Yeah, the movie is dated–it’s so Seventies–but hey, it’s Hackman, man. Most certainly worth watching.

I love this movie. I don't find it dated - all movies reflect and refract the times in which they are made, but Penn's technique is solid and not showy. Hackman's performance is one of his very best and Jennifer Warren is damned good as well.
One of the most underrated films of the 1970s.

Saw this for the first time a couple of months ago. Hackman *is* very good in it and generally I found it worth my time , though I'd say I found it became more and more far-fetched as it played out ...
[5] I don't think the plot is all that important in and of itself - what matters most is how Harry Moseby deals with the mystery and his inability to figure it out in time to have any real effect. It's definitely 70s genre revisionism. It's a movie about private eye movies as much as its a private eye movie...if you can follow me.
