It was on this day in 1948 that J.D. Salinger’s first story was published in the New Yorker. A Perfect Day for Bananafish remains Salinger’s most famous single story, and the introduction to the Glass Family.

There was a millinery on Madison Ave. called Suzanne's for many years.
What a disturbing story. All the characters were so oddly disconnected even in conversation. It played into Salinger's pathology. I suppose Holden Caufield (sp) was similarly absent or detached. Yet, he was easy to related to.
Like A Perfect Day for Bananfish, no one in Franny and Zooey was particularly likable. Perhaps they were all parts of Salinger's psyche.
