Some station (I think AMC) showed "Stripes" late one night a couple of weekends ago. It holds up really well even today. I've never looked at a spatula the same way again. :-)
I had forgotten that John Laroquette was in that movie too.
Right on re Varitek Mattpat11. I'll never understand how "Captain Facemask" not only got away with, but was glorified for, that cowardly shot at ARod. If a baseball catcher is going to take someone on, he takes his mask off. I think it at least interesting that that is the iconic image of this Red Sox era.
Don't laugh unless you've actually had a Hulka Burger!
My favorite lines from Stripes...
Harold Ramis as Russell Ziskey: Yes? You speak some English?
Man learning English: Son of bitch. Shit.
Class: [in unison] Son of bitch. Shit.
That phrase (Son of bitch. Shit.) scarred me for life. I can't tell you how many times I have found myself saying that during Yankee games over the years, among other times!
When Melky gets back, Swisher is going to be the weakest bat in the Yankees' order. (That is, until Girardi decides to pinch hit Angel Berroa for Matsui in the eighth inning and then let him swing away because the infield is playing in.)
Beckett and Varitek are such Irabus, trying to intimidate that young umpire. Glad the Captain got thrown out..
Stripes..I remember being about 12 and this being one of the first films I ever saw with a female shower scene..that along with the "Son of bitch. Shit" scene are forever imprinted on the brain!
There are few people in baseball I dislike more than Captain Facemask.
I'm not enjoying the Red Sox game today.
Pure genius. One of the great all-time scenes.

I wanna know in what world do Harold Ramis and Bill Murray pull off circa-1981 PJ Soles and Sean Young
then again if Bluto can get Mandy Pepperidge...
Why does one day off seem like a week?

: )
[6] He also refused to take off his facemask during the scuffle with the Angels this year.
[8] Varitek --> "La Lucha Libre!"
Posada returns tomorrow...

Wow! Congrats!
Hmm, Amelia Louise Corcoran. Good initials. This means the Yankees are bound to at least make it to the World Series, right?
