Haven't heard this one in ages! Somewhere at my elderly mother's house, there lies my all time favorite, The Dave Brubeck Quartet's "TIme Out", from it's original release, in 12" LP form. It, along with its feature single Take Five, would serve as the foundation of my musical tastes for most of my life and up to this day. They always told me I was more 5/4 beat and that tempo scarred me for life, in the best way! I'm almost positive there are other such treasures there. I must pop by soon and do some 'research!'
[2] Dave Brubeck "Time Out", is a classic and massively influential album on me! my pop has the vinyl; i had to pick up the gold cd deluxe version, after i wore out my cassette copy! 1960 and the first time odd meter was used in jazz or popular music. the whole album is pure genius and Joe Morello is godlike on the drums!
[0] Alex - you're kicking ass w/ this stuff!!! The Sidewinder = all-time classic! I could've picked up the 10" vinyl of this for only $20, at a record convention in Hempstead (Long Island), about 15 years ago. i'm still kicking myself for not buying it. not only is it very rare and i'll probably never see it again, but if i did find it, i'm sure i'd have to tack on another zero to the price! oh well...
besides the Sidewinder enjoying radio play on both AM & FM stations, Lee, the song and Blue Note, all got an even wider audience when the song was included in a car commercial during the 1965 World Series.
i have Morgan's 3cd Live at the Lighthouse set on deck for today! i've got all 25 of his cd's as a leader on Blue Note note and tons more as a sideguy.
Lee was an amazing guy both on and off the stage. a child progidy and taken waaaaaay young and in such a terrible fashion. his common law wife put a slug in him at NYC's Slugs; killed him at 33...
[4] Not a huge Brubeck fan, though of course "Time Out" swings like crazy.
You have 25 cds by Lee Morgan?? Nice! The only people I have so many cds or records by are Miles, Coltrane and the source of my blog name, Franco & Tout Puissant OK Jazz, kings of Congolese rumba. On my way to that many though for Keith Jarrett and Charles Lloyd. But still, I may need to do a fly-by to Atlanta and air-lift your collection to Japan..would it all even fit into an average Tokyo apartment though??
Just saw the score..not sure want to spend the to watch the bullpen blow it against the Royals..
All time classic! Back home now from some wonderful, crisp "Ichi-no-Kura" sake, it's a treat to hear this gem again for the first time in ages.

I'm a rookie to the site this season, but already loving it. The battery of Yankees baseball & mid-century jazz makes me feel like I'm home.
[3] welcome home, it's the BEST here!
