"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Har Har Hardy Har Har

The noise I make the most often when watching the Yankees is “T’uccch.” It is a sound of disgust. Last night in the second inning, with men on first and second and nobody out, Hideki Matsui hit a soft ground ball to third. I was on the couch watching the game; the wife was in the kitchen.

“Uch, double play,” I said when I first saw the ground ball.  “No, single play, wait, error, dude, run scores…

Pause.

Deadpan voice from the kitchen: “Is that your final answer?”

Few players are as good as Matsui at producing weak ground balls, usually by pulling outside pitches to 2B. Fortunately, he still has the ability to line a double to RF now and then, often in the late innings.

Groundzilla is still a great nickname.

"I call you killer cause you slay me..."

"And I'm calling Bellvue cause yer nuts!"

That was great. I think that was the episode in which they went to Bert Wedemeyer's house and Ralph and Ed were smitten with his coquettish wife.

I can just see Kevin Long working with Nick Swisher in the cage:
Long: Address the ball
Swisher: Hello .... ball

The Honeymooners still holds up after all these years. I did a google search to pinpoint one of my favorite bits of dialogue and actually wound up finding myself as a source (from BB back in February), which is kind of funny.

In any event, the quote comes from the episode in which Ralph has tickets to Game 5 of the 1954 World Series, but Alice’s sister is getting married on the same day. To solve the problem, he convinces the sister to elope, only to find out that the Giants had swept the WS earlier in the day and would not be playing Game 5*. The best line from the show is when Ralph prattles off a list of Giant players he wont get to see and Alice responds, “Who’s Willie Mays, Who's Alvin Dark, Who's Sal Maglie”, to which Ralph angrily replies: “What are you…a Dodger fan?”

*Aside from the obvious question of why Ralph wasn’t keeping track of the game, the more amusing inaccuracy was Game 5 would have been played in Cleveland.
