I think there's at least a much a 'rule' of the game that kids don't diss veterans like that, that it is inherent disrespect and when a teammate's disrespected WHILE YOUR NAME IS INVOKED in contrast, a team captain ought to have something to say. Even if silence is your style, there are tasks that come with being a captain (or else you decline the job). One of them is to step in and say, 'I'm not impressed,' or some such, when a rookie mouths off. You don't have to go fire and brimstone, but once Braden brought Jeter in (and it is an old story, old wound) he put the captain in play.

But what interests me is this: IS there an unwritten rule that the pitcher 'owns' the real estate near the mound? Is it such a big deal? So that you throw gloves in the dugout, and go medieval on an senior player? Anyone read anything on this?
