. I like those odds.
AND - our boy "Rob ROY" Cano shared AL Player of the Week honors with Ortiz. Now if he can keep up the torrid hitting at home . . .
3. Robby's numbers are a lot better away than at home.
HOME: .248/.620 AWAY: .332/.897
Odd for a lefty.
4. The gap has actually widened for Cano's splits after the ASB.
AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS
Home: .237/.267/.289/.556
Away: .340/.355/.551/.906

5. Just ran across this site:
http://www.whatifsports.com/locker/default.asp
There is a pay section, but I tried the free version of their simmatchup, pitting '98 Yanks vs. '04 Angels. Yanks crushed them. It looks neat. And I have no financial interest in it, or know anybody associated with it. Just that it looks cool.
6. Sheff should have sat out until his leg healed.
btw, rbj, Do you mean the '02 Angels?
7. Wow, that's neat. I always thought that that would be a great addition, to, say, the Madden NFL games. Build your team out of any player who ever played the game. Or match the '60s Packers against the '70s Steelers, the '90s Cowboys against last year's Patriots.

A-Rod: 1.116 Home/.936 Away (not a huge dropoff or anything)
Lefty Home cooking
Matsui: .985 Home/.732 Away
9. RANDYM,
Considering out last 7 are on the road, I'll take Cano's numbers, and love it!
10. Torre announce the lineup?
11. We need the 1-5 boys to come through this week. The bottom carried us on the road, lets go Jete, Arod, Sheff, Giambino, and Mats!
12. Although it's a very small sample size, I think Cano has hit well at home in Sept.
13. Jeter
A-Rod
Giambi
Sheff
Matsui
Po
Bernie
Cano
Bubba
14. No '04 Angels. got distracted and wasn't thinking of the year.
Re: lineup
D. Jeter ss
A. Rodriguez 3b
J. Giambi 1b
G. Sheffield dh
H. Matsui lf
J. Posada c
B. Williams cf
R. Cano 2b
B. Crosby rf
If Sheff can't follow through on his swing, he should rest it and have Ruben dh, or Bernie DH Bubba in CF, Vento in RF. Or something.
15. Stormer Sports lineup tonight, thanks Joe!
16. Tino's healthy, why not Tino DH? Constantino knows baseball!
17. I'd hold Tino for LIDR, but it is a good option.
18. rbj,
Half a Sheff is still a full kitchen, I'll take it.
19. rbj,
But I like Tino . . . stomping feet!

23. Rich,
I smell what the Sheff is cooking tonight and I like it. A win over the O's with some basil and a light cream sauce. He'll be fine, can't fix his thigh in a week anyway.
24. On a cautionary note, Stormer, he has said that he has trouble driving the ball because he can't push off his leg.
25. Forget the WC. Won't need it. :)
26. K
27. Jeez, Wang dominates the first two hitters, Mora sneaks a grounder past Cano's outstretched glove, Tejada and Gibson single and it's 1-0.
28. We need to gain on Cleveland. Wang in trouble already but looked pretty good before they started hitting him
29. Bubba already saved a run.
30. Come on, Yanks. You have to crush them. Stomp all over them, so they lose any idea they can actually win any of the remaining games. Do it now, and the other seven games will be a lot easier.
31. I know I should know this, but what happened to Sammy? He and Raffy have a time share?
32. The're getting Wang to throw a lot of pitches
33. Gets out of it.
Runs...
34. Eee Gats Wang, I smell middle relief issues already. Lets go offense!
36. time to get kick the shit out of Petard now
37. that's kick the shit out of betard. They can take care of Petard whoever that is later.
38. Jeter swinging at garbage for K
39. Bedard's gonna get moidelized.
And BxSparksNYC, I'm surprised you get anything but Braves games.
40. Wang shows why an extreme groundball pitcher doesn't need to strike batters out.
41. Yikes, every time Giambi stretches, it appears that his prone position could become permanent.
42. Wang's settling in. He's another one who often has a rough first inning.
But jeez, I hate to see Giambi stretched that way if his back is bothering him.
43. Cano, Can Do!
Here comes the bottom of the top of the order. Get to Jorge and Robbie so we can get some runs.
44. They love the Braves here, that's why one of the conditions to my wife was the MLB package. Its crunch time and I'm nowhere to be found. I feel faint.
45. Nice6 pitch inning for Wang. Makes up for the 1st.
46. Giambi has to gut it out! Time of year to play hurt, no excuses. We wonder why they call baseball players wimps.
47. Godzilla! Lets go!
48. Good gravy. That guy is humongous.
49. And Tampa Bay is losing to Boston...
50. Good work, Jorgie. Made him throw a lot of pitches.
51. Jorge walks, perfect. They keep that up they'll see hittable pitches
52. What about Bellhorn in against a lefty?
53. I would like to see Cano's L/R splits for home and away.
54. Cano's gotten a lot more patient, at least.
55. Uh oh...
56. Yay, Bubba!
Now please, please, PLEASE don't do anything dopey on the basepaths.
And yay, Derek!
C'mon, Yanks. Keep it going. Baltimore obviously doesn't want to screw up their golf schedule by straining themselves.
57. c'mon Sheff, how bout a salami
58. Anything but a DP, please!
59. Thanks Sheff.
60. That swing was affected by his leg. He shouldn't play.
61. Ok, how about Bellhorn for Sheffield against a lefty?
62. I don't think he should be playing, either. He can't run, even when he does hit the ball.
63. Rich. Joe says he aint coming out, ever, that's that!
Scalpal, Nurse! Scalpal! I have to perform another emergency LOB-octomoy. Only my 135th this year!
64. Start scoring like a rock stars.
65. Then Sheff needs to be unselfish and tell Joe to sit him, Stormer.
66. I didn't catch any of the weekend games, but Sheff looks exactly the same as he did on Thursday, that is, slow and hurting.
Are they in such a bad shape that they have to put him on the line-up? The Yanks don't need this macho stuff, they need effective players.
67. Here come the Columbus Clippers.
68. Rich, I wish.
69. Kay's right. It sounds like a Dodger game there. Where are the fans?
70. Tampa came back. It's 3-2 Tampa. They've got nine hits off Wells.
71. Are they still in the pennant race? or are they just playing a meaningless game on September?
Man, talk about laziness
72. The offense is offensive. Let's go.
73. They're working the counts, at least. Well, except maybe Bernie.
74. yawn
75. This pitcher hasn't won since August 4. Maybe if we face Johan Santana every game through the end, we'll walk away with the east.
76. Tampa up 4-2 after 3, knocked Wells out
77. Another golden opportunity to cash in.
78. Stop squeezing him, ump.
79. Nice.
80. I hate to rag on Sheff, but what is his AVG. since the injury, anyone know?
81. Rich.
Funny though huh. They don't even care, and we are still losing.
82. All right, Robby!!!
83. Our bottom of the order is getting all the hits...
84. Speed baby.
85. At least over the last 7 days, Sheff's AVG is good, but his SLG sucks:
.391 .500 .391
86. Just hit the ball Derek!!
87. Juiced.
88. Bases loaded, no outs, the heart of the lineup up. Let's go A-Clutch.
89. All right, guys. If you can't score now, I give up...
90. That's it. Follow the leader Alex, hit the ball!! (out of there if possible)
91. Roving strike zone.
92. They'll score.
93. That's one.
94. Thank you, A-Rod!
95. MVP
96. Very good, follow the leader. Hit the ball Jason!!!
97. The Sox tie it up..
98. Damn. Red Sox have tied the game on an Alex Cora triple.
99. c'mon, shell this dude!
100. Which sox?
101. The wrong one.. :-)
102. The ump's strike zone is a joke.
103. Tied.
104. They sure don't come easy.
105. I think Sheff's bat is getting worse.
106. C'mon MVPtsui, just hit the ball out of the park!!
107. Let's take the lead guys!! and stop the nonsense
108. I think Sheff might do better if he rested for awhile. He was running a little better over the weekend, but looks worse again...probably because he tried to run.
109. Shit
110. Dammit.
111. Damn it..
112. Two Strikeouts..thats horrid.
113. Tampa's hitting well tonight. Started off the 4th with a double and single. Runners on the corners, no outs.
115. I've been flipping back and forth between this and the Jints, but boy, there seems to very little intensity from the Yanks tonight...
We should be up by 4 or 5...
116. Tampa's up 5-4 on the Bosox.
117. Alex,
Know where I could get a total on LOB this year?
118. Tribe up 3-0.
119. Stormer you want to be depressed? or are you really into stats.
120. Nice work, Tiger!
121. tocho,
naaa, I want to see if we can break the record:)
Top of the order coming up!
122. Man. If Wang hadn't gotten injured...
123. Chisox really suck now. Looks like no help against Cleveland
124. None of those pitches were even close. It was almost like they intentionally walked Posada.
I hope you were paying attention, Bernie. Don't be swinging like crazy here.
125. randym,
Well he is our best hitter, this week.
128. What, not Cano?
Red Sox are on their 3rd pitcher. It's the 5th inning.
129. Why can't Sierra play RF for them?
130. Cano hit a laser. ROY.
131. BklynBomber, I too am switching back and forth between Big Blue and the Yanks - Tivo is a wonderful thing!
C'mon, Rob ROY! D'oh.
BTW, BxSparksNYC, I have DirecTV and we (30 miles SW of Boston) are getting the Yankee game tonight. I'm as confused as you are.
132. tocho, I think not only will Cleveland overtake the White Sox, the White Sox will end up the wild card. So we have to win the division.
133. Shaun Eli looks pretty decent so far, huh? I just hope we won't have to really focus on the Giants until about...say, November ;-)
134. No way I start Moose on Thurs.
135. GG
136. Yeah, but the Giants pissed away 3 pts. right before the half.
137. I don't think I'd even try to bunt against Wang.
138. Tiger GG Wang! He is smooth off the mound...
139. Why is it Bill Parcells never thinks he needs a kicker. It won him one Super Bowl and cost him another, you'd think he'd drop the testosterone.
140. The kid is awesome.
141. 8 assists for Wang! Wow!
142. Eight assists from C.W. Wang. He's really pitching a fine game, huh?
143. Wang Chung!
Now get some runs dammit. What more do you want out of this guy.
Ah, the curse song playeth!
144. Bklyn, I've been very impressed with Manning (and Plaxico) tonight. I'd be very happy to not have to focus on the Jints until November. =)
BTW, for anyone interested, Giants 21-10 at the half.
145. That Wang Chung was mildly offensive huh?
147. He's doing his part. Now if the offense can just do theirs...
148. Shaun,
Amazing what an O'Line will do for you huh?
149. Wang is the ace of the future. Ok, maybe not, but he's such a stud.
150. ba-boom clang, Stormer. =)
151. An OL and STs at least until the last sequence.
152. The future staff:
Hughes
Wang
Clippard
Chacon
insert FA
153. As a Steeler fan, I must admit I am hoping for a non-career ending injury for Plaxico.
154. Steelers would be unbeatable with Burress on the team still, grr.
155. Rich,
screw the FA
Insert Matt DeSalvo
156. Now, now, Storm...
157. Bklyn,
But I miss him. However we wont need him to guve NE their first back to back losses in 3 years!
158. The OL is nice, but I'll settle for a pass rush, which the G-men seem to have this year. =)
Rich, what about Henn? DeSalvo? Juillien? (I'm sure I've misspelled his name.) Could you imagine a rotation 4/5ths homegrown?!
159. Rich, as long the FA isn't a 40 year old+ NL'r with a three years remaining on FAT contract, I'd be all ears... ;-)
160. BTW, Cantu homers with Crawford on, 7-4 Tampa Bay.
GOOOOOOOOOOOO Devil Rays!! =)
161. TB up 7-4. I've got an oddly optimistic feeling...
162. Tampa's up 7-4. Boston's on their 4th pitcher. I guess Hendrickson is the real deal.
163. Shaun, BklynBomber,
Yup, we need depth. Young depth. This season has demonstrated that you can't have too many starting pitchers.
164. Storm you've got some serious depth at RB over there, tho...
Tampa up 7-4?
165. Bklyn,
We are the new Broncos backfield. And I love it!
Run Willie Run!
166. Do we have speed on the bags or what?
167. All right, Sheff!
168. I don't like taking Giambi out in the 7th inning of a tie game.
169. Gibbs is seriously giving this coaching thing a second thought . . .
170. JVarghese81,
You're right. I forgot about out DeSalvo.
171. Giambi really hasn't looked good tonight. I think his back's still bothering him.
172. During the pitching change... yeah, Storm that does look pretty solid. Whenever my Jints were out of it, I've always rooted for the Steelers. Partly out of my distaste for Dallas that goes waaaaaaay back...
Rich would you bring Small back next year?
173. Like I said, Half a Sheff is still a full kitchen.
174. BklynBomber,
I would, but barring an unconscious playoff run, it would merely be for depth. I wouldn't guarantee him a spot in the rotation.
175. Do it, Mat.
176. Rich, I don't like pinch-running for Giambi now either. If it was the 9th with the score still tied, fine - play for 1 run and the win. But its too early to do that now . . .
C'mon, Godzilla . . .
177. I don't like losing Jason right now, either. We'd better score here. Then we're looking at 6 outs to a W.
Go Giants).
179. Fcuk!
180. Oooooh. Matsui. The team is coming up short again when it counts offensively. I mean, they don't want to see any part of BJ Ryan, man....shoot.
181. 2 in 10 chance of scoring! I do not yank Giambino!
However, I do like our back-up!
182. Rich, On Small for '06, agreed. He could spot start, long relief, etc. Wouldn't cost much, either.
183. Nine assists for Wang, fourth in a row...
185. 2 in 10 chance of scoring! I do not yank Giambino!
However, I do like our back-up!
Is that Walter Mattheau in the dugout?
186. Tejada scares me in this inning...
187. DO NOT let Tejada beat you.
188. Let's not get sloppy here. NO RUNS, D!!!!
189. He scares all of us. C'mon DP.
We need this game!!!!
190. I'd like to see Miggy hit into a double play, Alex . . .
191. Shaun Hoss was the Man in '91!
192. At least we shouldn't lose any ground on Boston.
193. Hoss's best play was not getting stripped by Bruce Smith in the end zone in the Super Bowl.
194. yeeeeeeeeesssssssssss..
195. Thank you, Miggy! And Rob ROY!
196. Nice!
Now come on, Yanks. Let's see some scoring.
197. Thought Cano was going to try and jump in the air once he got to second...easy fella, and easy DP. Beautiful. Now for a run...
198. Cano, Can Do!
199. If only Wang hadn't got injure.. sigh..
200. Ohhhh, that was just too sweet. Great pitching by Tiger and a smooth as silk play from Rob ROY (kudos to who came up with that earlier, it's great!)
Now let's score!!!!
201. After the great Defensive play comes the great Offensive play. We will win tonight with a HR by Cano!
203. Get Wang some runs!
204. only one fly ball/pop up in 8 innings, everything else on the ground!
205. It would be nice if they gave Wang a chance to win let alone winning the game
206. now come on, let's get one....
207. Bklyn, thanks, "Rob ROY" was my idea - its the Scot in me. =) My mom, who was born in Scotland, thought it was a fantastic nickname.
208. Ack - now 7-6 TB, Manny on second only one out . . .
209. It's 7-6 now for Tampa, thanks to an Ortiz double. :-P
210. Waaay Off Topic: When Hoss was being wooed by the Raiders after his Jint days, the town car Raider officials pick him up from the airport with blows a tire, Hoss hops out and changes it himself. One look at the guy and that's no surprise...
... C'mon Robbie!!!
211. Sox coming back and Chisox coming back
212. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not counting on the bosux losing tonight. They always comeback to win v. the DRays.
213. Shaun Trademark it ASAP, lad! ;-) That's a winner!
214. Correction - Ortiz on second. Manny just struck out, two gone.
215. This is not looking good... the Oriols middle relief just shut the Yanks down... that's never a good omen.
216. Now he brings Mo in. I won't start, promise.
217. Man,
Our boys must think it is August and there is still plenty of time left. Shef needs to sit a while... he's too hurt. Red Sox coming back...
218. Shaun,
You see that? If Aaron Brooks had three living brain cells, he would be one hell of a quarterback, alas, he does not.
219. I'm staying positive.
220. Mo better be ready for 5 tonight the way our offense is performing.
221. What do we have in the 9th? Bubba, Jetes and A-Rod... I like that. Speed and pop. C'mon, Mo. Be yourself.
222. Tino!
223. The GloveTino!
224. Nice work, Tino!
225. LIDR!!!
226. Stormer, Brooks has too many flashes of dumbness - they outweigh his flashes of brilliance!
NICE PLAY, Tino!
227. Brooks is like Favre with a tad less talent, he's great, holy cow, he's the best, see that! Wow! Holy jesus! Interception, game over!
228. Win it NOW!
229. Good gosh, Robbie. Tino makes a great play and then you go and botch the second one for him. Not smart. Did you guys see the look Tino gave him? Thank goodness, Rivera got the out anyhow, though he did have to throw five more pitches.
230. Rich,
Jeter certainly owes us one.
231. Stormski, keep it to baseball, babe. This game is tense enough...
232. Nice job by Mo, now we just need one stinkin' run . . .
Meanwhile, Archie Manning is on the phone with the ESPN booth while Eli is messing up - oh well, he is just a kid, right? As long as he wins . . .
233. Get on base, Bubba...
234. White Sox tied, DRays hanging by a thread. What's the betting Ortiz hits another HR...
235. BUBBA!!!!!!
236. Holy FUCK!
237. BUUUUBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBAAAAA!!!!
238. Did we say Bubba should play more? :)
239. BUBBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
240. BUBBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That oughta get you some playing time, kid!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Alex, now can we talk some football? =)
241. whooooooo hooooooooo... .
242. Bubba!
Bubba!
243. Who knew? ;-)
244. phew. Well in TB Ortiz abd Manny should have one more at-bat. TB better score a bunch. Little dipshit plays in all of these games can make a big deal. Whoa, BUBBA! The Yankeeees winnn
245. HOLY CRAP!!!!
If anyone was expecting that...you are Ms. Cleo.
WoW. Come onnnnnnnn Tampa!
246. Rich,
Joe just announced tomorrow's lineup, Ruben Sierra will be in right! LOL.
247. sometimes this game just makes no sense.
But in a good way
248. He was so excited, I think he leaped right over home plate! Look at the smile on his face. Very nice, Bubba, very nice!
249. Never thought I'd say this, but fire Joe now and let Bronx Banter take it from here... ;-)
250. Haha, did anyone see Bubba admire his shot? Good for him.
251. Jvarghese81,
I believe Rich and I were!
252. Storm you are one funny MF, I'll tell ya ;-)
Rueben in right tomorrow... ROFLMAO!
253. First and third, one out, top of the order up for TB - let's go Devil Rays!
Whatta pose by the hero. =)
254. Now, come on, Rays! Runners on the corners, one out.
255. Bubba makes my night worthwhile! Good for you man, good for you!
256. that was great!
257. let's go Devil Rays!
258. Man seeing stuff like that reminds why I like baseball over all other sports, its just different.
259. Can't take Chacon or Wright out of the rotation.
260. Sigh, Lugo grounded into a double play. Hopefully they'll hold 'em . . .
What a night it would be, to have a Yankee win, a Red Sox loss, and the Giants win too. Here's hoping!
261. Hubba fuggin Bubba!
262. I meant WANG! Sheesh, what an idiot I am.
263. Bklyn,
I mean seriously, if that can't earn him a start, I don't know what will.
264. The Indians blew a 4-0 lead. It's tied in the 7th
265. Top 8 in Tampa... 1 out, no one on... Cora up
266. I think we should put the Unit in the bullpen when/if Mussina comes back.;)
267. TIME FOR BAEZ! Give them a taste of our medicine.
268. Storm agree 100%. Sierra is not getting the job done at the plate and can't cover half the ground Bubba can, not to mention the basepath speed...
Shit, infield hit for Cora..
269. They just showed all Wang's assists. Made me tired just watching him. I think he got more action any of the fielders did.
270. Lol, Saints the anti-Raiders. You see Turner call No plays for Moss the last 14 minutes last night, yikes, that may be the worst coached game all year, and its only week 2.
271. Why Norv Turner has a head coaching job in NFL is beyond me.
272. CP-3 O-lerud up, stike 'em out throw 'em out DP!
bottom 8...
273. Meanwhile, the Giants looked like they were giving up a TD, but thanks to Aaron Brooks, the FG unit is coming up - and Carney shanked it!
Down in Tampa, Olerud strikes out . . . and Cora thrown out trying to steal second! TB only needs three more outs!
274. Kudos to Torre for not playing Sierra.
275. Nick, Mount Davis hasn't hired a coach since Madden or Flores...
276. First of all, Alex, great Producers reference, it's one I say aloud all the time while walking around NYC. "I'm not a madam, I'm a concierge!"
Just before that walk-off blast, I said aloud "The sluggers havent touched this guy yet, maybe Bubba will be a hero." And then...bang! zoom! Go Tampa!
277. Rich,
I want to relish this win, but there is a part of me that still believes I'll see Ruben out in right tomorrow and that frightens me, no comprende.
278. Amaini . . . ITS NOT A TUMOR!
279. Bklyn, what about Gruden? Some people think he's a good one.
280. When the last time Foulke pitched? Sawks pen is busy, not Foulke, though...
281. Stormer, you will not see Ruben out there tomorrow. That's my fearless Patrick Ewing prediction.
284. Rays stolen base---0 out baby! The Rays aren't the Yanks, they can get that run home.
287. Crawford on third, one out, Alex's boy Gomes up . . .
288. Crawford singles to lead off. Now on 3rd with 1 out in Bottom of the 8th in tB. How bout an insurance run?
289. 8-6 Demon Rays!!! Keep those runs comin'...
290. 2 Time outs, wow, oh my. I love you Bill Cowher, I want to have your children, please don't ever leave us.
291. and Renteria boots it! Crawford scores, Gomes safe at first - 8-6 TB!
292. Amazing how easy it is for other teams to get runners home from second, isn't it?
293. Crawford scores, Gomes to second on an error. 8-6 TB
294. White Sox up by 1!
297. Thanks, Shaun Left off the PS roster??? Didn't think things went that much south... wow!
298. Hey, White Sox took the lead on a home run - love that 'Smartball' there, Ozzie. 'Cause of course you guys never hit homers.
299. Hold on Chicago, hold on.
300. Well, Chisox lead 5-4 in 8th. This has a shot of being a very good night. I'm still not too confident of the Boston game
301. Also, that's the 6th pitcher so far today for the Red Sox - who knows, that could be important for the rest of that series.
P.S. I really believe that the Sox will lose the Kazmir game - he is just dealing right now and I think that he can shut down the Sox (along with any other team right now).
302. Not that I care much for sneaker companies who employ the loud-mouth obnoxious red-stater know-it-all CLiff Clavin Schilling - but I thought this was a nice t-shirt:
http://tinyurl.com/8ltyr
Huff singles to right, Gomes out at home. Two runs is not bad - hope Baez can hold it. I've got to get some sleep.
303. This should be a wild and wooly post-season, no matter who's still around for it. I have no clue who's worthy of the WS, beyond St. Louis (who could easily get upended by one of those NL WC teams).
C'mon Tampa...3 outs before you allow 2 runs.
304. 1 out in Tampa, top 9...
305. Baez oes us God dammit!
306. Renteria grounds to 3rd, 2 down. Papi up...
307. Thankfully, no one is on, so if Ortiz makes Denys look like Joan Baez, we still have a shot here.
308. Man.. the Sox caught a huge break.
8-7... Manny up. 2 out.
309. Papi homers... thank goodness bags empty... 8-7
A-Rod = MVP
310. Sheesh, maybe I should have saved my Joan Baez line.
311. Jesus - are you serious - just ground out now Manny. Do it and I will go buy your weed for you...
312. my god, Papi homers again!
313. What a surprise, a 2-0 pitch that Ortiz homers on. But hoenstly, its better than walking him in that situation...I was away all nigh tand came back to see that Bubba won the game, alright!!
314. Thank god Renteria made that error.
Fuck you, Ortiz.
HELL YES!!!! MANNY K'S TO END IT!!!!
315. Whaddya expect? Manny ain't no Bubba!
Rays win! Thhhhhhaaaaa Raaaaaaaaaaays win!
316. RED SOX LOSE!
317. Yes, game over, 1/2 game baby!!!
318. Tampa held on!
319. Finally, TB does us a solid!!
320. Yes. Now only the inconsequential 1/2 game stands between us and the division lead. Here come the Yankees.
321. Good, what a great night for sports - now on to the Cleveland game...why oh why did I schedule that meeting for 8 in the morning?
322. Shaun,
You're right about the Rooney's.
323. Red Sox, objects in mirror are closer than they appear.
Redrum Redrum.
Here's DADDY!
324. Come on Jenks!
Those tickets you got me for last weeks game were pretty bad here in Chicago, but I'm pulling for you.
That boy is huge, he is staying in the same rental building I am for a few months.
Blew it! Dammit!
325. aaron bleepin boone
326. Man, Pittsburgh whaled all over the Rocket.
Great night for Yanks. (I'll try not to think about how much greater it would be if they'd won yesterday, too.)
And holy cow, can you believe that Cowboys TD? A 70-yard flea-flicker. Why didn't Bledsoe play like that for the Bills?
327. Aaron bleepin Boone! Gotta love that though.
328. Indians score two lead 6-5
329. I hope Cleveland or Chicago wins 5 out of 6 against the other. That improves the Yankees chances.
330. Aaron bleepin Boone! Gotta love that though.
332. Randy,
it might have had to do with him being on his keester the entire game - how many times did he get sacked last year!?
333. atc.
You beat me to it.
334. last thing I'm worried about is Chisox. We badly need Cleveland to have at least a few losses
335. JVar,
It is an awful lot to ask for the Sox to blow that lead. I will be happy facing either. To be honest, and I know you'll jump on me, but, if we have to lose in the playoffs, both those teams are class teams, better than losing to Boston. Ozzie, Wedge, good guys, good managers, good teams.
336. marc no worries... Tribe has 4 left with Tampa. They may get swept... ;-)
337. There is that. The Cowboys are using the shotgun a lot, to give him more time. After spending a season trying to protect the geriatric Vinnie Testaverde, they're used to it. ;-)
338. Gibbs asked the official if he could substitute Tony Stewart, the official saud no. "But he's my driver, I want my mommy, why did I come back."
339. How 'bout dem 2-0 New York Football Giants?
341. Dye up with 0 out, tieing run on 2nd...
342. Bubba and Cano. I smell 1996!
343. Time for one of those Sox comebacks from earlier in the year!
344. make that tying, which Dye failed to bring home, foul pop-up off of first...
2 down now... ground out to 3rd...
345. Wickman is due, due I tell ya!
346. Pale Hose go meekly in the 8th...
348. It feels very very odd to be pulling for the Cowboys, I need help.
349. well, there's still the 9th. Chisox having implosion of biblical proportions.
350. Small goes to the Pen. I think Joe has no choice.
351. randym,
shhhhhhhh, that's the Yankees.
"Poor Gibbs. It's a different NFL than he remembers. Free agency and the cap means you can no longer just buy the players you want. Kind of Spurrier, who was used to the college system, where you can buy all the players your budget allows."
352. Samll??? The undefeated Small?
I think I'd send Wright or Chacon to the pen before Small.
353. I almost feel like the White Sox losing 10 of 15 is more likely than Cleveland losing 4 of 15.
354. Cleveland seems unbeatable. Another run in.
355. Man, everything... I mean everything is going right for The Tribe right now... 7-5 Cleveland.
357. Biblical, No Way, It's Apocolyptic!
I think Woody "how the hell did I get this job" Paige said this morning that it would be the biggest since like 1884. 15 games since July 1, now that's news.
Eat your heart out Cubbies:)
358. Bledsoe hasn't been sacked. I don't think that's happened since 1884!
359. Maybe they could job-share. Wang was great tonight, but not quite as good on the Tampa turf. It occurs to me that he might not be the best choice for indoor games. All those grounders bounce a lot harder on the turf.
360. official Cleveland wins
361. randym,
This will never fly, but I like a 4 man.
Move Wright up if Moose can't go.
Bullpen problem solved!
362. I just think it's a fools errand to contunue with Proctor, Embree and Franklin.
363. Following Stormer's thinking, in a way it also makes sense to use Wang a la Mendoza in the past... use him as a long man, or use him to get a grounder if a DP is needed.
364. I just watched Bubba's walk off like 10 times. Man, this is why I love baseball.
365. Justin.
Si!
366. Storm Hard to argue with that PS pitching setup, assuming Moose is good to go...
Add F-Rod to the PS "never, ever, under no circumstance" list...
Tomorrow's games are huge: Small vs John Maine; Schilling (6-8) vs McClung (6-10)...
... 1/2 game lead entirely possible
367. So, which free agents do you think the Yanks will blow money on next year? Burnett, another injury prone starting pitcher is out there for the taking. I ass-u-me Matsui resigns with da yankees next year. vr, Xei
368. Here's my case for Wright to the pen.
