William, I would think it would allow. I've read at the Gelf series once before. You do a reading followed by a Q&A. I would have to think that all kinds of questions can be asked, especially with two of these books being on such hot topics. I almost feel for Scott Price, who is an elegant writer, the best pure writer of the bunch, because his book isn't controversial in the same league. However, it's such a poignant story, I'm sure he'll hold his own. I'm going to be at the game tonight, otherwise I would be there. I'm very curious to know Roberts' take, especially since her book tanked, and she was heavily criticized. Unfortunately, some of the criticism became a jock-culture vs. femnist outsider (Jason Whitlock stopped just short of calling her a crazy militant dyke) debate which obscured the legit criticisms of the book.

[6] Christian Red is a solid reporter also. O'Keeffe picked up where T.J. Quinn left off at the Daily News. That's one area where the News has the Post smoked. ... Roberts better be prepared to get killed on the questioning. What she endured on the press junket was hard enough. I'm all for protecting sources, but from the excerpts I read, the allegations of the pitch tipping, etc., are largely unsubstantiated. She'll have to answer for that for the rest of her career.

[5] Great point on Price...it is a shame that the event has surrounded him by that lineup. Also, now that I think about it, going there to question Roberts would be a waste of time. She has already been discredited. The better reception for her would be if no one asked any questions at all.

Incidentally, the Price book is one that I've added to a growing list of recent baseball books that I want to read.

[6] I am not sure about that. She parlayed her hatchett job in the Duke case into a nice gig at SI, so something tells me her only regret is the book didn't sell.

Not sure what DUMBO is, but seems like a perfect place for Selena Roberts to speak. Somebody follow her when she leaves the event and publish details in the morning of everything she does. Thanks.

My brother shared an art studio in Dumbo in mid to late 90s. It had a real old timey urban charm about it. Not even a bodega in the neighborhood. Now, the studios have turned into million-dollar lofts. Last time I was there I saw a dude walking his pet pig. Now you know you are either in a very poor or VERY rich neighborhood when you see a dude walking a pet pig.

I was actually going back and forth between reading the Pearlman book on Clemens and the i-Team one, settled on the Pearlman one only because I didn't really wanna spend 400+ pages on Rocket's needle habits. The Pearlman book at least has interesting non-steroid related material in it.

The Price book sounds good but just so damn depressing.

[13] Brooklyn is steeped in swine tradition. The borough featured a thriving pig trade in days of yore. Some of that history can be seen in some Street names. For example, Varkens Hook Road is derived from the Dutch word for Pig, or so I am told.

Somewhere, Jim Dean ought to be smiling at all these quality young catchers the Yanks keep snagging.

I've long wished for a pet pig. I'm not rich though and I don't live in DUMBO (though I used work to there and witnessed the most blitkrieg gentrification I've ever seen, even beating out the tidal wave of restaurant openings that washed me out of Fifth ave/Carroll St. Truly horrifying/impressive.)
